Audition Online

I've been a player of the game for about 8-9 years. (yes this game is that old(er) ) As I read a lot of the reviews below me, I've seen that many of the reviewers had come into the game with their mindset thinking that this was supposed to be DDR Online, or an OSU competitor. I can honestly tell you that this game is neither. Audition Online is a heavy rhythm based online dancing game with heavy social aspects. Originally made in Korea, the game has very heavy K-pop culture references (fashion mall/ K pop dance moves), and many Korean songs. If you are annoyed by pop, electronic, or music that is in a foreign language, you most likely will pass on the game. There are enough English songs to pass for an American server, but a vast majority of songs are in Korean. As said above, the Korean culture for the game is quite immense. The fashion mall (cash shop) is full of Korean Pop star references and clothing that would mostly make sense to the Kpop audience. The cash shop is completely optional. NOTHING in the cash shop will enhance your skills to the point of unfairness. There is a non-cash currency. (beats). These beats can be earned by playing with other players in the server. The selection of Beats items is quite small compared to the cash items, but there is enough to satisfy one's fashion sense to an extent. The Gameplay for Audition is very different from DDR or OSU online. This is something that many new players fail to understand when they write the game off as a DDR clone. Players are given a combination of arrow keys that correspond to the 4 directional keys on the keyboard or the numpad, and must press those keys within the 4/4 metronome displayed, and then hit the space key once the bar reaches the 4/4 on the metronome. The metronome's speed is determined by each songs BPM. Often new players assume that they are really button mashing, but every arrow key combination is attached to a certain dance move. The fact is that this is just ONE of Audition's many different game modes. Audition has roughly over 10 UNIQUE game modes, with about 15-20 different variations of certain game modes. Each mode has a different concept, a different way to play, and win. Some are team games, some are solo (story mode), and some are social modes (wedding, love party, club). I'd advise the DDR fans to start off with Beat Up mode which utilizes the players numpads using the keys (741/963) as the keys are tapped in direct relation to the rhythm, unlike "Normal Mode" where only key combinations are pressed followed by the space bar at each fourth beat. The game has a VERY steep learning curve. If you are prone to quitting easily, or not interested in taking the time to learn the different modes, I'd not recommend the game to you. The game is currently in need of new players and a revitalization in its community. However, if you'd like to try something different, make some new friends, and even improve your playing skills. This game is hanging on by a thread and as a player that has played off and on since the days of Nexon it has seen better days. During the Nexon days the game was very popular with many channels because of it being part of Nexon. I played RedBana Audition for a little over 3 years off and on and the amount of people playing has dwindled down every year. This can be for a lot of reasons but it's biggest complaint I always heard was the lack of updates or extremely slow updates and losing licensing of good songs because they lack money. The days of having fun with your FAM (in game guild) and having Rivalry's with other FAM's are long over. The best you can hope for is to get a small group of friends you can play with otherwise the game is pretty boring alone. The game was good for its time back in 07 but the game is very outdated now, it's not going to get any better. If you are looking for a Rhythm game to play there are better ones out there already like Mstar that are much more up to date not only with their character customization but songs as well. With the rate this game updates, it's many years behind it's origin server Korean Audition. What's the point of playing a Rhythm game with such a small and poor selection of songs. I definitely don't recommend this to any new players as the vast majority of players that play is out of Nostalgia and friends that still continue to play. Not only are their GM's corrupt and show favoritism to certain players in the community and ban those who they don't like, now they are even bribing players with in game money (Bana Cash) to give good reviews on here. As they know most players will be too lazy to do so or won't care as there no is reward involved. If this game was still good then why wouldn't the players happily support it without there being an in game reward involved? You can really tell in the reviews who did it just for the Bana Cash reward, who knows if anyone will even get to see this with the massive flood of Bribed Reviews on the page already. Then those who would have gave it a good review despite there being a reward or not. Just a few points, I don't want to list everything. Pros - Fun if you manage to get a group of friends to play with. - Pass the time being involved with the social network the game provides. - Talk to people from different parts of the world. - Various Rhythm modes from very easy to very hard - Guitar Mode (Guitar Hero on the keyboard? Seems legit.) - You can dress your character up in nice clothes Cons - A lot of drama - Corrupt GM's - Tournament's are dead or have hackers - Slow updates - Most of the community is rude (For a small player base that's disappointing.) - All the nice clothes cost real $$$ and not all are permanent. (Permanent clothes cost roughly $10 each piece.) I'm happy for the game that it managed to get on here but I think it's a bit too late. The game only continues to disappoint. You can compare it to something like MapleStory where they know the end is near for the game, they're just trying to milk as much money as they can from it before the game runs itself into the ground.

