Really nice game, quite a gem For old school players, you will remember Ultima III,IV,V or AD&D Beginning is hard (have to flee battles and try to kill enemies with bows), levelling is relatively slow, perfect from my point of view After some levels (5-10), battles become interesting I bought it discounted (about 3-4€), I really recommend it, from my point of view better that most of current RPG games sold more than 30-40€ (Pathfinder excepted)
I did not play this game for very long, ultimately quitting before finishing the first dungeon because RNG killed me and I didn't have a save. I didn't feel motivated to redo the party construction and starting sequence. I've played a ton of RPGs in my life, and this game simply lacks the polish necessary to be a good RPG and seems to have some pretty core design flaws that are repeated across many RPGs. I'd recommend not getting this game unless you are very patient. PROS: - Just from what I've seen, the art and music are both nice. They're partially what convinced me to purchase the game originally, because it seems like it has the right mix of nostalgia and ambience that fits a lot of RPGs well. - You can fully customize your party of 4 CONS: - The story is very lightweight and even in the first moments relies on a lot of tired concepts - your party are prisoners, there is a kingdom at peace until your village is attacked, there is a vague evil besetting the land, and so on. Maybe more would be revealed as the game progressed, but I simply wasn't motivated to play from the story. That's OK, as long as the gameplay is good... - The gameplay just isn't very fun. You basically get to move a few squares and then make an attack or cast a spell. That would be fine if there was some strategy layered on top with positioning, or choosing weapons, or using abilities, but it seems like the game is content to just be a simplistic dungeon crawler. That's OK, as long as the UI and polish is nice enough that I can play it mindlessly and relax soaking in the art and music... - The UI is super clunky and the game overall feels like it lacks polish. It's easy to get stuck on walls while moving. The encumbrance system seems totally unnecessary and it took me a few minutes to realize the shackles your characters wear at the start weight 45 pounds (!). The lighting is very dim during exploration, but during encounters suddenly rooms light up immediately. You cannot click and drag items, you have to first click to pick up an item, then click where you want to place it. If you drop an item, you have to click a confirmation dialogue for every item, even useless items like the shackles at the start. You cannot move the inventory window around. If you interact with objects on the map like doors to pick their lock, you do so using the currently selected character rather than the character with the highest lockpick skill (even though the party all travels in one big blob so there's no interesting reason for it as I can tell). The UI doesn't make which character is selected obvious enough, so I wasted one of my lock picks. There is no "auto-sort inventory" button. there is no quick equip button. Most of the interactions on the map are designed for keyboard rather than mouse. It is annoying to have to walk to each individual barrel and loot them using the clunky UI, just for some scraps of poor loot. The game doesn't have any autosave or "reload from save", so upon death I was just booted back to the main menu. There are no options available to set for the game such as resolution, windowing mode, music volume, or animation speed. Animations are limited in visual flair but they take forever, so simple combats against rats feel like a chore. You know, I could look over all of this if there was some interesting and thoughtful combat on the other side of this mountain of questionable choices and poor UI... - The opening encounters of the dungeon are super dull. You spend several fights against rats in the opening dungeon, and there just isn't anything interesting about them. It didn't excite me to see what new encounters I might fight, it was just a slog where I line up my fighting characters against the rats while plinking away with arrows and sometimes casting the only spell the wizard characters have to start. OF course, we might expect early combat to be simplistic, since surely later combats will become more interesting... - The game's character creation was kind of boring, with no clear indication that there would ever be anything more exciting for most characters other than making their numbers go up and getting powerful loot. Wizard characters start with one spell in their chosen area, and that's it. Everyone else just distributed their meager pool of points into one or maybe two skills and hops right in. RPGs can be so much more, with fun and interesting mechanics, strategic choices, playstyles, but this game is old school in all the worst ways. Your fighters will swing their weapons, your archers will shoot their bows, and your wizard will cast their spell and be mostly useless for the rest of the combat, just like old school D&D. I ended up dying to rats through a streak of bad luck. Once I got booted back to the main menu, realizing I didn't create a save file and with no option to have continued from the start of the encounter, I realized there was simply nothing drawing me back into the game. It's dull in almost every way it can be, with no real tricks up its sleeve. If it wanted to get a full playthrough from me, it needed to be more interesting and hook me quickly. Long slow burns can work great, but I need to have the allure of a nice story, or awesome strategy and combat encounters, or fun character development, or, well...anything else. The game is just too bare bones to recommend to anyone but the absolute diehard RPG players who devour everything they can get their hands on. Especially at $15 as of the time of this review, it is simply too expensive. I paid much less during a sale, but I got about 30 minutes of diversion out of it, not even worth it for whatever I paid ultimately.

Nie miały go nawet Wiedźminy. + Mnóstwo przedmiotów i wyposażenia. + Turowa walka. Minimalistyczna, ale nie nuży. + Są wybory w dialogach. + Można zabić każdą postać. + Szybka podróż między miastami + Schludny interfejs. + Brak błędów i problemów technicznych. 8/10
best for rpg lovers like pillars or forgotton realms from the 80's just like warriotrs of the eternal sun from the old days, good format menus and quests.
