so this vn has everything you could want in one but is it that hard not to include the normal esc function on normal vn? if you want to get to other screens you have to jump through hoops to get to it. would i change it if they were to add it? yes. i feel like it's crucial to have when the novel is offering numerous routes, cg, options, save/load, credits, artwork, music as choices that you can pick from if esc was there.

Ayakashigami is a supernatural visual novel developed and published by Kurenaibook that embraces classic Japanese folklore and presents it through an intimate, story-driven experience. Set in a quiet rural town filled with hidden spirits and lingering mysteries, the game follows Shinboku, an unusual protagonist tasked with investigating the presence of ayakashi. From the outset, the game establishes a reflective and occasionally eerie tone, drawing players into a summer adventure that feels equally inspired by traditional ghost stories and slice-of-life anime. Rather than focusing on complex gameplay systems, Ayakashigami commits itself entirely to narrative immersion, making it an experience best suited for players who appreciate reading and atmosphere above all else. One of the game's most appealing qualities is the way it blends supernatural elements with personal storytelling. As Shinboku encounters various individuals connected to the town's strange happenings, the narrative explores themes of identity, companionship, and the unseen forces that influence people's lives. The story unfolds gradually, allowing each encounter to add another layer to the central mystery. The game's descriptions highlight elements of friendship, romance, and light horror, and these components are woven together effectively. There are moments of tension when confronting the unknown, but they are often balanced by heartfelt interactions that give the cast a sense of humanity. The rural setting plays a major role in establishing Ayakashigami's identity. Quiet streets, secluded shrines, and the ever-present feeling that something supernatural may be watching from beyond the trees create a memorable atmosphere. Kurenaibook clearly draws inspiration from Japanese mythology, and fans of folklore will appreciate the numerous references to traditional spirits and legends. The game does not attempt to overwhelm players with extensive lore dumps, instead revealing information naturally as the story progresses. This measured approach helps maintain a sense of mystery throughout the experience. Visually, Ayakashigami remains modest but effective. The character illustrations possess a distinctive charm that complements the tone of the narrative, while the backgrounds successfully convey the tranquility of the countryside. Its soundtrack deserves recognition as well, featuring music that reinforces both the melancholic and mysterious moments of the story. Although the production values are limited compared to larger visual novel releases, the presentation feels cohesive and sincere, which ultimately benefits the game's emotional impact. That said, Ayakashigami is not without limitations. Its completely linear structure means there is little incentive to revisit the game once the story has been completed. Players seeking multiple routes, meaningful choices, or gameplay mechanics beyond reading may find the experience somewhat restrictive. Additionally, the pacing occasionally slows during exposition-heavy segments, and some aspects of the localization can feel rough around the edges. These shortcomings are noticeable, but they rarely overshadow the strengths of the narrative itself. Ultimately, Ayakashigami succeeds as a small but heartfelt visual novel that understands its audience. It delivers a compelling blend of folklore, mystery, and character-driven storytelling without overextending its ambitions. While it may not become an essential title for every visual novel enthusiast, it stands as a worthwhile experience for those interested in Japanese supernatural tales and slower, more contemplative narratives. Its greatest achievement is creating a world that feels quietly alive, leaving players with the same bittersweet feeling that often accompanies the end of a memorable summer. Rating: 7/10
Read this thing several years ago so it may have changed perhaps not anyway it is visual novel or book there is some nudity fan service type stuff through the end , interesting concept but almost zero sex or sexuality in it the main character is trans gendered which makes sense as i did a bit of searching and apparently some Japanese temples have sacred trees in their temple called Ayakashigami i forgot where i found it but this makes sense as most trees like most plants are both male and female for example they produce both pollen and seeds its interesting how the Japanese anime culture are able to anthropomorphize almost anything. The main character is a trans gendered temple guardian tasked with finding evil spirits in the city located near the temple . This is basically an excuse for him to have social interactions with some girls who are half human. a fun little escapist novel but not much else wait for a sale. i will put in a yes vote but as said wait for a sale almost zero sexual content. I am 32 years old. My ex-wife and I have a daughter together, and we adopted our son together. Both are now 4 years old. When we were going through our separation, I felt lost and unhappy. I was self-destructive. One day, I was so angry with everything spiraling out of control that I punched a concrete wall in a moment of overwhelming emotion. This resulted in breaking my fifth metacarpal in my right hand—the hand I worked with, played games with, and used to carry my children to bed—the hand I desperately needed to ensure I could continue providing. Upon learning the severity of the self-inflicted damage, I became almost suicidal. Keep in mind that just a few months before this, I was the happiest man, with no history of depression or anxiety. I had never experienced anger outbursts, nor was I the type to break down and cry, but I was in a tough situation that truly prevented me from seeing the light on the other side. With nothing better to do, I looked for a game I could play WITH ONE HAND while recovering. Somehow, I stumbled upon this game and read some of the comments. I decided it was worth a try... I must admit I didn't beat the game, nor did I play as much as some of you. In fact, I may have played this game for only a day or two. That being said, after doing so, I had a new joy and hope for life. I managed to leave behind the pain and suffering that had been thrust upon me. I could experience the joy and happiness of other people. I relaxed for 5 ♥♥♥♥ minutes listening to this music, long enough to realize that I would be okay. After realizing this, I turned off the game and went back to work. My hand hurt a lot, but I was motivated. I stopped feeling so sorry for myself and became the father I needed to be at that moment, not the weak boy I was behaving like. Today, I am close friends with the mother of my children. We don't fight, argue, or say hurtful things to each other. We are parents and friends. Now I have 3 children. My third child is, wait, ALSO 4 YEARS OLD. The woman I am with was going through a very similar situation at the time of my separation, and we just unexpectedly stumbled into each other's lives. We have been dating for a year and are very happy together. Moral of the story: you never know what life has in store for you, and if I had given up when all odds were against me, I wouldn't be where I am today. This silly little game helped me realize that. Thank you.
