This game brings a fresh twist to the twin-stick shooter genre, offering a balanced mix of challenge, strategy, and fast-paced action. But when I start the game, it says that the game is best played with a controller, but it doesn't detect my controller. So that was a party pooper.
📝Story/Plot without spoilers:

🔸 Your objective is clear—destroy the Warlock, a powerful capital ship hiding in the eastern sectors. How you approach this goal is entirely up to you. Will you raid enemy bases for crucial resources, rescue allied ships, or head straight for the Warlock, guns blazing? Each decision shapes your journey, with different risks and rewards awaiting every choice you make. Your ultimate success depends on your strategy, skill, and willingness to embrace the chaos of space warfare.

🎮Gameplay:

🔸At its core, Astrodrifter is a top-down twin-stick shooter, but it stands out thanks to its unique drift mechanics. Mastering the art of drifting while aiming precisely is essential, as you’ll constantly be manoeuvring to dodge incoming fire and line-up shots. The game’s rogue-lite structure ensures that no two playthroughs are the same—each run offers new routes, enemies, and upgrade opportunities, making it both challenging and rewarding. ------🔹The campaign revolves around hunting down the Warlock, but you’re free to tackle different objectives on your way. Want to raid enemy bases for rare resources? Go for it. Prefer rescuing friendly ships to build alliances? The choice is yours. This freedom, combined with the ever-present risk of ambushes, means every decision counts. Don’t be surprised if you get chased down by a fleet of enemies if you linger too long in a sector! ------🔹For players seeking an even tougher experience, the Challenge Levels offer a thrilling test of your reflexes and tactics. These levels ramp up the difficulty with more aggressive enemies and denser combat scenarios. You can tackle them solo or bring a friend along in split-screen co-op, adding an extra layer of fun and competition.

📷Graphics and Audio:

🔸 While the visuals aren’t groundbreaking, the game’s aesthetic works well for its style. The retro-inspired graphics, smooth performance, and eye-catching effects all combine to create a visually satisfying experience. Each explosion and laser trail pops against the dark space backdrop, making dogfights feel intense and immersive. The lack of diverse environments might stand out after long sessions, but it doesn’t detract from the overall experience.

📝Main Pros and Cons:
🟩Pros- +Unique drift mechanics that add a fresh spin to combat +A rogue-lite campaign with meaningful choices and replay value +Fluid difficulty curve that rewards both strategy and skill +Split-screen co-op is a fun addition for challenge levels 🟥Cons- -Soundtrack can become repetitive over extended playtime -Could use more environment variety to keep things visually fresh
🏷️Tips for beginners:

🔸 Keep moving—drifting is crucial to avoid enemy fire. Master it early on to turn the tides of battle in your favour. 🔸 Don’t just focus on firepower; invest in upgrades that boost your speed and defense as well. 🔸 Choose your paths wisely in the campaign. Some routes are more dangerous but offer better loot, while others are safer with minimal rewards. It’s all about balancing risk and reward.

✉️Miscellaneous Information:
Challenge Levels- For those who crave an extra challenge, these levels feature denser enemy waves and more intense dogfights. Play them solo or in split-screen for some chaotic fun. Only the most skilled Astrodrifters will survive!
😇Verdict:

🔸 Overall, Astrodrifter offers a surprising blend of fast-paced action and tactical depth. The drift mechanic is a unique twist that adds layers to the traditional twin-stick formula, making the game feel both fresh and challenging. Whether you’re a fan of arcade shooters or looking for a rogue-lite with some serious bite, this one is worth a look. Don’t underestimate it—just be prepared to practice those drifts!

Rating: 8.5/10 Bumping into asteroids and dying.
Astrodrifter is another space shooter that sets its standards by its low price and doesn't really try to nail the play details as much as to merely exist. It is, at least, a thruster shooter, a distinctly underserved game style.

Wastes time with a "designed for controller" screen, but there seems to be no way to get the game to respond to my standard xinput/xbox controller unless I both turn it off and then back on after starting the game, nor are there any controller settings. The mapping is obviously not ideal (eg, bumper commands should be X and B so they don't conflict with shooting and thrusting, and R3 should not be used), the shooting trigger response is poor, and the trust is analog, but thrust seems too weak for that to do more than effectively lower thrust response, which you need snappy.
No controller reticle, so aim feel is poor (aim assist is on by default for controller and mouse, but you can turn it off). Controller reticle may come but is not promised, while mouse has a dual reticle like the game needs. Mouse aim is slow and mixing mouse and controller via Steam Input didn't work. Basically the aim behavior/play is just bad unless you use aim assist to make up for the play.
Starts every run with a very slow, tedious scene that seemingly does not respond to any input to skip or speed up. That's two horrible choices, and it wastes valuable time trying to get the game working during the refund window. This seemed to finally stop once I found a gate and went through it. The lengthy traveling to a gate once you see a small, unmarked circle on your scanner feels really boring, especially with no distance indicator to tell you how far away things are when you scan.
Developer ignored their Steam forum and posted no updates the first couple weeks since launch, but seems to have responded to some things after complaining here, so they're not totally absent; however, dev posts have also indicated they already moved on to other projects and not to expect much change. The game strikes me as another mini-project that exists for its dev and not really for players, which doesn't leave a lot of reason to spend time with it when we have other also inexpensive games that try to deliver more interesting experiences, like Radio Free Europa.
It's exactly what you see in the screenshots and trailer. If that looks like something you'd be interested in then pick this up. There's a number of ships that handle slightly differently and weapons that are sightly different. There's procedurally generated maps. There's different enemies that act a little different. It's a fun little twin stick shooter to waste some time on.
Pretty fun and challenging game, seemingly well made. Runs very smooth, clean and nice graphics. Very fun game play. Learning to control your ship takes a bit of getting used to but it's part of the challenge and it's a good one. It's definitely worth the price.
Love it! It's a sharp learning curve, so it might take about an hour to get used to, but it's worth it. You'll stop running into asteroids eventually. The progression is equally difficult but the gameplay is fun enough that you never seem to notice when you're replaying. Graphics and sounds/music are excellent.
bruhhhh the idea is soo old the f@#king dev didnt even tired on this sh!t i want my money back
Fun little game, pretty hard - I always run out of credits to continue where I left off which dev may wish to allow a toggle for. Adds challenge for sure but sometimes puts me off grinding them back just to effectively reload the game.
