I have to say that when I first started playing Animal Survival I was pleasantly surprised with the game. My first two hours were playing it on stream, and I although I found it a bit challenging at first (I feel like this is a common theme for me at least with Rougelikes/Rougelites) but with some persistence I was able to get a few levels completed and I have achieved my first character unlock! The progression in the game feels good and scales well with the level, there is some challenge with picking the right power-ups to ensure you survive, and with the addition of re-rolls it's adds a bit more depth to ensuring the right build for your animal! Here are my pros and cons if you are on then fence about this game: Pros: - The progression to earn coins, and power-ups while daunting and challenging at first, ends up being really rewarding when you finally get enough coins to purchase new animals and power-ups. - The animals special power-ups suit and fit the animal you are playing as (I.E. the Turtle has a shell spin attack) - The level design and the enemies in the level are well thought out, designed well and implemented with care and forethought to ensure that the area you are in has the right animals. - The Developer is very active, listens to concerns, bug-issues and ideas, and does what they can to fix and implement said issues. - The art style is fantastic and suits the content of the game. Cons, well 1 kind of con and an issue and both will probably be fixed over time: - The biggest issue I currently have is lack of controller support - Is it needs some polish (but like I mentioned the game is very new, and the developer is active and I am sure this will come in time!!) I cannot wait to see what the future holds for Animal Survival, and I will be editing this review as I continue to enjoy the game and issues are resolved!!

I may have received this game for free, but this is a game that I would purchase if I had to. The game has a lot of potential, in it's mechanics and play-style, it's inspired by games like Vampire Survivors which really got my attention, there are a few QoL features that could highly improve the game, but overall, I think if you like Vampire Survivors or Megabonk, you should check this out! You can tell that the dev has put a lot of time and effort into this game, all on their own. Was a pleasure testing this game out today, look forward to seeing the updates in the future!
The developer for this game reached out and asked me to check this out. - At first, the native controls felt a little unintuitive and clunky, but changing the keybinds made it way better for me. - The art style is fairly simplistic and the animations can use some work, but it holds a certain charm. - The music and sound effects are endearing. - The core gameplay loop seems to have a solid foundation, providing a strong framework for a traditional roguelike. For how simple the game presents itself, the challenge level seems pretty high, even on Easy, which makes progression feel all the more rewarding. Overall, I think this is definitely a game worth checking out. Hopefully we'll see a community Discord in the future where we can interact together as players and share feedback with the developer to help them grow the game further.
