While the game has alot of potential, if you're expecting something like plague inc, or pandemic but with gods this isn't it. This is a long haul game where you have to very carefully play exactly how the developers envisioned and if you don't you'll find yourself sitting at the screen for hours on end waiting for random events to show up that use RNG to determine success,. Even if you have 100% traits/rates, you can still fail. While the game is a very interesting concept, it lacks surfacing basic UI elements that most games would use to communicate instant feedback to the player, and instead of a "steady resource management" game as the videos try to make you believe it is, its a "pool of resources" strategy game. If you make any mistakes, (by which I mean if RNG hates you, or you don't select the options the developers preordained as the 'good option') you get stuck and likely have to start over. Sure you could wait for random events, but you cannot even tab out of the game to wait for events to spawn, you have to sit there in real time and die of boredom for quite a while, and even then it's not likely you'll get anything meaningful out of the events. Additionally, the game for some unknown reason has lot of far-left bias politics in it, even making mentions of "alt-right", and modern politics that really shouldn't have too much place in a typical god game, to an absurd degree. For a game where you're suppose to play as a god from ancient mythology you're expected to take the leftist approach to be a honorable god. It's silly. Most of these gods did some pretty screwed up stuff in mythology anyway. Overall I cannot recommend the game, because while it clearly had alot of passion funneled into it, they didn't take into account some very basic game building concepts that you come to expect in the last decade of game design - and while I might suffer through a "B-level game" , I'm not going to do it while also having someones political bias thrown in my face every few minutes.
I played this game on my friend's computer for two days when I visited him last weekend, and honestly, I had to reinstall Steam and buy this gem for myself because to me, it is such a great game with an affordable price, although there are still a few areas need improvements. Pros: 1) Portraits are great, God's abilities are very well-written. 2) The music is calm and soothing. 3) The gameplay is challenging enough to keep me engaged and not discouraged. However, as some people mentioned, this might be too hard for them, so if there is an option to tune down the difficulty, it will be more helpful. 4) I really like how there is no perfect combination for Gods and Minor Gods. For example, take the benevolent route of Dionysus, he lacks of abilities to positively affect Education and Climate, and out of all the Minor Gods, only Thalassa can positively affect Climate, so both Dionysus and Thalassa combined are still not able to positively affect Education. To me, this is challenging and I love it. Cons: 1) I agree there should be a button for quickening the gameplay, there was one time the game went on more than 10 minutes with no event occured. I thought it was frozen, but it was not. 2) The UI is somewhat blurry on bigger screen, but this can certainly be improved. 3) The skepticism penalty for choosing options should be less punishing, I once lost a game literally just by getting three +10% skepticism in a row (I was at 28% skepticism). Again, thank you so much for this gem, developers! I am always a fan of Greek mythology and find your game is a valuable addition to this genre. I hope my feedback is helpful for you all. Again, great effort! Don't let negative reviews bring you down! To other gamers, I understand your frustration but please be kind and polite and give the team some time to polish the game because this team is a very small team and they need constructive feedback to improve the game better. Please pardon me if I am asking too much. Sincerely.
Hi, I added this game to my library since version 0.4. Concept is nice, I like the idea of being a god who wants to rule the humankind. Developers want to make it a good game, they are listening and we can see improvements for each new version released. Neverless, I cannot recommand the game in his actual form (version 1.10). Maybe I am dumb but I do not understand how I should play. I understand the mecanism thanks to the tutorial who was added in a previous version . Advice to creators, maybe by having kind of simplest scenario where we are guided to the victory. Like a small campaign where we have to convert one or two contries. Please explain us how to play because the idea is good and it could be a pleasant game. Regards,
Abandonware.
I've had great fun playing this game - who doesn't want the chance to conquer the world as a Greek god? The artwork is gorgeous, and it's clear that a lot of thought's gone into making the different gods (and their powers) unique, as well as staying true to their roles in mythology. Also, the changes from the most recent update (e.g. modelling the countries' population after real life) have really helped to make it feel more immersive, as you watch your converts rack up into the millions! There's still a few strategic nuances I'm not sure I've grasped yet, but the developers have been quick to respond to comments/bug reports, and that's really refreshing. I can't wait to see what the finished product looks like, as it's already a lot of fun, and can only get better!
UI is terrible. Much too small on a 4 K monitor. Cannot pluck out tiny countries like Belgium or read the mouse over text clearly. Artwork is totally amateurish. Flat and plain. Gameplay is very slow. Cool downs in a single player game ? Why ? Your god(dess) will fail on world events far too easily. Are you a god(dess) or just some influential celebrity ? Most of all the tutorial is nearly useless and does not explain the game mechanics at all. I see many others have already played Plague Inc, but I have not, so don't assume your players begin already having played similar games. It looked interesting, but its too much bother to figure out what the hidden path to success is, and the rewards are too tiny an incentive to continue.
keeps getting better
It's a cute game. I hope the devs will make a sequel with more depth and strategy!
