Ascension is a visual novel following three lost souls as they venture into The Zone - a dangerous and alien world. Follow the abrasive Doctor, the shy Scholar and sardonic Escort on their journey - though none of them will come out unscathed.

You get what you expect from a visual novel, it's like reading a free book. Have a flip through.
I love this game, a lovely insight into the feelings that some of us go through daily while still being a new and different story in an interesting setting. A bit much body horror for my taste, but to be expected in a radioactive environment I guess, still would/will play it again
An excellent game. The only problem is I just want more. I want more of this world, these characters, and their stories. Regardless, If you have a few hours, it is 1000% worth your time. 10/10 - The characters should all make out sloppy style, or you played the game wrong.

Not linear enough to make sense to me. I get that these characters are evolving through the experiences. But I couldn't follow what anything they encountered symbolized to their journey. Things would happen in one scene, then not have happened in the next scene. It didn't make sense to me. But others liked it so maybe try it yourself.
Beautiful.
This game wears its influences on its sleeve. Mechanically it is almost identical to We Know The Devil, and carries many of the same themes of othering from society and discomfort with your own body and existence. Its concept of the Zone reminiscent of STALKER but far emptier and less violent. The writer's experience as a doctor comes across in the terminology, descriptions and metaphors it uses regarding bodies, wounds, DNA and so on. I would have definitely appreciated some explanation of things like psychosilver and what The Hierarchy. Perhaps there were good opportunities to have the characters find a bit more or discuss a bit more while scavenging around, but I did find what the game disclosed interesting all the same. I enjoyed it a lot overall, although I personally found We Know The Devil more affecting. Nonetheless, I recommend giving this one a read since it is interesting, and it has some great moments. My own favourite was the graveyard of names, which hit quite hard for me.
Short and sweet, definitely worth taking an hour or two to enjoy.
really good queer VN inspired by We Know The Devil!
I admit I didnt fully get this one my first time through. It just felt a bit like a massochist's romance- but emptier??? It wasnt till I decided to give it another shot that I got a route that made it a lot more clear what I was actually looking at.
Ship of Theseus but trans. Exploring the many questions you might experience as a trans person without outright saying it.
Some scenes were certainly stronger than others, but upon trying them all I can say I liked what they did here. Happy Pride, happy Stonewall Anniversary, and may we all be safer to take whatever shape we please than our forefathers.
