Axiom

Axiom is an intriguing and exciting game from fresh game developers. Whilst the running can be clunky, it genuniely is a whole lot of fun that you can sink hours into and perfect speedrunning. The story was an engaging viewing and really set the tone for the creative environments throughout, often putting me in mind of classic sci-fi movies like Tron or The Matrix. Super excited to see what is in store next for the team. I will be certain to play it regardless.

Give it a go if you like parkour games. It's fairly short, has three(ish) different levels and will take you under an hour even when you're not rushing. While the controls are somewhat janky and floaty (as to be expected from an indie game), they work reasonably well and get you into the flow ... except the wallruns. Hoooh boy. They seem to highly depend on the camera's angle, and a few degrees can make or break the run. For me, there's one bottleneck in the game that consist of floating walls where you have to chain multiple wallruns. Fortunately, respawning only takes a second and the respawn points are pretty fair. There are a few setpieces where you can softlock yourself tho, and if you have to reload the game, you'll start from the beginning. The game has a really striking artstyle, cool to look at, it's just sometimes hard to tell where to go. The writing and voice acting does a good job to imply the wider setting and backstory. It's a cool setup for a pulpy cyberpunk story - and that's it, the game literally ends after the setup. I expected more after all that backstory and worldbuilding, which speaks for those aspects I guess.