Antharion is an old-school fantasy RPG game and i am a great fan of RPG-ARPG Hack & Slash game but Antharion will not be one of my favourite little RPG game of the year, definitely not. The game is similar to the serie of Ultima, possibly Avernum serie, the Avadon serie...However, the comparison stop there, because everything about Antharion looks and feel basic and simplistic and is no mean as rich and deep as it's counterparts. From the creation of your characters to the simplicity of the plot, the graphics aren't very attractive and the UI could have been done better. Nothing really stand out in Antharion, nothing that can give the game a little something...a little something more than the other RPG games. It sure gives you the possibility to create and fully customize your party, to enjoy a total freedom to play however you want to go wherever you want and do almost whatever you want but so are most RPG games anyway and many doing it even better. But what really gets me in Antharion is it is plagued with too many technical issues, bad design choices, hassles with UI interactions and most of all, the RNG system is well messed up, Your party's statistics don't seem to actualy have a big influence in it. And to be honest with you, combat system is repetitive and has not much of any strategy involved. Party Creation: -custom build your party, you can distribute your skills points but not your attributes points. -lacking in characters physical, visual selections, it's really basic -party order can't be change during the game. The Game -Minimum animation in the world, i find the graphic quit standard with no attention to details -The mini-map doesn't expand nor can you drag it around. -too many unnecessarily click and drag from left to right up and down in inventory and trading. -Everything other than NPCs want to kill you, rats, crabs, seagulls, come on! they're just harmless animals. -story line not really interesting and quests are dull and lack in depth. -Items poorly designed, at their simplest no details or variety. The Combat System -RNG doesn't work very well, there are raging moments in fights when you cannot believe how bad RNG is, blind rats kill my party in medium/hard mode without a single miss when my team constantly miss or spells fizzle out. -when character with high % hit keep constantly missing, you know that there's something wrong. -tanking makes no sense when enemies can go around you to hit the range characters duh! -when enemies and party are very close, it makes it confusing to see what is where. -No auto health/mana regeneration in non combat mode, you have to eat drink potion or sleep. Overall, Antharion failed in many ways to deliver an interesting RPG game that can provide hours of game play without quickly getting frustrating or boring to death considering the original tag price of £11 it is not worth buying because there are many cheaper and better RPG-ARPG games out there.
I pledged to the kickstarter for this (twice I believe as i think it failed to meet it's goal the first time) and haven't gotten around to it until now. It wasn't worth the wait. I only have 4 hours in the game, but it feels like I've seen what I've needed to. There are no respawning enemies so loot, gold, and experience are in short supply. I'm not a fan of these sorts of game, but Anthjarion feels even worse about it. You have to know to get your Barter and Foraging skill up to be able to get good loot and deals when dealing with the merchants. However, focusing on that means you likely have two characters that might start to fall behind in combat. Then you want thing like Pickpocket (More loot and xp) and Lore (identify stuff). Other than that, it was hard to say what was useful. Magic just seemed so weak for the cost (at least the Black Magic). Archery needs a supply of arrows in a game where money is limited. Nothing even changed in combat either - it was just basic melee/ranged attacks and some variety in magic that didn't really do much). Stats felt so useless. You don't get HP as you level so you need constitution which only gives like 1 HP per point when even the basic rats could do about 10 damage (without good armor) which can still kill you in few hits. This was a frequent problem as Dexterity (which was supposed to help with hit chance) didn't seem useful. While the early game rats, seagulls and such felt like they were hitting 90% of the time for like 1/5 of your health, your guys seemed to miss most of the similar chances (and i thought XCOM 2 was bad with this). Wisdom seemed to be the accuracy stat for magic like Dex was for melee/ranged, yet it felt like I still missed too often which was annoying when it was a needed heal spell that kept failing. The minmap can't be scrolled so you have to guess you are going the right way otherwise you face a lot of backtracking. It also seemed too easy to click the wrong enemy or action (I got frustrated how often I skipped a turn instead of swapping weapons which usually led to unnecessary damage). The story wasn't anything special from what I saw and it sounds like the endings aren't really worth playing for - I don't know what they are, bu tit just sounds like they are more or less open ended. The only thing I can really say as a positive is that I ran in in Linux without any issues.
Wonderful Game Music sounds so good the way you level up quests are good
I was on the fence about rather to buy this game but after playing it I cannot get enough. I have seen many reviews about it being tough and I think that it does have a good amount of challenge to it. I like the fact that the world seems alive with a day night cycle and passing days. Or the fact that you can get a boat and own a house which are features I have not seen talked about before. There are so many little secrets to find and the fact that the map can be vague leads to a lot of exploration for the player. The game gives many options on how to level up. You can go out and fight monsters to level up like you do in many games or you can stay in town and pickpocket every thing that breathes and level up that way as well. I have heard that people were upset about missing a lot of attacks and this is true at first but that is the case with many games that it takes time to get better and as I have leveled up that has not been much of a problem at all. I have been looking for a game that scratches that rpg itch, a game where you never run out of things to do and I think that this one is a gem for that. I hope that the developer makes some more games because this one is really good!
It's better when you can scoop it up for $2 but it's still worth the full price, a nice turn based RPG, nothing more. It does nothing special, nothing revolutionary. It is entirely derivative of 'old school' CRPGs from the late 90s.
Minimalizm urzeka, turowa walka wciąga, eksploracja nagradza. Polecam!
