Arcane Wilds is a RTS that focuses on co-op missions similar to the co-op mode in Starcraft 2. It's a lot of fun to play missions with friends, upgrade your home island base and to see how high you can set the difficulty and still beat the mission. Besides the missions, you can play custom skirmishes against other players or the AI with the 3 main factions. For me personally the most exciting part of the game is its full mod support. The entire game logic is exposed in Lua and the game has a Steam Workshop that supports custom maps (think custom maps like in Warcraft 3 or the Arcade in Starcraft 2). This means it's possible to create completely new game modes. I had a lot of fun modding the game. Which is where the majority of my hours playing the game is coming from. I've created

A Tower Defense
A MOBA
Two RPG-like maps
An economy game (like transport tycoon)
A cardgame where you draft your deck and play in a tournament
A horse racing game
So feel free to check out the Steam Workshop as well to see what's around. :)
So I really hate to do this because I love indie developers trying new things and part of the reason I started reviewing games was to help the gaming community. So game dev, or game devs, please take my negatives as suggestions to help improve the game. But I cannot give it a thumbs up at this point in time. For an RTS game they're just not really implementing a lot of stuff that you need in games like this. -No visible que to know how many units are being built or if any are being built at all. -No significant way to view resources necessary to build and thrive -Only the one type of resource -No one playing online so online playing just isn't there -No interesting campaign either -Units not automatically gathering resources making you have to micromanage (They only auto gather wood) -And the combat is pretty average for RTS games. I guess I give it a thumbs down because despite being a gunpowder meets fantasy monsters kind of game, it's still really lackluster in a lot of other areas. But it's not all bad. The animations are great. The sound design is solid. The stability is phenominal. And the gameplay is close to being great. But the lack of a useful easy to read UI is frustrating. The lack of content in this early access game also makes it hard to really get into it in its current state. I suppose TLDR: The game is a 10 dollar game in it's current state, not 18. It's got a decent enough foundation to perhaps one day when its' fully released be worth 18 dollars, but right now my suggestion would be to add it to wishlist and wait and see. If you'd like a more in-depth look at the game then please check out the review on my YouTube Channel (link below). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E5UDJNO6qfM Otherwise, thanks so much for reading and I hope I managed to help some of you out there spend your money wisely.
Great game. The singleplayer is really fun, the gameplay loop is addicting and multiplayer with friends is great! Hit me up if you want to 1v1 ;)
Nice little Indie-RTS. It reminds me of Age of Empires 3 or Earth 2150 with its Homebase mechanic (Campaign). You have your Home/Mainbase which you continuesly evolve/upgrade and start missions from. Also very unique; you can steal ressources, so you always have to look out for that.
Fun RTS with a unique resource mechanic bring wood to construction sites and essence into battle to cast spells. Like any RTS, learning tech trees and counters takes some time, but that’s what makes it so engaging.
Well let me start off with, I have played the playtest and demo, and have loved this game from the start. I have had a great time playing today in coop missions, got the honour of being able to assist with some crash issues. Learned a lot about the game and was able to provide feedback. Dev is super awesome and receptive. Game is a really great blend of a lot of features i love in the RTS field. I truly appreciate an RTS that offers the versatility while also being engaging. Really enjoy the different factions as well. Hope for more factions and more awesome features. Strongly suggest giving it a go if you live playing SC2 feeling coops. There are also some pretty cool mods out as well. Six thumbs way way up.
At this time I cannot recommended the game , there are several things that just does not make sense. For example there is no global resource pool. You can set up resource depots that your engineers can deposit then have carts move that to your shipyard to be deposited and can be used , all very normal things for an RTS. Except it does not go into a global resource pool , it goes into its local resource pool so unless you build a building nearby that depot you cannot use the the ore or wood. I do not know why they decided this was the best thing to do but until that is fixed I would steer clear of this game. It just does not make sense. My second major gripe is the custom creation game mode , you cannot set win conditions , cannot choose starting locations. I am all surprised it lets you pick teams and whether an AI is to be used or not. Its very bare bones to be honest and surprising. As for everything else , its just a normal RTS with noting special. Sure pick this up if its on sale or if you just like playing different/ new RTS games. I would not expect this to overtake any game in your library or even become a regular game you play. Its just not good.
It’s been a while since I last played an RTS game, as the genre has felt a bit stale. I’m really glad I gave this indie gem a shot! The demo won me over with its fresh take on some core RTS mechanics. I haven’t tried Multiplayer yet, but the resource-stealing mechanic must result in fantastically chaotic and exciting games! :D The developers seem super active, and I’m excited to see how the game evolves from here. I can definitely recommend this game. Give it a shot!
Interesting take on the RTS genre. You can steal resources from other players and move them around to help power your troop abilities. The framework is there for a solid game and I'll revisit it after some more updates.
I love the missions in this game, jump in with your friends and do some coop missions!
