Original concept, clean and straightforward.
It's a pretty decent idler. There isn't much depth to it, and it can be finished in a pretty short amount of time, thus it doesn't have good price-to-gametime ratio, especially for an idler, but it was still fun enough thanks to the unique enough concept, pleasant visuals (it is certainly one of the most fun idlers to watch), and fairly satisfying loop for the first couple hours that I do think it's a reasonable pick-up. As some other reviews said, if there was a rating for "It's Okay", I'd give that, but I'm leaning more towards Recommended. That said, there are better idlers out there, so if you haven't picked up many yet, just do that instead. If you have, this is a decent buy imo. I also appreciate the name being a reference to the 1992 space movie.
Fun Game to have open whilst playing something else or chatting with friends. Interested to see what it holds in the future!
Auto Snakes in Outer Space, developed and published by Old Atlas, is a minimalist idle game that embraces simplicity, automation, and steady progression within a playful sci-fi wrapper. At first glance, the concept sounds intentionally absurd: colorful snakes drifting through space, automatically collecting food to grow stronger and more efficient. Yet beneath that whimsical surface lies a surprisingly structured incremental experience that caters to players who enjoy gradual optimization and relaxed resource management loops. The core gameplay revolves around autonomous snakes that gather floating food items across a contained play area. Progression begins modestly, with a small number of snakes collecting resources at a slow pace. Over time, players invest accumulated food into upgrades that increase movement speed, carrying capacity, collection efficiency, and various passive bonuses. The game operates comfortably as a hands-off idle experience, allowing snakes to work without constant supervision. However, it also includes light interactivity: guiding the cursor near food items enhances attraction and collection speed, giving players the option to engage actively when desired. This dual design supports both passive and semi-active playstyles. Upgrades form the backbone of progression. As resources accumulate, new abilities unlock that automate additional functions or amplify income rates. These enhancements gradually accelerate the pace, creating the familiar exponential growth curve that defines incremental games. The system encourages reinvestment, experimentation, and periodic optimization. While the mechanics are straightforward, there is a satisfying rhythm in watching efficiency compound over time. The inclusion of a prestige mechanic further extends longevity, allowing players to reset progress in exchange for permanent multipliers that enhance future runs. This cyclical structure reinforces replayability without overcomplicating the formula. A notable aspect of Auto Snakes in Outer Space is its emphasis on cosmetic variety. With a large selection of unlockable snake skins, players can customize the visual identity of their colony as they progress. These skins are earned through in-game tasks and milestones rather than random chance, offering tangible goals beyond numerical growth. Although purely aesthetic, this collection system adds an extra layer of motivation, especially for completionists. The art style is bright and clean, featuring simple shapes and bold colors that make the interface easy to read even as activity increases. The presentation overall is minimalist but charming. The outer space theme functions more as a playful backdrop than a deeply developed setting, yet it gives the game personality. Ambient sound design is subtle, maintaining a calm atmosphere suitable for long idle sessions. There are small touches of humor scattered throughout, reinforcing the lighthearted tone. The game does not attempt narrative complexity or dramatic escalation; instead, it focuses on maintaining a steady and relaxing feedback loop. Despite its strengths, the experience may feel limited for players seeking deep strategic systems. The upgrade paths, while functional, do not drastically alter gameplay style. Most improvements revolve around efficiency rather than introducing new mechanics. As a result, the long-term appeal largely depends on how much a player enjoys incremental growth for its own sake. Endless Mode extends the lifespan by removing progression caps, but the fundamental loop remains consistent throughout. Ultimately, Auto Snakes in Outer Space succeeds as a calm, low-pressure idle game that delivers exactly what its premise promises. It offers a clean interface, accessible progression systems, and a steady stream of upgrades that reward patience. While it does not push the boundaries of the incremental genre, it provides a pleasant and affordable entry for players who enjoy watching numbers rise and optimizing small systems over time. Its charm lies in its simplicity, making it a comfortable choice for those seeking a relaxed, space-themed idle diversion rather than an intricate management simulation. Rating: 6/10
Simplemente es un fondo de pantalla bonito, poco 'juego'.
Retro styled idler with chill vibes and rad music!
Fun and short indie game. I enjoyed it from start to finish. And the people saying the OST is god are darn right!
Fun game, but the endgame is quite stale and grindy.
I was surprised by the game, it's a good game to just chill with and let your mind relax.
