Ashes of Ambition is not a good game. Do not purchase it, don’t even consider it.
Grammatical errors? Chock-full.
Crafting recipes? Dunno, couldn’t find any.
Money? Dunno, couldn’t make any.
First quest was apparently to deliver a bunch of crap to some dude in a bunker but either I missed out on that part during the text-only dialogue, or the game makes no mention at all of the fact that the resources you’re told to buy aren’t actually for you at all. If you use ANY of the 10 medkits you’re told to purchase, which, by the way, are called Al2Medic and each take up an individual slot of your inventory, you need to purchase more from the vendor by the guy you’re delivering to. It’s funny as hell because when you deliver the medkits, some of which you may have to purchase from the mechanic’s neighbor, he will say “thanks, I was running low”.
You will very quickly find that the map is nearly pointless as a whole. Buildings can’t be entered, most containers can’t be opened, the containers that do will hold nothing of any significant value, and you will muddle your way along. You will eventually kill your first enemy, and as you rush towards their body in this “tactical shooter” to loot their gun and ammo, their corpse will disappear and you will be greeted with a sparkling pickup that says: “DOLAR [150]”.
20 minutes of running around in the forest and I found ONE plant I could interact with to gain fiber. Bought a pickaxe to mine some rocks to try and build, and discovered that seemingly no rocks on the main map can actually be mined. I assume I need to go into the cave on the map to mine ores or something but I’m not sure how to refine them.
I bought this game because I was bored and wanted to play something that was pretty clearly not going to be the groundbreaking, innovative, indie GOTY. I wanted to find some devslop, trashy unity asset flip to ♥♥♥♥ around on for a few hours, but this game broke me. I spent an hour and a half meandering around and being confused by the introduction of story elements that seemingly came out of the blue. I found a dude in the forest and a quest that simply said “learn crafting”. And I hooked something up wrong, and COULD NOT DELETE THE CABLE, NO MATTER WHAT I TRIED. This essentially soft-locked me into a point where I was dead broke, had exhausted my other options, and, had I continued to be as stubborn about the game as I was during the first leg of this botched journey, I would have had to drive all the way back to the second area and farm enemy units until I had enough cash to buy a whole new crafting bench and a whole new solar array. No. Absolutely cannot. CANNOT Recommend enough that you stay far, FAR away from whatever the ♥♥♥♥ this game is.
“Ashes of Ambition” plays like it sounds. A hollow, poorly-made, unfinished mess, that somehow feels like a proper, genuine game was made in Turkish, shot full of holes, cremated, and then re-sold as a new product. The only “Ambition” I have in this game is to find a way to physically print its code onto a disk and throw it in a microwave.
This is not even a good game to play if you’re looking for an objectively bad game to play. The best part about this game is the ambient soundtrack in the forest, I could 100% fall asleep with that running in the background. Everything else about this game is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ awful, dude.
I've played better pre-alpha builds. I could have sat down alone with a deck of cards by candlelight and had a better time. The 2 hours i spent, and $7 I will never get back, will never be forgotten, nor forgiven. This game is truly, truly, in a league of its own. I have never had a more miserable experience.