I've been playing Audition Online since 2007 when Nexon was the original owner of the game. The game was good for a while, but over the past 2-3 years it has gone downhill. They have gone through tons of Community Managers, as well as Game Masters, and some of the GM's were very bias. There are tons of bugs and glitches that have been around for years,and nothing is done about them. This version of this game is complete trash. Go play some other server, do not support Redbana. 10/10, would NOT recommend this game to anybody.

I didn't even have to play many matches before I remembered how much I hate this game. -The only positive reviews you'll find of this game are by people who are blinded by nostalgia and by people who are BEING BRIBED BY REDBANA TO LEAVE GOOD REVIEWS http://forums.redbana.com/forum/audition/audition-news/audition-events/3011567-june-2015-vote-up -No game should punish newbies this hard, It's not newbie friendly AT ALL. If your game expects you to be good right off the bat, it isn't a good game. -the fact that you have to enter the entire combo and THEN press enter is beyond stupid. -And even then if you don't enter the combo in .05 seconds you immediately fail -The graphics have aged like milk, -Barely anyone plays anymore (gee, i wonder why) and the people who do are total jerks -The "pay to look different for only a day to a month" unless you pay actual money is extremely dated and extremely cheap. Almost as bad as pay to play. -The GUI is god awful -It would be so much easier if it had controller compatibility, but it doesn't. Because of course it doesn't. 0/10. You're better off trying to find an arcade that still has a Dance Dance Revolution machine.

I've been playing this game for 600+ hours. I know it's not much but i still have something to say. To be honest, i found out about the bribed reviews like last week i think. I'm very dissapointed. The people who wrote positive reviews for in-game currency basically lied to everyone about how "great" this game is. I won't lie, i got sucked into the game right after i saw the video of it on Steam. I thought it would be fun. Well the first 2 weeks were awesome to be honest. I loved the game very much, but then it changed. As i've noticed, in some of the reviews, people are saying that the graphics are horrible, no settings, etc. Sure, the graphics aren't that great and a game having no settings is just retarded, but i don't look at the graphics and all that, i just look at the whole gameplay. Yet i am unsatisfied with some things in this game, so i'm going to write some of my Pros and Cons. Pros and Cons in my opinion: Pros: +The songs might be old, but i still love them and i wouldn't change them. I would just add some new ones. +There are a lot of modes to play, so you won't get bored so easily. (My fav is actually Guitar and Choreo 4 keys CC4) +There are a lot of friendly people in this game and you can talk to them. (Like i said, everything is my opinion) +You don't have to pay2win, which i find very annoying in any kind of games. +It's sort of an "online dating site" i guess, from my experience some people actually have long lasting online relationships. (I'm also in a online relationship atm, but that's not important) So i guess these are all the Pros i can think of in my opinion. Now for the Cons and oh boy, i have a lot of them in mind. Cons: -Bugs in this game are pretty terrible, especially in Club Dance and Beat Rush. -Crashes. I'm not saying they happen often, but it would be still nice to fix that problem. -The updates are ♥♥♥♥♥♥, since after each update, i've noticed that they don't do anything about the bugs in this game. -As far as i know, the GM's have IQ's of snails, since they banned my FAM for "hacking" because some guy reported it without any evidence of that crime at all. -A lot of drama. -Most of the stuff in this game costs real money, so if you want to look "pretty" and you want to stay that way, you have to pay up. -There are also retarded people. -The Events always require for you to pay for something, so ♥♥♥♥ that. -The Tournaments are dead, but they start at a very different time, so i can't really attend them. So yeah, like i said, these Pros and Cons are basically my thoughts about the game. True, i would be dissapointed if the game was shut down. And i have quite the history with this game. But if it does shut down, i'll just move on. Though i really want to say 1 thing to GM's of this game: Fix the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ bugs will ya? And try turning on your brains, since, as you can see, you're losing people and getting bad reviews. And bribing other players? That's just pathetic. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ pull yourself together.

