Anopek is a first-person shooter using a similar engine to Wolfenstein 3d with perpendicular walls and no looking up or down. Considering the engine limitations, the levels are nice enough with bright colors. Very pretty level outside the first area with how the "reflections" were done in the water. A level in the sky was also noteworthy. I liked how the map was done and how the areas were interconnected. The graphics were made with big pixels, too much so for my tastes, especially for the few cinematics. Too few types of monsters who were boring to fight and unoriginal. No death animations either. I often stood there and just shot. As a shooter it fails, but as a Zelda/Metroidvania type exploration game it was kind of fun. Why? Because of the secondary abilities of most of the weapons. You can eventually grapple, glide, break walls and a few other things. The music was pleasant, but no music during boss fights was a big oversight. Anopek is bit tough to recommend for most gamers, but is not without its qualities. It might appeal more to kids because of the low difficulty. But the big pixels and limited 3d engine might turn them off.
Fun little first person metroidvania. It's a short game (I finished it in 2.5 hours) but it's an enjoyable ride, and during deep Steam sales it usually sells for less than 2€ so it was definitely worth its money. While it looks like a Wolf3D clone at first glance, with simplistic flat architecture and no Z-levels, the metroidvania elements elevate it far above your average Wolf3D style FPS. You'll be exploring varied areas, encounter obstacles, and acquire new tools and weapons that allow you to cross them. There are boss fights, some of them optional, and plenty of secrets to discover. The map is very interconnected and you'll enjoy unlocking new paths through it as you discover more and more tools and weapons. There's one that lets you smash brittle wall tiles, one that lets you fly across gaps, one that lets you pass through mirrors, etc. Combat is pretty simple, but the boss fights are a highlight. Each boss has different patterns of attack and defense, and defeating them usually requires some kind of trick. Overall, this is an easy recommendation for anyone who likes metroidvanias.
Very cute lil FPS. Will definitely keep playing this. The intro video was very nostalgic :D
an incredibly fun vibrant Wolf3D like with a focus on exploration and puzzle based bosses
It's... Alright? For a "my first unity project" kind of game? Pros + Decent time killer + Metroidvania elements work I guess + Eventually you get better guns and can quickswitch Doom Eternal style, finally squeezing at least some juice out of it + Cheese bosses by quickswitching them to death in mere seconds Cons - Dumb AI, most enemies are melee-only but can barely navigate - Really bullet spongy too, combat sucks till you get 4-5 weapons - No fast travel (which isn't that bad tbh) - Enemies tend to respawn even without dying/quitting - Just lacks polish here and there (primitive stock fonts etc)
Can't go wrong with ancient egyptian magical shotguns.
