Aven Colony is a straightforward, old-school colony builder where you establish your base, expand it, and tackle the challenges the game throws your way. While it may not have the deep complexity of some newer titles, its missions and varied objectives keep things engaging and make it easy to come back for more. I picked it up on sale for $2.99, and at that price, it’s hard to beat what it delivers.

Decent challenge just on normal mode, a good bit of fun for after work.
I'm a terrible person? I'm not the one who decided euthanasia was an appropriate way to deal with homelessness! Seriously, though, I found Aven Colony to be a decent city builder with a mild dystopian vibe. The interface and gameplay were crisp and easy to understand without being overly simplistic. My largest complaints were 1) apparently they can send a colony ship to another star system, but a little landscaping is too big of an ask, and 2) chatting with a committee full of Karens over Slack is far from the most engaging way to present a narrative. All in all, it was fine, but if you're looking for a good city builder there are better options.
