Grapple, glide, double-jump, climb & stomp your way to victory. Gobsmacked is all about momentum and verticality.
Put on a show to entertain the crowds; they determine your rewards.

Gobsmacked is fully physically simulated. You can snatch, throw, kick and gleefully wreck almost anything you can see.

Our whole thing is "small, delightful, obnoxious games sold for the same price as a beer during happy hour". We don't put this on sale. It's a low sale-ish price, all the time. Pick it up if you think it looks cool!
A goblin gladiator's fast paced and frantic battle against repurposed kitchen utensils in an everchanging thunderdome of potential...
In the annals of goblinkind, the only tactic is madness, and this game really nails the techno-mayhem that goblins have enjoyed since they were repurposed from dungeon dwelling herofodder to mercantile capitalist duchebags in the Warcraft franchise. In Gobsmacked you play as a goblin gladiator on your quest for glory fighting through a series of more and more diabolical arenas filled with junkbots, traps and a fair amount of destructible terrain. During the run you gain the favor of the crowd to gain more ammo, bombs and well earned gold that you can invest in a roguelite ability, a weapon or a gizmo that boosts your abilities to beyond peak performance. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3577474371 To be fair I have a weak spot for this particular goblinpunk aesthetic of crafting stuff with equal amounts of hot glue and madness and from a pure visual standpoint this game is great! The setting is pure anarchy and I really love the idea of a goblin bloodsport with one part robotwars and the other part a lone gunner trying its best to survive the ensuing carnage. The music is great as well and really suits the ups and downs of the arenacrowd as you do an amazing trickshot only to land flat on the most telegraphed attack ever to be conceived by a mechanical shotgun… https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3577470843 When it comes to one of my favourite genres of games of all times, Quake 3 Arena and Unreal Tournament are pretty damn high on my list of games I really remember fondly despite me being terribly mid at them. The gameplay reminds me of the best parts of those games, always running, always gunning and trying to outwit your opponent. Only this time your opponents are stupid as can be, and make up for it in sheer mass! I will say that the first few arenas are kind of a dud after a while since they are so sparsely populated that they hardly pose anything else but a chore, but the later stages, and in particular the final arena are marvelous! The fact that you only get to carry one gun at a time is a bit of a bummer, but I get that it is probably a balancing act. Other than that the gameplay is smooth, responsive and really damn fun! https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3577471165 Conclusion: Gobsmacked get a hearty recommendation from me, especially on a sale! This is a really well crafted game that oozes theme! I will say that I would love to see more gamemodes, but since this is the very definition of an indie-title I guess it is over and done. In short, a really great arena battler where you can kick back and enjoy some chill rampage while basking in the jubilation of the chittering crowd. I think this game is painfully boring. All you do is fight in the vertical arenas and the movement is so unintuitive. Wall jumping is bad, you always get stuck on some pixels. Grapling hook doesn't work the way it should in many situations. And the most important thing - the gameplay is very uninspiring and monotonous. Collecting coins after every arena finish becomes tedious after a few victories.... I would rather touch a cactus without gloves than play this.
https://youtu.be/kuw0DGl0TfQ Lacking variety in arenas the moment to moment play often feels repetitive very early on in a run.
Beat the arena playthrough in my third run, game is silly and fun, I'm glad I got it and I love his little menu hand!
