✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨
8/10 Blind Cats recommend this game.
✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨ ☑️Interesting Concept. ☑️Good 4th wall breaks. ☑️Interesting Characters, very distinguished. ☑️Good sense of humor. ❌Surround Sound (VR Audio) doesn't work really well in some sections.
My personal opinion?
Apotheorasis is a game that puts you in the mental image of the main character. You are blind. You can not see, hence why there is no "Game" so you are relying on sound in a virtual sense with the in game audio. It's a really fun experience, but the execution of the audio for me was giving me problems. Mainly the ending where I was incapable of understanding the direction of certain audio ques. The long story short is: It does what it is trying to do well, while also failing at times. Some sections felt Stereo others felt 7.1 Surround Sound. I would play a full game like this if it were fleshed out so there were no issues with the audio. You could make so many types of games using audio ques and the world would be built around the gamer, which would be a nice touch.
Finally, true realism in graphical fidelity. More seriously, this is a fascinating project and I quite enjoy it. Unfortunately the gameplay was a little cumbersome near the end, specifically when there were several overlapping audio queues and it was unclear what I needed to do, so I also spent a lot of time restarting from checkpoints and playing trial and error, which is really not great.
When I first saw this game, I thought "How hard could this be, its just a sound based game". Turns out I couldn't be anymore wrong. This game takes a simple premise and pushes the boundary on what we think we can do. This is one of the best games I have ever played and presents simple controls that work well with the format of the game. The sound format gives a high skill floor for those that like spamming while there is a high skill ceiling for making quick shots accurately. My only gripes with the game is the lack of sound or narration cues in some sections that can leave you wondering what you're meant to do. This game might also do better with some ui elements for being on the main menu so that its clearer whats being referred to.
The concept, gameplay, and story are engaging and super interesting! Though for a game entirely based on sound, the voice acting and sound design are a little disappointing. The characters and world seem really plastic and lack dimension, and it makes it hard to feel really immersed in the world or find my way around.
Only bad thing about this game are some sections not being explained very well and its length. On my first time playing the game took me around 30 minutes according to the game itself, my steam time is as in the review, my estimations are that it took around 70 minutes. There is some replay value if you are a completionist (good luck btw) or just like to challenge yourself. My headphones are Beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO (80ohm)s and I use an equaliser to boost the volume (by about 4dB), among other things, but some sections of the game were too quiet. Nothing that made the game unpleasant to play but enough that I was straining to hear voices or know where I needed to go at times. Every person's experience will be different regarding atmosphere and world for obvious reasons, though personally I found it really easy to immerse myself with the descriptions and sounds the game gives. The humour is quite charming but there isn't too much of it. Overall, It's worth giving a shot. Try the demo and see if you like it first. You want to play this multiple times to get the best value for your money, even then, wait for a sale before buying. Quality of the product is hard to complain about otherwise!
The writing is great, the sound design is great and the graphics are perfect.
If you've ever wanted to be a bat with a gun and shield, this is your game. I have no complaints with the difficulty, though I do think you should be given a little more clear instructions. Very good game 👍
I was going to recommend this until the very final bit at the end. I struggled with it for over 30 minutes. I had absolutely no idea what was going on, and I only beat it though random sequences. I never figured out what I was supposed to do. Just blind luck. Incredibly frustrating, and it just killed the whole game for me.
Who needs those expensive graphic card if you can just imagine the visual inside your head. Put my headset, close my eyes and just follow the sounds. The characters have very distinct and uniqueness from their voices, and they have their own accent as well, the ambient sounds done pretty well, and the music is beautiful. They capture the whole environment pretty well and what kind of places they want us to experience. Props to the sound engineer, foley artist, voice actor and music on this game. The shooting part actually pretty easy but the chasing scene and dodging the minefield is kinda tricky because there's a lot of noise trying to distract you from the main goal. My only complain about this game is how short the game is, took me about 1 hour to finish the main story and that already including death, a lot of death. And after finishing the main game you just have some challenges like speedrun and no death run. I kinda wish the dev add more stuff and level to this kind of game, because I'm actually enjoying this kind of game..
