It was fun to build a house for about an hour until it crashed my computer.

The game evokes a wide range of emotions.
"Alterworld" is a blatant, low-effort clone of Minecraft (Copyright Microsoft/Wojang/Notch, 2009). It seems some "amateur" developers think copyright laws are optional, choosing to ripoff games from real developers without conscience. This one is even less ambitious than Minecraft, which makes people wonder, why do amateur developers see someone else's game, try to rip it off but worse because they aren't qualified to develop such games, and then publish them on Steam Direct? Having a worse version of Minecraft isn't something gamers want. And wow, this really is deficient compared to Minecraft. The use of voxels is cludgy and the game looks awful (and Minecraft already looks bad, there's a reason the most popular mods for Minecraft are attempts to fix the visuals). Beyond the obvious ethical and creative bankruptcy involved stealing other people's game ideas, they failed the basic rule of game design: if you are going to rip off someone else's game, you have to at least try to improve on it. Instead, "Alterworld" is much worse than the original Minecraft. The developers gave up on this 8 months ago. It's destined to remain unfinished. This junkware is just polluting Steam and making it difficult for gamers to fully finished, completed games. That's not good for gamers. This features lazy low-polygon voxel "Minecraft"-like "art", making this look like a barely functional 3D game from the 1990s. A lot of amateur developers see Minecraft's success and assume it's because it looks bad, not because it had unique and appealing game mechanics, and they try to emulate the success without understanding it. It also happens to be easy, and doesn't need any proper talent in terms of game development/graphic artists etc. That's why reviewers are faced with so many of these terrible games with confrontingly bad graphics. Developers must learn that Minecraft succeeded despite the bad graphics, not because of them. Now onto pricing and value. This is "free" enough (not every "free" game in the "free" section is truly free, there's usually some hidden price tag), at least you won't be expected to spend any more money after you download this, but just because something is free doesn't mean it's good, and the cost of a game is more than just financial, your time is valuable too. Even as a free game, this couldn't find an audience. With a peak of only 2 players, it's clear the Steam community took one look and walked away. They literally couldn't pay people to spend time playing this. This "free" game won't count toward your game collection count on your profile. With that in mind, is it something you should still download? I can't recommend this. I didn't have to pay for this, but I still feel almost as ripped off as Notch.
