«Amelon»
Amelon is a bizarre low-budget indie title set in a future where replacing body parts with mechanical parts is common practice. You play as Amelon, a cyborg, who aims to… well, I’m not sure what his purpose is actually. Despite the clear effort put in by the solo developer, the game is quite buggy and is not particularly fun to play.
Positive:

Impressive amount of features for a solo-developer. While there are a lot of flaws in the game, I can appreciate the effort Pjural made to introduce variety. The helicopter segment, for example, was quite good (although it was very difficult to control).

Neutral:

It is clear that the voice actors are not native English speakers. However, considering the low-budget, I can live with this. What bothered me more was that the subtitles don’t always match the what is being said. I imagine this isn’t difficult to fix.
I would like to see some improvement in the main menu. For example, when selecting the language for the subtitle (Polish or English), it would be nice if there was some sort of indicator to which one was chosen. As it currently is, you just have to click on the language and hope that it worked. I’d also like to see the addition of display and audio options in-game.
The addition of shortcuts, like pressing “i” to open the item menu, and key remapping would be nice as well.
I found movement awkward. As it currently is, the horizontal directional keys cause Amelon to rotate clock- or anti-clockwise. This, combined with the fixed camera (which can be manually rotated) often caused me to bump into objects and struggle with precise movement. I would have preferred it if the direction Amelon is facing is determined by the mouse pointer and the horizontal directional keys would cause him to strafe instead of rotate. I find that this would improve movement fluidity tremendously.
I managed to get out of bounds. See screenshots here: Out of bounds 1, out of bounds 2.

Negative:

Very bizarre choice in music. “Oh you touch my tralala” song, nyan cat theme, “sittin’ on the toilet” lady, and the song Brook plays in One Piece are just some of the pieces I came across. It’s a very random collection of pop culture references that honestly seem out of place. I’m not sure how I should react to this.
I found the hospital segment very confusing, it took me a while before I realized what had to be done. I don’t think the game should expect the player to press the help/guidance to progress - the instructions should be given in a more natural way.
I’m pretty sure the save/load function is bugged. If I save, perform an action with an NPC, and then load, the action will be carried through. To counter this, I have to save, exit the game, and then load. Furthermore, when I returned to the game (after not playing for some time) I found more bugs. For example, when I enter a certain area, I get a pop-up saying I don’t have the map for that area (even though I do and can clearly see it on the map), and I had to redo some quests.
I found that the game was very monotone - the colour palate was basically different shades of brown and grey. While this is probably intentional, to set the tone of the game, it gets very tiresome to look at it for long periods of time. It doesn’t help that most of the map is essentially empty desert.
I reached a point in the game where there was no clear objective. Since there is no quest log (or something similar) I was unsure of how to progress. Basically I drove around talking to NPCs to see what could be done. After 30 minutes of aimless driving I decided to stop. It simply wasn’t worth my time.

Conclusion:

