Ascendant Hearts

Ascendant Hearts is a humorous and charming visual novel. It does rely a lot on fondly parodying a lot of old RPGs, possibly a little too heavily, but I still enjoyed it throughout. Because a lot of the humour depends of playing of the tropes and conventions of those, it definitely would lose a chunk of its appeal for those who aren't familiar with them. The art and music are great, and it is quite well-polished. They've done a good job with characterisation of the different love interests, too. I was honestly surprised at how much I liked it, having picked it up on sale at a major discount. The story is quite simple, and the game as a whole is fairly short - I think I finished it with all routes and achievements at a fairly leisurely pace in around 5.5 hours. Since then, they have added some more content, so I do play to play a little more to see that. I'd definitely recommend it, although given its short length, if cost is a concern to you, it might be best to way for a sale.