TL;DR summary (and don't mind my english): - This game is skill based and items/clothes have no impact on the game play. You can jump in and be on equal footing with veteran players. - This game has it's merits with outdated graphics and missing settings (Ctrl + S for volume slider) - Available song list is fixed and new songs are added by the developer in upcoming patches. This version of Audition (there are different versions for different regions) has prominent artists like Diplo, Weeknd and Krewella to name some. - This games biggest strength revolves around the community. People tend to know each other and playing with friends while enjoying the music is just great. THIS GAME BECOMES SO MUCH BETTER IF YOU TALK AND MAKE NEW FRIENDS. You gotta socialize to fully enjoy this game. That's the main reason why i kept coming back to this game after a 8 year long break. Side note: I am playing osu! (or DDR) myself and both games are too different to be compared. The osu! and DDR related modes are just one of many game modes in Audition. =================================================================== Audition Online is an online dance battle game with a variety of gamemodes which are (somewhat) comparable to DDR (Beat Up), Guitar Hero (Guitar Mode) and Taiko (Space Pang) and it's own "normal" mode. In the normal mode, the main mode of this game, you need to hit the arrows on your keyboard according to the arrows on the screen and press Space/Ctrl when the beat ends. This requires a lot of skill i'd say - sense of rhythm by playing instruments can help a lot to get good at this mode. The songlist covers slow BPM (beats per minutes) and fast BPM songs. Slow songs are good to practice your muscle memory/reading as a beginner. You can't add own songs to the game, the developer adds new songs in future patches (i believe the reason is due to copyright/license issues). The music genre is K-Pop/Western charts with some prominent artists like Deorro, Chainsmokers, Krewella, Zeds Dead, Weeknd, Diplo and more. The game itself runs with V-Sync on(FPS caps at the refresh rate of your monitor, for most people 60FPS). There are ways to disable V-Sync as an AMD/ATI and Nvidia graphic cards owner (which i recommend, guides are available on the official Redbana forums). The graphics are outdated for it's time even though i don't mind/like the anime style. There are two currencies ingame, ingame (Beats) and real cash (Banacash). Even though clothes are purchaseable by Beats the majority of clothes are Banacash ones. Items or clothes have ZERO impact on the competitiveness of this game - it grants no advantage at all as it's purely cosmetic. Veterans with high levels do NOT have an advantage either besides being more experienced and skilled at the game. Theoretically you could hop into the game and beat veterans just by being more skilled. One thing i would like to point out is how much more fun this game becomes when you make new friends and interact with the community. You can become Couples, get married, join a Family and fight with them in FAM battles. The last time i played this game was about 8 years ago and i keep coming back. The game has it's merits (graphics are outdated, lack of settings) but if you love to listen to music, meet new people and become friends and thrive to become good at music-based games this game is definitely worth a try! Oh how the mighty have fallen. A Long time ago, Audition was THE Rythym MMO to play. It had a fantastic song list, nice players, and a decent community. Now i try this version, Serviced by Redbana. When i booted it up, i was amazed to find that a song full of swearing was playing. Ive played two versions of this previously (Nexon, SEA) And none of those versions had songs with swearing in them. Then, i opened up the channel list, finding that in the *free channel* All the rooms were locked, stopping new players from joining (A Few had in the title, No noobs) . In a MMO, especially a casual one that is unexcusable. I Understand its not the Developers fault, but the players on at the time. The Real nail in the coffin was the Song list. NONE OF THE SONGS ARE RECOGNIZABLE. Most are generic songs that came with Audition, Where is Earth,Wind and Fire? Boogie Wonderland was one of the best songs to ddr to. Basically, if you like Dance games, go pick up DDR, or DJmax. You will be saving time and valuable Download quota. 1/10

I found this game and really really hope to feel the nostalgic, but the verification email never sent to me

