Interesting survival horror game. It reminds me of why I like horror RPG Maker games.
Decent little game for the price. I found the puzzles interesting, but I was able to go to the Old Hall section BEFORE the Greenhouse Section. This made the game more than a bit confusing. Especially since her dialog at certain parts was commenting on what happened in the Old Hall section, but then a few minutes later was speaking as if it never happened. There is a normal and nightmare difficulty setting, and apparently the nightmare difficulty has a different ending. [strike]Once achievements unlock I'll play again and see if that's true.[/strike] With the changes the developer has made and the price point I'm changing my tentative buy to a solid one. The game is worth the cost.
As a fan of both Indie Games and Lovecraft I highly recommend this game! It blends Japanese art style with horror elements and an atmosphere straight out of Lovecrafts books. Graphics are ok (made with RPG maker I believe), sound is really good and the controls are decent. A better presentation (better menu, artwork logo etc.) would be a great upgrade to this excellent game!

Short horror game in which the only weapons you have is your ability to run and staying away from monsters. You take the role of Ayumi, a young girl living on a space station. There is very little information regarding the game's environment or the station's mission. When you start the game in the cafeteria, most individuals chat about everyday issues and problems. You don't have much time to find out more anyhow because the station goes dark a few minutes into the game. Your task is to figure out what is going on. Right away, you see blood splatters and strange creatures. The light/darkness concept helps to create a surprisingly good atmosphere. Except for the occasional flickering light, the only consistent source of light comes from you. However, while you can see everything in a big room, dark vents may only allow you to see one step ahead. The light also does not go around corners, so you may encounter some surprises. Despite its appearance as an old-school RPG, this is actually an adventure/survival game. You will not need to deal with any equipment, stuff, or leveling up. All you can do is run around and interact with items. You are still urged to interact with everything, including seemingly insignificant objects. Almost everything will prompt Ayumi to make a comment. One intriguing feature is that certain problems can be handled in multiple ways. For example, a keycard can be purchased with credits, found in a creature-infested bathroom, or traded with a friendly robot. Although these instances are rare, having a choice is still nice. There are still containers to open, but all you'll find are credits. This is essential for making things a little easier. Some rooms will have monsters roaming around that you can simply avoid by staying away from them. They will approach you, but their movement is slow, and you have the option to run. If a room contains a sentry robot, you can kill all creatures with credits. It is expensive, so you may want to keep it for challenging rooms. However, occasionally you'll have little choice but to evade enemies or run by them when they're not looking. You are also pursued by the game's big monster, which will appear in scripted situations and force you to flee or hide before the time runs out. You can save is special rooms that are scattered around so you won’t waste a lot of time if you get killed. The game takes around two hours to beat. However, both of the two difficulties you pick at the start allow access to a couple of unique locations.
Ayumi: Enhanced Edition is a great little game. I purchased this in January shortly after the 2.55 update, and was pleasantly surprised at how well this title is put together. The game makes heavy use of pre-made assets, but it does so in a way that builds an atmosphere of horror and suspence. The scares are spaced out in such a way that the game builds up a sense of dread, and then does something shocking, which made me jump more than a couple of times. As far as content, there's a lot of game here. You can finish this title in about an hour or so, but there's so many little things to find, as well as alternate endings. The game's story is interesting, and is sprinkled with bits of Lovecraftian mythos, which really helps to set the stage. This product is well worth the asking price, and the creator Lord Rutsah has put a lot of love into this title, and it shows. TL;DR: Crazy space Cthulhu horror game with Yellow Mythos, and lots of scares! Buy it!
A nice little RPGmaker horror game. A bit on the easy side (even played on Nightmare difficulty). Excels in SFX usage, writing, setting, and the main character's comments on everything you interact with. Though would have liked Ayumi's actions to have had more of an impact to the story... And more dangerous obstacles on Nightmare that challenge me to survive. (I was able to cheese or sprint my way most of the time.) Quite forgiving. That said, I think this makes a worthy addition to rpgmaker horror. Can't get enough! And not many cheap deaths and scares. Also, there seems to be talk of future updates with enhanced graphics, some voicing and such. I'm looking forward to revisiting then!
A good little RPGmaker horror game; fairly short and not exactly scary, but has a fun and engaging atmosphere to explore. I definitely thought the music and commentary from the protagonist brought the experience from just good to actively fun. I recommend it if you got a few bucks to spare for a 1-3hr underrated game.
Ayumi is a pretty good horror game at a nice price. I've loved rpgmaker horror games for several years now. With a crappy laptop that couldn't cope with most games, they were the only games I could play without giving my laptop a heart attack. I won't say Ayumi is up there with The Witch's House and Ib, but it's a decent effort. I'm a sucker for spaceship horror, and the atmosphere to be found in Ayumi's eerie deserted spaceship did not disappoint me. Although it claims inspiration from Lovecraft and The King in Yellow, I found more in common with Dead Space (the dev is seemingly aware of this - peppering the game with references). The story doesn't suffer from the comparison however. Ayumi doesn't go out of its way to explain what is happening, putting you more in the shoes of the protagonist as she explores. In the protagonist I found someone I could sympathise with, particularly as I started to suspect just what had happened. There is lots to explore and lots of secrets to uncover. The game is relatively short, and even shorter if you just go for the ending. There were a few things I disliked - the enemies who kill you instantly when you walk into them. Granted, they are easy to avoid, but in the dark I found myself wandering into bugs more often than I care to admit. The credits system helps here, as you can use them to activate security mechs which clear the area for you. As far as I can tell there are no original assets, everything is from rpgmaker. But the creativity present in the game makes up for it in my opinion. There is no menu, or inventory screen. The only way to quit the game, besides closing manually, is in the save rooms and there's no way to see what items you have. The latter annoyed me more, as I couldn't see which keys I had. There's also no map, which didn't really bother me but was kind of annoying at certain points. All in all, I enjoyed Ayumi - I'm sure I'll go back to it at some point to see if there are other endings, and to try and pick up the other achievements.
If you like horror and rpgmaker this is your cup of tea. Also, while the orginal game is still here, they did clean up alot of the chase and puzzles so it overall is a much smoother experience (and doesn't detract from the atmosphere).
