This game was actually way more fun than it had any right to be. The dialogue is hilarious and it actually plays like a really bada$$ arcade game. Even if you aren't political it plays like a really fun, comedy Arcade game! The music was actually really awesome as well!
Fortuantely, Alex Jones is still in debt even if this game hits 100 million sales.
Alex Jones: NWO Wars is a retro-inspired side-scrolling action game developed and published by NWO Wars Team. Rather than presenting a conventional military shooter or science-fiction adventure, it embraces a deliberately exaggerated premise built around conspiracy theories, satire, and internet humor. The game makes no attempt to appeal to everyone, instead focusing on players who enjoy old-school arcade gameplay mixed with absurd storytelling and tongue-in-cheek references. Its commitment to this unusual concept gives it a distinctive identity that separates it from many indie action titles, even if its subject matter is bound to be polarizing. At its core, the game delivers classic run-and-gun gameplay reminiscent of arcade favorites from previous decades. Players fight through a variety of side-scrolling stages filled with enemies, environmental hazards, and fast-paced combat encounters that reward sharp reflexes and constant movement. The controls are intentionally simple, allowing newcomers to jump into the action without a lengthy learning process while still offering enough challenge for experienced players. As the campaign progresses, enemy patterns become more demanding, encouraging players to learn attack timings and improve their performance with each attempt. The level design reflects the game's over-the-top narrative by taking players through imaginative environments inspired by fictional conspiracies and secret organizations. Underground bunkers, mysterious laboratories, and heavily guarded facilities create a steady stream of visually distinct stages that keep exploration engaging. While the environments follow a straightforward progression, the developers use detailed pixel artwork, colorful backgrounds, and dynamic effects to give each area its own personality. The result is a campaign that maintains visual variety even though it remains rooted in traditional side-scrolling design principles. Combat is further enhanced by a diverse selection of enemies and memorable boss encounters. Standard opponents attack in different ways, requiring players to adapt instead of relying on repetitive strategies, while bosses introduce larger-scale battles with unique attack patterns that test positioning, timing, and patience. These encounters provide satisfying climactic moments throughout the adventure and help prevent the gameplay from becoming monotonous. The gradual increase in difficulty creates a rewarding sense of progression without becoming unfairly punishing for players willing to learn enemy behavior. Visually, the game embraces a nostalgic pixel-art style that successfully captures the look and feel of classic 16-bit action games. Character animations are expressive, explosions are energetic, and weapon effects provide satisfying feedback during combat. The soundtrack complements the frantic gameplay, while the inclusion of extensive voice work featuring Alex Jones gives the experience a distinctive personality. These voice performances reinforce the game's comedic and satirical tone, ensuring that its unusual premise remains present throughout the campaign instead of being confined to cutscenes or dialogue sequences. Replayability comes primarily from the game's arcade philosophy. Players who enjoy improving their completion times, mastering levels, and overcoming increasingly difficult challenges will likely find reasons to revisit the campaign. The developers have also indicated plans for additional content, including bonus stages and extra playable characters, which could further expand the experience over time. Although the game is not built around deep progression systems or branching narratives, its emphasis on skill-based gameplay encourages repeated playthroughs. Despite its entertaining mechanics, the game's highly specific theme will naturally limit its audience. Much of the humor depends on familiarity with conspiracy culture, political satire, and internet memes, meaning some players may find the jokes amusing while others may feel disconnected from the presentation. Fortunately, beneath the controversial premise lies a competent retro shooter with responsive controls, enjoyable action, and polished presentation. Even players who are indifferent to the game's satire may still appreciate its solid gameplay foundation if they enjoy classic arcade-style experiences. Overall, Alex Jones: NWO Wars succeeds by confidently embracing its niche rather than attempting to satisfy every type of player. Its combination of fast-paced run-and-gun action, nostalgic visuals, entertaining boss fights, and unapologetically bizarre premise creates an experience that stands out in the indie marketplace. While its humor and subject matter are undoubtedly divisive, the quality of its gameplay demonstrates genuine appreciation for classic arcade design. Fans of retro action games looking for something unconventional may find it surprisingly enjoyable, provided they understand exactly the kind of experience the game is aiming to deliver. Rating: 8/10