★✬☆☆☆ Needs more work
I’m a big supporter of solo/low-budget developers. Game development is not an easy process, especially if you’re doing most of it alone. Having said that, I appreciate the time and effort into making Amelon. It is quite clear that Pjural was experimenting with many game elements and techniques. Good job in that regard. However, at the same time, Amelon feels very unfinished - it felt more like a developer’s experimental bucket of ideas rather than a complete game. I usually try to finish the game before reviewing it, but because of the bugs, lack of a clear objective, and aimless wandering, I lost interest. Amelon was not worth the time I invested in it.
I have no idea what to think about Amelon. I mean that in a good way, I think. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b93Yz_eZMYg&t=30m50s This game is one of the weirdest experiences I've ever had. It's an exploration game with a heavy emphasis on story, but the entire game feels like you are in somebody elses dream world. The gameplay revolves around moving your robot to different areas on a map, getting some upgrades to move faster, but mostly you will be interacting with environments and talking to the various denizens of the robotic wasteland. Mostly you will be exploring, solving a few puzzles and doing some branching dialogue. I feel like the developer put a lot of effort into Amelon. It's obvious they are still learning due to how broken and janky many aspects are, but in this specific case it almost added to my experience. The translated dialogue and voiceovers are bad, really bad. It sounds like the developer and a couple friends recorded it in their bedrooms and used Google Translate to get an English script. The audio levels are all over the place and everyone sounds the same. There are many parts of the game that look unfinished, some animated cutscenes are more like visual storyboards and there are objects in the game entirely missing part of the render at the back. It's difficult to comprehend the story, but from what I understand you are trying to recover some old memories and you used to be human but humanity went all Deus Ex and upgraded themselves out of their own body. There are a lot of unexpected memes in the game that took me by surprise. I almost think the developer put them in their to say that after humanity is over, weird stuff on the internet remains but who knows. I am concerned about whether the developer has the rights to use some of these, particularly songs like "Friday". It's a weird scenario. There's also an option to do a robot fart inside a post-apocalyptic theatre which I greatly enjoy. Amelon is just so freaking weird that I oddly have to recommend it if you want a surreal experience and can handle extreme jank. It's almost fascinating.
Fabuła i rozgrywka
PS2: CZEMU TU JEST TYLE BŁĘDÓW ?! zapraszam luknąć do opisu mojej grupy Aga i my ;) wtedy zrozumisz
Interesting gameplay. You can finish the game in about two hours. Some typo's and the voice acting is a bit lacking. Multiple endings, though I only tried one. The rover was annoying but I got through it. This isnt a game that was created in a few hours and for that and supporting indies i give it a 4/10. Lots of puzzles, pictures, building. Everything is just as you see in the discription. The developer was very up front about what the game is and what its not.
Ta gra to więcej niż kilka plików wgranych na komputer To miłość do tworzenia gier, pierwsze dziecko swego stworzyciela. Piękna opowiueść o trudach życia i romantycznych momentach istnienia. PLUSY: + polska wersja językowa + własny pomysł + fabuła + zróżnicowany świat + gra zrobiona z pasji MINUSY: - grałem zbyt krótko aby jakikolwiek dostrzec POLECAM
The game looks very promising. I had a chance to play it before it was released. The staff working on this game actually consisted of only one person, that is the creator. The voice actors heard in this game are bunch of his friends, so you can see it's not a random cheap game, but took a lot of effort to create. For Pjural's first game it's really worth trying. Simple, but somehow emotional story will surely keep you in place. Playtime can be pretty short, but I wouldn't consider this as a disadvantage. There are plenty of easter eggs, not sure if I discovered every one of them. So, to summarise: a short but touching story, a lone robot trying to change the sector D, a good soundtrack. I would give it 8 out of 10.
I was given this game by the developer to review. This has been the first game that I've been given through the Steam Curator Connect that wasn't one of those awful 'Get 1,000 achievements' games. So I decided to give it a shot. Now, straight off the bat I should say that this is a one man project created by a Polish dev. So you should keep that in mind when you play this game. Now the story starts off with a short cutscene and some dialogue explaining that bionics have become prevalent and that people want cheaper and cheaper bionics that have caused greater and greater piles of rubbish. Called Sector D. You live in Sector D as one of the humans(?) that have adopted bionics. From there the game starts up and you are given a short tutorial on how to move, how to earn money and how to build. Now, frankly there's no real point to building or money unless you're going for a couple of the achievements. You can build Amelons which are used to dig up rubbish that has buried under the surface and you can trade that rubbish in for money. That can then be used to build more Amelons or to buy a car. The problem is you get a car from pretty much the second quest after you finish the tutorial for free and from that point on you no longer need to worry about money. From there you do a bunch of loosely related quests. Now this is a game made by a Polish dev and as such English is a secondary language. This does show as a number of words are misspelt and there are numerous grammatical issues in game as well as some words not being translated from Polish at all. The VA's speaking English are okay-ish. They do the job well enough for a one man indie project. They're not the worst thing in the world but they could be better. This does also lead to some issues with subtitles. You're given an option to play with Polish or English subtitles but half the characters don't have subtitles and the ones that do, the subtitles don't match. As you play through the game, you'll get cutscenes and some of them are actually pretty alright. I was a fan of the pencil drawings used for cutscenes and I think that if you put a little more time into the pencil drawn cutscenes and put a little more detail into them, maybe have a Voice Over on the cutscenes then you could have something really unique. It's something to keep in mind for your next project. Besides the hand drawn cutscenes, the other things I liked about this gane was that the game obviously has some heart into the game. I was interested in learning about the world, why did people want these bionics? Why did everybody decide to live in Sector D? What are the other sectors like? All of these questions are never really answered. So better world building would be nice. You do learn a bit about your character through the flashback cutscenes. He's an orphan and he appears to of had a vehicle collision which is why he got the bionic legs. Now, unfortunately there is a number of issues I had with this game. There are various TV's scattered around the game world and they have little news articles on them that gives a little bit of backstory, unfortunately they play 'meme music' Things like that Nyan Cat theme, Touch my Talala, my ding ding dong and there's also one of a Youtuber shouting 'Sitting on the toilet' to an obnoxious degree. I understand having this sort of thing in the game as you're making it, whilst you're developing it as a placeholder if it amuses you but when it comes time to ship the game, don't leave it in. Use some public domain News theme or just some other public domain music. There's also pretty much only one puzzle in this game and it seems to be really buggy. I moved the sliders on the radio. See the click message and then try to click the button but it doesn't work. After many Saves and Loads later, the button eventually works. I had this issue every single time I tried to do this puzzle. Incredibly frustrating. The game is also very short. I did get about 4 hours out of the game but I had to restart the game once right before the end due to me clipping out of the map and I also went for all the achievements. There's a section where you have to control a drone and frankly. There's no control, I could've fallen asleep on the keyboard and the thing would've controlled just as well as if I was trying my best to control it. I appreciate the fact that you tried something else, gave something else to do besides just walking and driving around but the controls are awful. Some of the props in the game don't make any sense, I came across a guy leaning up against a giant box of machine gun ammo. So some out of place assets were used. But as I say for a first project. I think it's a good effort and you've obviously got heart and really do want to make a good product. I just think maybe more time spent on the game. More time on translation, maybe look for volunteers, people will do that stuff for free or maybe some compensation.