Ash & Adam's GOBSMACKED is a frustrating game to review because some things in this "roguelike" procgen arena shooter/platformer hybrid are near AAA quality... and the core design decisions are pants-on-head dumb. This is well polished, with smooth gameplay and framerates and acceptable-ish visuals (a little on the mobile phone side). And there's nothing to do in it, because it's contentless procgen. This has all the fixings to create a phenomenal near AAA first person shooter adventure game, and could well have sold units into 6 or even 7 figures... but the developers snatched defeat from the jaws of victory, by, well, just not bothering with anything gamers actually want. As a result, this was a dismal failure. Most of the time when I review a game, well, if it's a bad game and it's obvious and you just say why and move on, but here, this is one of those cases where I wish this didn't fail and didn't have that core game design flaw that it does. Quick bit on what this is: You play a kinda-cute-kinda-crittery goblin and fight a bunch of stuff in procedurally generated levels in first person perspective. Okay. On the upside, the game does feature customisable controls and resolution, so at least some of the basic, minimum requirements have been met. Unfortunately there's a number of other technical defects and shortcomings which contribute to the game being difficult to recommend to gamers. This looks a lot like it was designed for consoles, but released on Steam instead by mistake. While this is on PC, it has all the hallmarks and deficiencies of a console game, from the clunkier than needed control scheme to the less than cutting edge graphics. There's 10's of thousands of PC games on Steam, and PC gamers deserve only the best. This might not appeal to many gamers due to the lack of PC-centric design. It's unclear why this never made it to the video game console appliances it seems to have been designed for. The game features slightly low-polygon "retro" assets with cartoony, mobile app style shader effects, making this look like a barely functional mobile app from 15 years ago. This visual style is a method that lazy devs often use when they have a lack of interest/capability to create highly detailed, high poly models and instead use shader effects to disguise that shortcoming under the name of "art", or "We made it look bad on purpose", which really isn't something gamers should have to put up with. It's unclear why the developers weren't willing to arrange high quality, high polygon count contemporary assets and high resolution textures for the game. It's below the state of the art visuals gamers expect as a result of their decisions. But this is what really, really killed this. This is the reason the game was a failure. By design, this game features no proper level design or game/story flow/plot, as they opted to try to use samey repetitive procgen algorithms as a substitute for adding such content to the game, to avoid doing the important job of level/map design. As a result, the game doesn't actually have any content worth mentioning, just endless, boring, repetitive, soulless algorithmically generated sameyness. Developers must learn that procedural generation is not an acceptable substitute for content. While that's the intent of the game design, as you do repetitive "runs" through the samey procgen levels again and again, this adds less value to the experience than the developer doing their job and creating a completable narrative, even as an addon/game mode to the game. Because this is absent, the overall experience with the game becomes shallow very quickly. These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game. The poor quality of this game is reflected by how many people spent time with it. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the all-time peak player number was only 5 players. This is a remarkably low number, and now, the only player activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 120 million gamers on Steam and well over 130,000 games for gamers to choose from, the overwhelming lack of interest in this low quality game is to be expected. So, should you buy this game? Is this one of the best of the 130,000+ games on Steam? Ash & Adam's GOBSMACKED has the preposterous price of $10 USD, for which you could easily get any number of older AAA games. Given the defects and quality issues with the game, coupled with the unrealistic price, this is impossible to recommend. For comparison, the $10 asking price for this game could get you games like "7 Days to Die", "Rust" or "Wolfenstein - The New Order". Quality, professionally made games like those are frequently on sale cheaper than this.
Profile Features Limited! Valve have marked this game as "Profile Features Limited" at the time of this review. This is usually caused by poor sales figures and low community acceptance for the game (to date). Until this status changes, this game will not give you +1 to your Game Collector badge count, appear in profile achievements or any other Steam meta-accomplishments, nor can it be displayed in some profile showcases. If these factors are important to you, it may be worth holding off before buying this game.
Now this is a hidden gem! An unconventional arena "shooter" roguelite. I put shooter in quotes as you mostly kick and throw enemies, even though you have a bunch of weapons that shoot projectiles. Apart from the crossbow, every weapon is very weird and you have to play fairly differently depending on what you get your hands on. Even the bomb variants are all a little weird. Plus as a goblin you can climb surfaces and have a variety of modifiers aswell that let you do different things, such as floating in the air and double jump. I love the music and style of the game, it kinda reminds me of Oddworld: Strangers Wrath a bit; particularly the soundtrack. My favourite part of the game is hands down how aggressive you have to be so you don't bore your fans, once you get that combo up you're practically showered in gold and items which is very satisfying. The game is very short to complete and a single run is only about 20 minutes. I can't believe this game only has 29 reviews as of writing this. Painfully underrated and 100% worth your time.
I don't play many FPS games, but GOBSMACKED stands out to me for its freedom of movement and how the environment can be used very effectively in combat. Throwing stuff feels way different than using a weapon. Weapons feel way more careful and calculated, which helped me conserve ammo. I had a good time learning how to be efficient in this game. Once I learned the controls enough to be able to play at the pace the game encourages, maximizing my score in each stage made the game really click for me. Beyond that there's plenty of opportunities for cool builds, and I'm looking forward to discovering those.
it's good game, but not for me best of luck with the game!
