All Scars and Starlight

This is such a beautiful, sickeningly tragic story. The visuals are equally stunning, and the bonus chapter has some of the best writing I've seen in the genre, period. If the themes at all interest you, you owe it to yourself to play this.

I'm obsessed with the story, love Yuel

I am a big fa of Ebi-Hime and their games, and this one is no different! While I am aware there are other stories involving Yuel and Tavi, this is the first visual novel I had read that had them both in it. Should I have read the other ones first? Maybe. But this was still a very good experience. The storytelling for this is done very well (just like in all of Ebi-Hime's other VNs). Between the political representation of the environment the story takes place in and the visceral emotions that drive both Tavi and Yuel, I feel like this story mostly had me sitting on the edge of my seat. Everything was connected and had its place, and while this VN is one of the darker ones I had read recently, everything was written very well and the story was overall very inclusive. There were some parts I struggled to read through simply because it was more political background information for the story, but it is necessary information that I appreciate having included. Now, this is not a story for the faint-hearted and does include more mature themes which Ebi-Hime has made a warning about for this game. Considering that, I still think that this was very well written and I enjoyed getting to go through it and read through the dialogue and emotions surrounding both Tavi and Yuel. Because of how much I enjoyed this, I'm sure I'll be just as delighted to read the other VNs about these two and see what has changed between them. The art style for this VN is absolutely incredible. The linework and the coloring makes the characters appear softer, especially Yuel (I love the way his hair was colored and the way everything is hilighted) and it really puts emphasis on how young these characters are and what burdens they hold on their shoulders. The artist that did this did fantastic with the facial features, especially between slight facial changes. The slight lines under Yuel's eyes to depict he's defeated and tired really sold it for me. But I inherently loved how the lighting affected the characters, especially how Yuel's hair is highlighted to brighten his eyes and the way Tavi's eyes shine like Yuel's earrings. It really helps drive home the magnitude of the emotions the characters feel because of how well its depicted, especially for how young they are. Overall, there is so much I can discuss about this visual novel in particular, and I really loved the love and care that was put into the story. It is a standard I have come to love from Ebi-Hime's VNs that has made me a die-hard fan. I really recommend reading through this one, though definitely read at your own discretion because of the mature themes that are being depicted in it.

I love Yuel and Tavi, and I recommend all the games about them. This one is the most complex and heart-wrenching. Angst lovers, rejoice! I've reached three of the endings, and I do intend to play the other two (?). One of them was fraught but good in the end, and the other two were tragic, but no less enjoyable. The character development that leads to those endings flows really well. Yuel and Tavi are extremely well crafted characters, flawed but loveable. The art style is lovely, and the writing is beautiful and thoughtful. You really get to feel the mess of thoughts that Tavi has about Yuel. I also enjoyed the music; it really brought the mood and setting to life. This is a great companion to All Ashes and Illusions. Not quite a sequel. More like an alternative universe. A fix-it, if you make the right choices. I look forward to my next playthrough and unlocking more beautiful CGs!
