Axial (disc 1) is a game well worth playing. NOTE: My actual gameplay time, as of this writing is 26 hours. Offline Steam doesn't keep track of time, though thankfully achievements still are. The carefully crafted artstyle, the great soundtrack, interesting story, and very well-designed and fun combat system all come together to make this game a real gem. And as a fellow RM dev, it's also a nearly perfect example of what can be done with RPGMaker. (Without any of the typical problems novices using that engine have) now to briefly mention my cons with the game: Profanity (including an F bomb); getting stuck on a conveyour belt puzzle (needed to proceed in the story); and --a brainfart moment that I consider to be partly my own fault of-- not being able to find the way to an in-game location known as the Cliffs of Fate. (For people who get the same problem, The path is next to a Yggdrasil tree) But regardless of all that; I loved it, and the dev is a super friendly guy who will totally help out if you're struggling with a section or encounter a bug.

It's a cute little throwback RPG in a Game Boy style. You can do a lot worse for free!
Piksel grafiklere sahip diyaloglar üzerinden oyunun ilerlediği bir rol yapma oyunu oynanabilir.
Eşsiz piksel sanatı ve chiptune müziği içeren saldırılar için parti sinerjisini içeren modern, sıra tabanlı deste oluşturma JRPG!
I can very much say this is a great experience and well worth the time investment. The story is a bit of a slow burn for me, it didn't grasp me immediately but it did get me about 2-3 hours in. It took me a while to get used to Sai's dialog it made me roll my eyes at first but after a while it just became normal and the game does well to build a setting as an npc will let you know it's a dialect from a different area in the world. There's a lot of really funny bits and the game wears it's inspirations on it's sleeve proudly with some subtle and not so subtle references to other franchises. Going from playing this devs latest game at the time of writing the review Silver Daze you can see a lot of this games DNA in it. I finished the game but I don't have much more to say about it, I will likely think about this game for a while. The dev is also super cool be sure to check out his other games Axial Disc 2 and Silver Daze!
A very unique JRPG experience in regards to gameplay and story. The graphics are classic retro, but a great deal of effort was put in to make the game's world look amazing. The gameplay revolves around collecting a wide variety of combat skills and figuring out the best synergies with them, as there are over a hundred skills to potentially acquire and each character can bring a maximum of eight skills each into battle. Figure out the synergies and have Oli absorb and learn the ideal abilities (Energy Ball + Energy Ball + Riot Blade is a powerful delete option against bosses) and you can get quite creative with battle strategies. So much so that you may end up spending more time shuffling skills around than fighting the bosses themselves. The story has a very simplistic formula with traditional friendship beats revolving around a girl who wants to understand her destiny involving a legendary sword, an artificial half-human hybrid who wants to learn about her origins due to amnesia, and a self proclaimed [C]oward who broke the hybrid out of captivity just to rebel against his stern, controlling father. Despite the simplistic, the characters all have vibrant personalities and dispositions. Oli is a capable fighter and a headstrong leader who would push through any sort of hardship to uncover the truth, Amara is a reluctant, but very compassionate heroine who wants her friends to be safe, and Sai's struggles to be the brave champion that he could never be in real life... are relatable, especially given his insistence of maintain a persona though formal, Shakespearean dialogue. There are a lot of interesting members among the supporting cast as well, such as Oli's fiercely protective father and Chip, Sai's uncaring and hedonistic adopted brother. The game's systems might seem complicated at first, but gameplay features and difficulty scaling lead to a smooth experience for new players.
Playing on Spinel Difficulty is the best way to review this game. Granted, you will die a bazillion times if you don't pay attention and try to brute force fights like an idiot, but you will also be able to appreciate everything from the nifty battle system to the quirky characters to the nostalgic retro graphics 1000 times more. The game's pacing is unique, from the second you start the game, you do not get a tonne of story exposition dumped on your head, rather a very relaxed but consistent development that is tied in to exploration and lore-delving. Talk to NPCs, check everything in sight (for some hilarious dialogue at times), and try to enjoy the entire experience rather than speedrun it like an ape by looking up the most op skill combos to try and oneshot enemies. Grinding is highly recommended, it won't be enjoyable for many, but the sheer pleasure in was a big plus point for me. Axial combines the nostalgic retro rpg experience with a ensemble cast of characters that really grow on you as the story progresses. My personal favourite from this game is Amara. Play the game at a relaxed pace, figure out the Eaters' patterns and skills, but be warned that Spinel is extremely punishing and that is precisely what I loved. The challenge throughout the game is a constant reminder to stay vigilant for everything on the screen, and that does make you appreciate how the devs of this game put so much love and effort into bringing it to life. My recommendation -> Definitely a must play, even if you drop it after. But do play it once from start to finish, you will not be disappointed.
