IGF FINALIST 2013 BAFTA WINNER 2012 TIGA AWARD FINALIST 2012 1. Build Hotel. 2. Make Music. 3. Stop Tadstock. An insane hybrid of a tower defense game and a procedural music toy with tons of bullets (and healthy number of Wu-Tang references and credit crunch satire). The hit game for iOS now available on Windows and Mac!

I picked up Bad Hotel intrigued by the concept of a tower defense game that doubles as a music generator, but the reality doesn't live up to the trailer at all — what sounds like haunting, atmospheric music in the promotional material turns into a cacophony of beeps and buzzes once you're actually building rooms. The pace is relentlessly hectic with almost no breathing room between waves, and the difficulty spikes so wildly between levels that success feels more like luck than strategy. The money generation is painfully slow while enemies tear through your rooms almost instantly, and the limited room selection per level strips away any real creative freedom. It's clearly a mobile port that never got the PC treatment it needed, and at $5 there are far better tower defense games on Steam that will actually respect your time.
Were the awards simply because the game was such a strange experience they felt they had to give them something? I mean, I'm sure there area a handful of people who actually really like this game... But me? No, not really. It's baffling.
Its a good idea gone wrong. Its hard in a way that's confusing. Its fun when you are building and its going well, then all of a sudden you have no chance in hell to do anything and your dead in seconds. The dev does very little to explain how any weapon or structure works. Nothing is explained at all. I would rather the dev put time into explaining anything at all rather then the level "narrative". Its not much of a story in any case, just type up what the structures do and how they "should" be used. Its mostly a bad game. But there is so much potential here.
I have hesitated to play this game based on the negative reviews. I'm here to say that this is a very well thought out game. What I like most about it is the variation on rhythm and music based on the units you play. Additionally, the element of being aware of rhythm to complete the game came as a surprise that I enjoyed. you can see that the game only took me 3.8 hours to complete so keep that in mind, but I think the price reflects that. If you've been hesitant because of the review, don't be, try it out, and if you are not a fan, get a steam refund. This one is definitely worth checking out.
Had fun playing some years ago. Encountered a bug, contacted the devs and they solved my problem. Thanks!