Can't remeber if i've written a review for this already, but if not this will be an updated review. To start off- yes. I am an old veteran of this game. Do not let the hours clocked on steam fool you. I've played this game since middle school, and stopped playing midway through highschool. I'm now in college. Yes, this game used to be very popular, fun an interactive. I remember when channels 1-2 would be packed full, and players would have to spill over into channel 3 on weekends. Those were the days. But this is not the case anymore. This game is absolutely, completely 100% DEAD. To basically simplfy the rest (and what you really need to know): PROS -EXCELLENT MUSIC SELECTION. Whether your a K-pop or J-pop weeb, triple G thug, or EDM acid junkie they have tracks to suit just about everybody. Zeds dead, Diplo, Beyonce, Jay-z, Big Bang, Tropkillaz......etc. even the weekend if you wanna catch some feels about your ex's. - CHALLENGING GAMEPLAY* (Will expand on in CONS) -LARGE MULTITUDE OF DIFFERENT MODES so you do not get bored. -DO NOT HAVE TO SPEND MONEY on in game items to look decent. Spending money is completely optional. -LEVEL DOES NOT MATTER. It is only a placeholder for the game to display to other players how long you may have been playing and what kind of skill level you may have (as your level up mission becomes increasingly diffcult with level). -STILL RECIEVES UPDATES TO CONTENT CONS: -DEAD COMMUNITY. *IMPORTANT* Literally the only people still populating this game are old veterans like myself, alot of which have been playing 5+ years. Assume any noob character is a smurf because 99.9% of the time they are. This creates NUMEROUS problems because when this game was still getting new players (which it isn't anymore), they would quit almost immediately because they would join the game and join a room to play with what seems like other new players only to be horrified when the game starts that all of the noob characters they were playing with were actually smurf alts of people anywhere from lvl 30-70. Also, If you were to open up this game right now- the only channel that has any kind of population is channel 1 (which is packed full most of the time so GL spamming the enter button to get into the channel). Otherwise your forced onto channel 2, which is very empty. Here's the kicker though, Even if you were to get into channel 1- the most/only populated channel in the game......half of the channel will be full of AFK'ERS and LOCKED ROOMS. Meaning half the people there aren't really there, and alot of the ones that are there are playing in rooms that have a password required in order for you to enter. Alot of the locked rooms are filled with Veterans of the game who sometimes get together and play for old times sake. Sometimes they leave the rooms open, but you better hope they dont instantly kick you when you try to enter. And even if they let you stay, who wants to play with level 45's on 8 key, 6 chance? (Some of the hardest modes in the game). I digress. -CHALLENGING GAMEPLAY. So why is this a pro and con? Depends on if you like a challenge or not, and are okay with investing the time to be good at something. This is not a game you can just "start playing". You are definitely going to struggle, and even after you get the hang of it- you have a million other modes and kinks in the game you will have to learn and conquer. You do not have to master every mode, but the basic mode's for the game are C4* and CC4* (which is C4 but about 2x as hard). CC4 is the basic go-to mode for most players in this game. Most of the rooms will be CC4. You will need to also learn CHANCE* if you want to end up in anything besides last place in every match you play which even with the time I have invested in this game, still sometimes have a hard time with. (*More on these if you DL and go through the game tutorial). -OUTDATED GRAPHICS. Considering this is a game from 2007, I was really hesitant to list it as a con. I mean the graphics match for the years it was initially released for. Asking them to bring Unreal Engine graphics to this game is pretty unrealistic at this point. The entire game would have to be shut down, updated and reconfigured, then re-released in it's new state. Considering paying money into this game is 100% optional, and the community would probably not stick around to see it's re-release, the game wouldn't survive. And If you even clicked on this game in the first place, let's be honest- your not here for graphics. Although i do agree they could at minimal update the textures/ character models. -BUGS AND EXPLOITATION. I don't know how many hacks and cheats still exist, but when I was playing this game it was full of many holes. Players could download programs that would cheat the game by giving them an 100% perfect rate (which can more than quarduple your score) and also allowed them to cheat modes that gave out game cash. Bannable offense if reported and found, but who cares if they ban several of your level 1-7 noob ult accounts when you can make more? Also, this game is buggy. Not to the point it's completely unplayable- it's mostly playable. But don't be suprised if suddenly you lag like sh*t on your 100% working internet connection because the game get's ahead of itself then try's to repace everything- only to mess itself up further. Sometimes the game will also randomly disconnect you, and once it boots you if you relog you cannot resume the match you were just in. You will be locked out of that game until it finishes without you, you will also not earn any XP or prize money for that match either no matter how far along it was. There are specific maps that don't seem to be configured very well where these things will occur very frequently, and certian mode/song combinations will also trigger the bugs. It's very easy to learn what they are and how to work around them (like avoiding the christmas map). -UPDATED CONTENT. This is also listed as a con, because even though there a new modes being added, and new songs being added- the base game itself isnt being adressed. You can throw brand new rims on a 1991 chevy, but at its core it's still an old rusty chevy. FINAL VERDICT: Game in '07 to '10 - 7.5/10 Game now and probably into the end of time: 1/10.
