bought it when it wasnt free
First of all, a word of warning: don't play on the top 2 difficulties unless you want to spend a lot of time looking at the "Retry level" animation, you'll get screwed over by enemy pathing to inconvenient places pretty much every run. Thankfully, you can change difficulty without restrictions and replay levels as you wish, so even if you ignore my advice it's easy to change your mind later. With that said, this is a fantastic fast-paced shooter: the levels are as numerous as they're creative and distinct, the enemies are varied and threatening enough to require different tactics but there's still plenty of room to experiment (no predefined hard counters a la Doom Eternal), your arsenal isn't enormous (4 main weapons + 3 options for the superweapon slot) but each weapon is quite flexible, the level challenges are pretty varied and encourage you to try new tactics and routes, and the soundtrack is great. Worth its full price, and a steal on sale.

All Day Dying is the type of game that you want to continue playing until you reach all objectives. It's fun, addicting, and I can't get enough of it.
"All Day Dying: Redux Edition" is a mediocre low poly minimalist 3D FPS without any story or plot... instead, with a more arcade type goal, you speedrun and score attack through various badly rendered enemies using a variety of weapons and chaining together attacks. Why? There's actually no reason why, and the low quality implementation and directionless design lead this to fail. The visual presentation here is low poly minimalism - a style that sounds considered but in practice means sparse geometry, near-absent detail, and no real artistic ambition. It's the kind of look that results from not having the skills or budget for real 3D art, and then rebranding the limitation as intentional. Contemporary PC gaming sets a high visual bar, and this falls well short of it. This game is fairly dated at 7 years old... and even back then it looked old and busted compared to contemporary, professionally made 3D games of the same period. It looked bad then, it looks worse now. Now on to pricing and value for gamers. There's no initial download price, but the developer was charging $10 USD for this. Price barriers, especially on low quality products, can be a direct cause of failure. It seems like a nice gesture for the game to have no up-front cost anymore, but it also tells us that the game wasn't good enough to succeed as a paid product. This is also a bit of a slap in the face to anyone who showed enough questionable judgement to pay money for this... nobody got refunded. Despite having no up-front cost, this failed to appeal to the 130 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB shows this peaked at only 11 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. This "free" game won't count toward your game collection count on your profile. With that in mind, is it something you should still download? I can't suggest people should download this, there's too many quality issues. Games don't exist in a vacuum... PC gamers have thousands of better options over this. There are over 140,000 games on Steam, not every one of them is a hidden gem. I'm here to help gamers find the ones that actually matter in that sea of Steam Direct self-published mess. If you don't agree with my findings in this review, you should definitely download it and play it to see for yourself. I'm happy to have helped you make an informed choice, regardless of the outcome. You deserve the best. The developer stuffed this game with 95 achievements, which is textbook achievement spam. When a game's primary selling point is a pile of trivial, auto-unlocking achievements rather than the quality of the game itself, that tells you everything you need to know about how much thought went into actually making something worth playing.
