ARSONATE

I did thoroughly enjoy the Arsonate demo on Itch.io and played it a bunch, and I wish I would have known sooner there was a full release of it. But, regardless, I bought it and played it. It is the same, but with an added double down mechanic. But here is the rundown of the basics. There are 29 cards, one tower card at the end for each side, with 5 starter cards in the middle of you and your opponent. There are three types of cards: Fire, Utility, and Redraw. Once a participant has flipped all the other cards from their side, they lose. The last card flipped is the fire tower. So, you want to protect your fire tower and want your opponent to flip all their cards on their side. On your turn, you choose a card to flip over on your side. If you flipped a fire, nothing happens. On redraw, you have to draw another card, and on utility, you get an item that aids you. There is an added mechanic of double down, where you draw another card. You get a jackpot when you draw two utility cards in a row and gain multiple items. There are items: Spyglass; get a peek at a card, Fire extinguisher; reset a card on your side, Gasoline; flip a card on your opponent's side, Crowbar; steal an item from your opponent, Axe; cancel effect of a card, The game is super simple, and that is what makes it great. The music, sound effects, and animations are great and make it feel like a high-stakes game. The games are pretty swingy with the double-down mechanic. It is a pretty great deal, and honestly, I think the game could be little a bit more expensive.

Exhilarating game, strong recommend

Played this game for over 30 hours on the itch .io demo, glad to finally see it in its final form! A really fun game that's quick to pick up, and I think would be an interesting physical game as well. One of my favorite games to be bad at.
