Get this AI slop off of Steam!
Warning: AI Slop This e-book is partially or completely made with talentless, soulless AI generated content.
Aliya's Ascent is not a game, it's an e-book that's been dumped on Steam masquerading as a game. As a visual/interactive novel, this doesn't feature any notable gameplay, it's just a lot of clicking through badly written dialogue that would never have been accepted or published in print, which poses the question, "How did something this badly written end up on Steam?". When someone hoping to become an author is unable to get published in print, they spend $100 and dump their high school fan-fiction onto Steam, under the guise of a game. As the title warning says, e-book is partially or completely made with AI slop, although prompted by the "author" so it's all about his imaginary girlfriend. I've seen a lot of godawfully bad things on Steam, but this could be the worst. Visual novels/e-books are tedious at best... imagine the best novel you ever read, be that Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy or 2001: A Space Odyssey or Twilight (if you have terrible taste in literature), but then translate that to a format where the words dribble out and you have to click your mouse every time you wanted to read the next sentence, instead of just turning the pages. You'd think it was garbage. Now imagine that experience, but with much worse writing (because if these guys could write professionally, they'd be published authors and this would be on shelves in bookstores, and they wouldn't have to pay Valve $100 to self-publish this on Steam), and you have your average Steam e-book. One of the chief problems with failed authors polluting Steam with non-game E-books is that E-books can easily just be presented in a web browser... there's no justification for charging money on Steam for what might as well be a webpage. We don't spend thousands on buying a gaming rig to spend money on Steam for something Chrome or Firefox could do. Even though this is "free", it failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the e-book peaked at only 3 concurrent readers... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. The funny thing is, if you wanted to print this book, you'd only need to print 3 copies to satsify the entire world's demand for it. While this E-book is "free", you can get better quality, professionally written books and comics for free online (from places like Project Gutenberg) or from public libraries. Steam isn't a comic book store, neither is it Netflix, it's for games. Your gaming rig is not a Kindle. It's impossible for me to recommend things to PC gamers that aren't really games. The extensive use of anti-creative AI slop here is an insult to everyone.
Mixed. Only recommended if you love Visual Novels. This is strangely animated (reminds my of Artifex Mundi) with a quirky and inconsistent art style. The voice acting is very flat, like robotic with a human synthesizer mixed in. The storytelling technique is seemingly out of a children's book by explicitly telling you what you see. As an introduction to a story, it does its job. However, if this is more than just a concept, it needs quite a lot of polish. Короткая визуальная новелла с нейро-озвучкой и сюжетом который резко обрывается. Ультра коротко и супер неинтересно.
One of the weirdest, uncanny games I have ever regrettably played. Why did I even try it? I have no clue. Curiosity got the best of me (as usual). On the flip side, now I know this is a big N-O on the type of game people shouldn't be replicating or experimenting with.
I've been giving games the benefit of the doubt lately as I plow through to review them off my bucket list, but for this one? Screw it. I reserve the right to be picky. The seemingly interesting art and story are ruined by annoyingly monotonous voice acting and writing. It seems to be set in a universe made to take itself seriously but is interspersed with ridiculously meme-ish lines and mindsets- for example, Aliyah, fresh off what seems to be a slave boat going to a garden and seeing butterflies fighting. Specifically, "battling", as in a Pokemon battle. Not only is this way out of left field for what had seemed for a moment like it would be a believable garden, but she excitedly- well, excitedly as she can get with this god-awful AI-grown voice of hers- praises it. And if there was any doubt, it's sealed by the inclusion of an irritating rap track in the credits. The fantasy setting and would-be plot of being an amnesiac fresh off a slave boat does not match with this at all. I have scoured talk about this VN and it seems that Aliyah is overwhelmingly made by AI, to the gleeful boasting of its "makers". This explains why the visuals in this game, from the art everywhere to the tweened puppet animations, somehow manage to be both very vibrant and very, heartwrenchingly unsatisfying. I don't recommend this. AT all. AT least not unless you want a splash of cold water to the face on how ghastly empty AI's creations are, and just what hollow abominations come of it being the foremost creator rather than a side-tool to help the creation process. Looking at this review, I get that I'm so shaken up by this I'm irrational as I clack. More than normal, even. But I stand by what little I've managed to sputter out through the way Aliyah's Ascent makes me feel. If I'm thought less of for this by anyone reading, so be it.
This is so weird. This game is part of the 7-part bridgeworld novel in the treasure ecosystem? This is the first game the dev published and the second one is some AI DOGE ♥♥♥♥. I don't know what the heck the treasure ecosystem is supposed to be. Anyway, using AI to animate characters like this is really unsettling. The voice acting is crap too. Maybe I should go read a book if I'm going to download this nonsense off steam
Kendi hikayemizi kendimizin yarattığı güzel bir macera oyunu şahsen benim hoşuma gitti.
