This is a fantastic platformer, with a great deal of diversity in terms of level design. Every platforming level also features easy-to-learn combat. Transformations allow for combat variety as well, or you can challenge yourself by ignoring that aspect of the game. The setting is incredibly vibrant and colorful, taking place in and inspiration from, most Japanese prefectures. Collectibles include fun tidbits of trivia; cultural, historical, and contemporary, which anybody who is interested in Japan would likely gain from. Breaking up the large platforming levels, there are a handful of racing and shooting levels. Of course, there are also boss fights which further challenge you. Some boss fights are standardized where you play as Bakeru but others are giant robot fights which take inspiration from Tokusatsu films and while they're a little different, the game is forgiving enough to where it's easy to adapt to those new types of combat encounters. When it comes to drawbacks, I noticed that the hitboxes can occasionally be hit or miss but 99% of the time the game played perfectly fine. My biggest issue, and this is absolutely a "me" thing, is that there was only 1 level that takes place in Hokkaido and it technically isn't even technically set in Hokkaido. That's very much a "me" thing though; popular cities are better represented so fans of Osaka, Tokyo, Kumamoto, Nara, etc will almost certainly like how they're represented. If you're interested in learning the Japanese language,; every instance of dialog, and ever menu, utilize furigana which makes reading Japanese accessible to Japanese language readers at just about any level. The game has very little voice acting, which may be a drawback, but there isn't so much reading that I ever felt overwhelmed. I can't recommend this game highly enough, this easily could have been my year of 2024 if I had played it on release.

Nota 9/10.
Just the type of fun I experienced as a kid playing goemon :)
I got this game because the studio behind it is the same one behind Mystical Ninja and I wanted to support their work. The first few minutes into the game kind of made me regret I got it but I powered through the first 6 levels (which were incredibly easy and almost braindead) and I'd say that's around the time the game starts growing on you. The resemblance between Goemon and Bakeru is uncany and the similarities pour into the game itself. I think I must be a little under half-way through but there's plenty of collectables in order to 100% this game. I don't think we will ever get a Goemon game for Steam in the western world (even though there is a release for Steam in Japan) but I think this game scratches that same itch.
I just got done getting all achievements. What a great and fun game this is. At first it might just look like a casual 3D action platformer, but it actually brings many more ideas into the mix, adding other systems and ways of playing into it. Artistically its beautiful, rich in personality - influenced, obviously, by japanese culture. Very polished, very fun, definitely an awesome pick if you like action 3D platformers, and a must grab if you catch it during a discount.
A little colourful adventure across Japan! Hit and smash, jump and dash, the old simple tune. Yeah, sometimes that's all you need. You're not gonna face a challenge, but you'll explore fun and playful stages filled with tiny enemies, coins and hideen treasures. It's the 3D Mario formula, not too ambitious but stylish and very well executed. For relaxing times.
