Back then we didn't have many free to play multiplayer games. We didn't even have internet, only computers and games we bought on discs at the market. When you have multiplayer game but no internet, you could still have some fun just by creating empty server in CS/HLDM/UT/Quake and adding some bots to play with. Usually these bots were pretty stupid, so to spice it up we made more rules for ourrselves, like having to use only one weapon, or kill this number of bots within time limit, or do all of that and also not die a single time. You can still see some videos with challenges like these on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kzsWcYwxdjA This game resembles all this stuff. It plays kinda like multiplayer game with bots, there are many optional challenges, you can do as many as you like, each one gives you some points, the more points you have the more mappacks you unlock. Do all challenges on one specific map and you also unlock some mutator or cheat. Difficulty levels change the amount of mistakes you allowed to make per run. Gameplay is very addictive and gunplay is satisfying. Graphics has this ascetic type of beauty, which is good for budget pcs and gives clean visual look without distracting you from gameplay. First chapter's sountrack is kinda cheap so most people will probably turn it to mute and won't see how much better music gets in the second and third chapters. Overall game sure worth it's money and delivers some high quality entertainment for about 15-20 hours if you just want to get to the ending and credits screen, and some more if you want to get all the highscores and optional objectives/secrets on all maps. If you get to the ending, you'll see the behind the scenes video, which will show how game went through development process, which is some forgotten nowadays thing along with cheatcodes and such soulful oldschool gamedev stuff.
a game so good you wish you could write 4 positive reviews for it. the design and polish is immaculate. oozing with influence, an arcade score system. there is really nothing negative I can say. paulo lopes is surely out there doing great things, whether that is intercourse with his partner or making more games, he is either instantly hired somewhere big or leading a charge somewhere else. the immediate influence I felt was virtua cop style threat system, stay in line of sight long enough and you will get hit, deal with the threat or lose line of sight quickly and I don't know if I want to credit trespasser with free aim because there are other examples but its possible it was the first. according to the giant bomb thing I found about this game I guess it was a cheat closer to release but once things finalized it looks like its now a menu option. I turned it on because I love free aim but it does make the game quite a bit harder, there is an aiming ability when using free aim akin to goldeneye, plants you and you get a cursor crosshair to move around. game is probably a bit easier with free aim off. if I were to complain it would be that this game never got some basic infinite style horde mode or whatever and if we had a level editor and workshop this games legacy would be entirely cemented. we would have entire speedrun communities not just around single maps but the entire universe of possible maps that would open the game up to. oh well. give it a whirl whatever it's free. when thinking about this game I always confuse the title with get to the orange door, its the aesthetic and similar verbage. pretty different games though
