Short fun metrovania style platformer would definitely pick it up for a couple of bucks
Tbh it’s an average metroidvania camera does a weird thing sometimes I don’t like some of the animations / sprite design
Short on runtime and perfect an fun evening where you want to satisfaction of playing a full game through. I found the game to be on the easier side with straightforward mechanics. The story is told through the journal entry and your preference on story being delivered in this method may affect your enjoyment of the game.
Decent game, I 100%'ed my save file in about an hour and a half. Platforming is generally tight, puzzles are decent fun. There's a handful of bugs (missing keybinds, the screen snapping around when in a room that isn't quite big enough to fit on screen at once) but generally the game runs fine. The final bossfight is a bit BS, he can just decide to destroy the platforms you need as a vulnerability window is happening to ♥♥♥♥ you over.
I'm fairly sure I got it as part of a bundle, but 99¢ is a pretty fair price as it brings a good amount of enjoyment for the couple hours it lasted. It brings back my nostalgia for flash games, as I do like games that have a shorter format to play trough every now and then. Cons: Pretty short game without much replayability, and you have to tweak your controller setup as it doesn't support it very well.

In general good game, with some minor flaws. It has one or two bugs with getting out of bounds and jumping recognition / being stuck in the wall and the letters are a bit confusing, it feels like they were copied? Nonetheless, its a good game! Im on a quest of at least trying every game in my library, of which I got plenty from all kinds of cheap mass-bundles, others I bought directly, yet others from sites like nivqgames. I'm not sure who this one landed in my library and I was skeptical when I first launched it. It is a very simple game that kept me engaged for a few hours. At a little over $1 it's hard to complain.
Alchemist's Castle is a retro-inspired action-platformer with clear Metroidvania influences. You're tasked with exploring a sprawling castle, battling quirky enemies, and collecting power-ups to progress further and ultimately confront the titular alchemist. It's a game that wears its old-school inspirations on its sleeve, offering a challenging but rewarding experience for fans of classic platformers. The gameplay is focused on tight platforming, combat with a variety of weapons, and exploration of interconnected levels. As you explore, you'll discover new abilities that allow you to reach previously inaccessible areas, a hallmark of the Metroidvania genre. This encourages backtracking and thorough exploration, as you'll often find secrets and upgrades hidden in previously visited locations. The pixel art style is charming and evokes a sense of nostalgia for classic games of the past. The level design, while sometimes challenging, is generally well-crafted and encourages skillful movement and precise jumps. The enemy designs are also quite creative, with a variety of foes that require different strategies to defeat. However, Alchemist's Castle isn't without its drawbacks. The difficulty can be quite unforgiving at times, which might frustrate some players. The lack of a detailed map can also make navigation a bit challenging, especially in the later stages of the game. Additionally, while the retro aesthetic is charming, some might find it a bit too simplistic. Pros: Solid platforming and combat mechanics! 🤸 Charming retro pixel art style! 👾 Metroidvania-style exploration and progression! 🗺️ Creative enemy designs! 👹 Challenging but rewarding gameplay! 💪 Cons: Can be quite difficult! 💀 Lack of a detailed map can make navigation tricky! 🧭 Visuals might be too simplistic for some! 🖼️ Verdict: 7/10. Alchemist's Castle is a decent retro-inspired Metroidvania that offers a challenging and rewarding experience for fans of classic platformers. While the difficulty and lack of a map might be off-putting for some, the solid gameplay mechanics, charming visuals, and satisfying exploration make it a worthwhile experience for those seeking a nostalgic challenge. 🏰 Disclaimer: These reviews are based on my personal experience and opinions.
