I played this through twice today, once on normal difficulty using the sword only and no sub weapons for an extra challenge, and then a full playthrough using all sub weapons on expert mode and wow, I had a great time. There's a lot to love here for those that enjoy classic styled, retro platformers: The graphics and sprite designs are very charming and fit the world perfectly. Three difficulties means there's something for everyone skill level wise. The controls are fluid and easy to work with when attempting the difficult platforming sections. Hitboxes are accurate and make sense in the heat of combat. Enemy placement and their attacks is a challenge to overcome, especially on expert mode. Expert mode adds new enemies and even changes up the stage designs/boss abilities. Has a built in clock in speedrunning mode. Sub weapons are all useful at different moments/situations. Balance is great. There's difficulty but it's fair and gives you a chance to improve and learn. Would highly recommend this one, lots of fun to be had!
Six awesome levels. Five special weapons. Four lives to live. Three years in the making. Two itchy buttcheeks. And one soulful protagonist: John Danklius III. Made by two brothers in the vein of Castlevania and other retro games. Can't recommend enough, S Tier ultimate platformer. Oozing with love and attention to detail. Beat it and learn something about yourself.
Nice little tough pixel game, with a built in speed running mode. Looking to set the world record in this game, to hopefully impress my children, who no longer even look at me, since I failed to beat mario.
Challenging game with colorful graphics that throw-back to the Atari and Intellivision. Great music and intense action. Reminiscent of retro classics like Castlevania, Mega Man, and Ghosts & Goblins. Easily worth the price.
I consider this like a Dos Version of Castlevania 1, but it also has like Pseudo 3D graphics which I do admire a lot. The difficulty challenge is there, but it's not on the same level as the original Castlevania. This is a very nice Homage to Castlevania, and I do appreciate the time and effort that was put into this game. There is a speedrunning mode, and this game does feel very speedrunner friendly. For the price, it is very reasonable. It's a nice little game, that you can replay over and over.
If you're a fan of the Castlevania games, this game is for you. This game is a love letter to the Castlevania series, and the guys who made them know what CV games are about.
good times all around
I think my game is defective. I keep dying. I'm also bad so that is probably it. haha The game is challenging and it should be. The old school knock back sucks but good at the same time. That's how games were "back in the day." I don't have much experience playing Castlevania but this game has that feel. Retro look with 2.5D graphics and classic NES game music that is catchy. If you want a new retro game you have to pick this up.
A charming beautiful work of love that invokes a sense of nostalgic rage and accomplishment. Filled with all the wonderful tropes (including ye olde ice physics) you would expect in a retro platformer.
Tough but fair
