This is one of a few games on Steam that appears to be inspired primarily by the classic arcade game Rastan Saga, which is nice for me because I love that game. Aleesha's Tower doesn't come close to that level of greatness, but it's a decent attempt and I enjoyed it for the brief amount of time it took me to beat it. There are 6 stages in the game with each of them having 2 sections and a boss fight at the end. When you die, you restart at the beginning of the current section or boss fight. Combat is very simple - there is only one standard attack and no upgrades other than a few Castlevania-like sub-weapons, but they aren't very powerful and after the first couple of stages I basically forgot about them. You can also block weaker attacks with your shield. The game's main strength is enemy variety and level design. Every stage has 3 to 5 completely unique enemies, except for the final stage which uses reskins. All the enemies use different attack patterns, which is great. This is also where the biggest problem is though: The game gives you a giant health bar that refills at the start of every section, plus occasional health tokens to pickup. So all that time they spent working on those enemies is kind of wasted. Out of about 20 to 25 deaths I had before reaching the end of the game, none of them was to any of the standard enemies, only to the various pits and traps in the game or to the bosses. The levels are mostly even mixes of platforming and combat. All enjoyable to me with no dull areas anywhere. The final climb of the tower at the end of the game was particularly satisfying. There are a few difficult areas where you'll get repeatedly knocked into the same pit, but I feel that is part of the appeal of the genre. I never got so frustrated that I wanted to quit. The art is nice, and again each stage is unique except for the final stage. There are opening and closing cutscenes but no other story elements during the game itself. The music is disappointing. Only the boss theme really stood out to me. The rest of it is forgettable at best. If this cost any more than $5 I wouldn't recommend it, primarily because of it being too easy and having minimal replay value (achievements and maybe some kind of scoring with leaderboards would've really helped). It's solid enough though, and if you're a fan of this type of arcade game with slower, more deliberate melee combat, I would suggest giving it a try.
Fun little side scrolling action game, definitely worth a buy. Reminds me a lot of Rastan as I grew up playing that game a lot on the SMS. Keep in mind, this game is quite challenging, mainly because of the kickback if you get hit, like the original Castlevania and Ninja Gaiden had. This will result in a lot of deaths, but this game is slower paced so it gives you time to think where and when to jump, attack etc. It's all made by one person and I think they did a great job with it. All the pixel art is simple but nicely done. Music is ok. Controls good and worked fine with a controller. Nice small variety of enemies and the bosses all have different patterns which is a huge plus. Levels are laid out well too. It would be great if dev added achievements and when sales goals are met- trading cards later on.
Genre
Ein 2D Action Sidescroller/Plattformer
Story
Short, miserable, basic platformer. Don't waste your time with it.
- Slow and stiff controls with poor feedback to your actions, - Awful sound design consisting of shallow lifeless music and ear-destroying sound effects. - Typos immediately out of the gate in the opening cut-scene I'm guessing due to the developer's first language not being English. Makes the dodgy Rastan games look like masterpieces but, for a $2.99 indie game, at least it's functional. I'm probably being harsh but, hey, I call'em like I see'em.
It's an o.k. game. can be played in free time. controls are simple. Not super challenging but bosses take a lot of hits the last boss wasn't the hardest. Overall a good side scroller time killer. Not much story; if you require a story then stay a way. An opening and a 2 sentence ending.
Not to be too harsh on a game made by just one guy, but this one is too simplistic for seasoned gamers of action RPGs and too boring for new players who may want to try the genre out. That's not to say it isn't hard at times, as this game has one fatal flaw that makes it more irritating than anything in the world: when you're on a rope and enemies hit you, you fly into a pit and die instantly. There are no checkpoints and this happens constantly, so expect to restart over and over due to bad level design. Beyond that this game is actually very easy, being a mock Castlevania clone with overly simplistic graphics and a guy with a sword and a shield that can actually be used to block. The levels are pretty dull, but the boss fights are pretty varied. The only really hard one is the final boss. The bosses take 60-70 hits to kill but you don't see their health bar so expect to get frustrated either wondering when the battle is going to end or keeping count in your head. With that said, the game might have been a lot of effort for one person but compared to games like the original NES, SNES and Gameboy Advance Castlevanias it's just not very good. I never used the special items because you lose all of them if you die. There are no lives so you can restart the bosses infinitely until you win, and most of the enemies are better dealt with by jumping over their heads and running away.
Nota 8/10

Review

Fiz gameplay no meu canal: R&Q Gameplays
