Android Hunter A is like if that one dude from class with an unhealthy obsession with Mega Man X made a game, but without understanding what made Mega Man X work. It's actually a bit impressive how much went wrong. It doesn't look good, sound good, or play good. It fails to understand Mega Man X the way that successors like 30XX and Azure Striker Gunvolt understood. The game's trying to bite off more than it can chew visually, with environments that use real-time reflections, normal maps, and characters with clashing art direction design like cartoony eyes and hair poorly mixed with realistic lighting. . Dude just pick 4 or so colors and keep it all stylized, honestly. Stay away from using normal maps and high poly visuals if it's difficult to pull off, players like myself aren't interested in 8k textures and ultra-high definition visuals, give me style, get me something I'll remember. Gameplay is trying its best to immitate Mega Man X but just can't quite pull it off, it technically works but it's flat and never pops the way it should. Controls aren't terrible just lacking in a way that's hard to describe. The game has a general lack of polish and care that you get in better titles of the same budget range; dynamic camera movements, smooth transitions, jank-less animation. Nothing has to be perfect, but it can definitely be better. It all feels so undercooked, with toppings that don't go together and the icing is absolutely past date. Instead of trying to bake an entire cake, I wish this team tried just making some cookies. I get it, you wanted to make the full cake, with the layers and the perfectly laid icing and the fun sprinkles but I like simple chocolate chip cookies too.
I am a huge fan of the Mega man series, especially the X series. When I saw this game in development I followed it closely and with great anticipation, and when i was able to finally get it i was let down. There are many issues with the game. First is art style. the Intro scenes are not very well drawn and looks like the were taken from the story board directly. As the game progresses you noticed with the exception of A and a few others all the androids look the same. Second is the game play. The stages are dull and repetitive. its basically go right jump a few platforms maybe go back left. there are not many enemies in each area which means the majority of your time is spent dashing and jumping. Speaking of jumping lets talk about A's movement. In the X series there was a sort of weighted feeling with the way X and zero moved. they were agile, but you could control them. A is at times feeling as if he is weightless. he doesn't jump very high but he tends to jump far and he dashes like fast. the issue with this is it makes judging jumps to avoid boss attacks and one hit kill traps difficult. Then there is the special weapons. Much like the mega man and the X series, you get special weapons from the bosses, however finding the weapon that's effective is not only a chore, but when you DO find the right weapon, it barely does any more damage than your buster, and the special weapons eat through energy like it starving man at an all you can eat buffet. Its more effective to just use your buster and rage attacks. Rage attacks oh yes! the one mechanic that would have been interesting except in its execution. i order to charge your rage meter, you need to A not take damage and B dash and wall climb, in fact wall climbs are the most effective way to charge your rage. once charged you have two options: press the left trigger which makes A faster and take less damage for short period of time, or press the right trigger and fire your rage attack. this is nice because while hes firing hes invulnerable, and if you can hit a boss with it, it does a significant amount of damage. Issue is if you have it at ready and take damage, unless you start wall climbing right after it starts draining your rage meter. You would think taking damage would help increase it, but I digress. Finally we have the frivolous customization. I'm all for being able to bling your character out, however the options are very VERY limited and most of them are rather dull. I wanted to like this game so much, but even the 5 bucks i paid for it was too much. the game has been out for a while and ive seen some patches done, but the game feels like a beta test and not a final product.
I started playing it but when I got to a few parts I found some glitched areas in the first level where I fell threw the floor when I was like 5 pixels lower then the floor. (I was air dashing from a pit) sorry but can't recoment till its been fixed.
i waited for this game for awhile. it seems like alot of effort was put into this and went over board. the controls cannot be fully remapped so those of the that LB dash and RB jump like in the zero series cant do that. lots of pretty effects but the actual amount of level design is is pretty barren. might jump over a car , maybe two if youre feling frisky. over all character speed is too high as you only need to really dash to clear a few ledges. i bought this game a while abck and refunded it. decided to pick it up again now that its 2$ and i jsut cant bring my self to actually play it agaIn.
