I play on a gamepad, and I'm very much surprised how smooth and reasonable steering controls are made. A generous gift to a casual player! A bit glitchy menus, but that seems easy to fix. Looking forward to upcoming career mode!
this game is super fun especially with the single races and championship modes. damage model is also very good.
This game is really good. I got this mostly just for VR and it delivers. Extremely clean/clear mirrors, great graphics (tweaked with nvidia control panel and looks amazing with most in game settings on medium. You can fix the lack of antialiasing in there and it works great) Racing feels solid. I find this harder than ACC. I was playing ACC right before this and this was slightly different in terms of car handling, but close enough, so I got uised to it after a few hours. I'm still getting last in most races, but man its so fun in VR with a wheel and pedals. Runs clean at 170 fps in desktop and at least 72 fps in vr. (Didn't monitor the fps in vr, but it was super clean)
Die beste Singleplayer Sim.
30 minutes and I absolutely hate it. The UI in this game is probably the worst thing I have ever seen in my life. No (good) option for starting or running the game on the second monitor. Trying to use a controller and a wheel at the same time is something every other racing game has sorted, but in this game it's a complete nightmare. 6 years in early access and still feels completely unfinished. Don't be fooled by the "Very Positive" ratings, but instead be alarmed by the fact that it only has 5500 English reviews 6 years after entering early access.
AMS2 is my go to "sim" for when I just want to hop into my rig and blast around a quick 15 minutes race and then hop off. I'll do a simple pro's and con's below followed by a little summary Pro's - Competitive and for the most part sensible AI - Great variety of cars and tracks - Immense customisation options for race scenarios (multi-class, race lengths, mandatory pitstops, scheduled cautions etc) - Visually, looks stunning (time of year effects the foliage around the circuit) - Super easy to setup a quick race with friends, along with adding AI who perform surprisingly well on a server - Regular updates from the devs - The formula cars are immense, from the classic 60s through to modern and CART/INDY - Mods (to a certain extent, tends to be ported from PCARS2 from what I can tell) Con's - Online is pretty dead save for a few servers for public racing (as always, SPA and MONZA in GT3s seems to be the go to - Initial FFB on wheel needs fine tuning, I personally had to get a custom FFB file which improved my experience massively - UI is a bit outdated compared to what is available on other sims - No career mode Summary I didn't know where to put the handling, so I'll try and sum it up here. I would describe it as "simcade" but leaning more towards sim. Closer to your traditional sims than say Gran Turismo. Like above in the FFB con, it takes some customising to get the feeling right. It may not be the most realistic handling, but it is very raw and immersive in terms of how much you have to work the wheel sometimes in certain cars. I would recommend AMS2 to anyone who loves racing a wide variety of cars, with an easy to hop in and race setup. Within 5 minutes you can be ragging around JCW Minis at Brands Hatch or running 3 wide at Daytona in the NASCARs. There is also an updated demo now available for those who wish to give it a try first before buying. It is on sale fairly regularly along with the DLC's. Disclaimer There is A LOT of DLC, I was fortunate enough to get the game and DLC's in a sale for relatively cheap.
The good: well optimised, graphics are decent, game sounds good, albeit a bit rough/distorted due to compression. I like the variety. AI seems to be decent, though I've honestly not played much. They still hit you if you're in their preferred racing line, but that happens with most sim racing game AI, so I can't hold it against them TOO much. The bad: Nothing notable to speak of in the single player department, offering races against AI and setting car class presets and having themed collections of races (a series of races), and that's about it. There's a bit too much of a focus on the Brazillian tracks in the championship templates. Very unstable. Crashes on load with some wheels (I tried making a virtual wheel to get around the button issues mentioned below) as well as in menus. It also gets stuck on alt tab if you use Full Screen mode. It happened with both an AMD RX 9070 and an RTX 2080 Super. It's definitely a game issue. The game stops rendering and just gets stuck on whatever frame you were looking at, while the sound and game logic continues to run in the background. Can't bind all my buttons on my wheel as it only allows button indexes up to 32, so I can't bind my D-pad, shoulder buttons and other things. The worst part is the physics. Feels like driving on ice. You slide around corners like you're on ice skates. It just doesn't feel right, at least if you're looking for realism and something akin to other more realistic games in the sim racing space. It could be fun to stick with, but right now I'm not looking for a unique physics model. I'm looking for a realistic one, and this isn't that.
