The best game I've ever played. When it died so did I.
I am a 45 yo father, probably one of the oldest people playing this game. I am a single father to my Son, who is 14 now. My son got this game from his uncle, so we installed it on his computer and he started playing. By the end of the week he had 24 hours on this game. This was horrible for me, as it was already hard for me to find ways to spend time with my son, as he is always out with his friends or just watching YouTube. So I decided to make a Steam account and get this game to see if I could maybe play alongside him. I loaded into the game, picked my character and world and started playing but I was stuck on what you where supposed to do. I asked my Son for help and he hosted a game for me to join. I loved it as it was the best time I had spent with my Son since my wife had died. This game has ever since brought me and my son closer again and now we actually spend time together outside the house together as well. This game reminded me that there's fun to be had in everything, and it has brought both me and my Son many happy memories.
Overview

Play as Vikings (Red team) or Buccaneers (Blue team).
Engage in mid-air battles aboard airships armed with cannons.
The side with the most ship kills wins when timer runs out.

Gameplay ★★★★☆

Players spawn in their home base which is nothing but a medieval airship dock. Board one and take to the skies with a small crew, or propel yourself through the air with a glider to reinforce existing airships in flight.
A ship's crew consists of a Captain who steers it, Cannoneers who handle combat, and Supports who are responsible for defense and repairs.
Mid-air combat that isn't a highspeed flight sim but actual solid footing on slow-sailing hot air balloons is quite an interesting game experience.
There is no tutorial, and the manual has barely anything but keyboard controls, but there is actually a surprising level of depth to the combat.
First off, the obvious one — the captain and his cannoneers need to work in tandem to get the cannons at the right angle for landing shots. Cannonballs are heavy and have a quick falloff to their trajectory. It takes a lot of skill (or luck) to land a cannon shot at great distances. Trial and error is a given, but still, with the target and your airship in constant motion, and the long interval between shots, any observations made can quickly become obsolete.
Support crewmates can use a handheld weapon called a 'Blocker' to intercept enemy cannonballs. Blocker projectiles move quick and straight but still require skill to hit a flying cannonball. There are also 'Air-mines'—explosives floating on balloons—which can be fired off as a projectile and self-deploy after a certain distance. These can be used to limit enemies' movement and block their shots.
Lastly, there is the option to board enemy ships. To do so, the captain has to maneuver the airship above the enemy's. Crewmembers can then rappel off and partake in good old melee action.
Something noteworthy is the boosts system. Cannon boost pumps more power into a shot and alters its path (such as left/right arcing, or a helix shape) to make it harder for enemy blockers to read. Ship boost activates an airship's thrusters to ascend/descend or even strafe to quickly get into position or dodge enemy fire.
For a combat system so teamwork-heavy, it is unfortunate to say that the game is dead. Not the dying kind of dead in other games with small playerbase. Truly dead, as in zero players. Hence, this game cannot ever be experienced in its full glory anymore: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6DBX6EXggZI
There are invisible bots who fill up the teams (looking like ghost ships really), and they are really good at shooting cannons. But they will never board your ship. It is a tough and lonely experience manhandling a ship alone.

Art & Graphics ★★☆☆☆

Released in 2012, Air Buccaneers uses Unity 3 which was already outdated by then with Unity 4 released.
Unity has always been a little backward in terms of quality, focusing more on cross-platform support. Consequently, this game looks like a mobile game from the 2010s. Textures look weirdly bright and not interacting with the world. Lighting is very strange overall.
The vast scenery looking from the skies is breathtaking and earns a consolation star for the score in this category.

Music & Sounds ★★★☆☆

Intro theme sounds adventurous and doused in a melancholic tone.
Tribal shouting and war drums signaling the start of a round is quite exciting.
Viking pirate voice commands are quite satisfactory.
No in-game BGM makes the game oddly quiet when far away from a fight. Just reusing the intro theme and smartly fading it off when nearing battle would do.

Plot & Characters ★☆☆☆☆

Two tribes got into an unexplained dispute and have been entangled in a brutal war ever since. Just a sore excuse to get started fighting.
It is also not explained why there are seas but no ships and they are flying in the air instead. But judging from how out of bounds areas are scripted—monster mushrooms emerge from the ground to attack you, and seawater appears to be poisonous—it suggests that the wilderness is extremely dangerous in this world.

Controls & Interface ★★★☆☆

Standard WASD controls configurable in the settings.
Ship/cannon boost menus are operated using the mouse wheel and spacebar to activate selection.
Would be nice if there is a crosshair or trajectory/range indicator to help players better gauge their cannon shots.

Verdict

An interesting game with tricky team-reliant mechanics. The game is sadly dead, and it feels crippling when played alone.

Помните я говорил, что игры с мультиплеером нужно делать с одиночным режимом, иначе игра сдохнет? - чтож, я прочту лекцию почему я прав... Присаживайтесь на дилдаки, устраивайтесь поудобнее...
