About
AI Society is an civilization simulation game where every character is driven by a local AI model.
Create up to 25 unique characters and define who they are:
• Set personality traits; how peaceful, hardworking, extroverted, generous, playful, or dominant they are
• Give them hobbies like fishing, wood carving, or leatherworking
• Write a freeform description to shape their worldview and backstory
• Choose their appearance and gender
Characters in AI Society are fully autonomous. They will:
• Find jobs and fill roles in the town's economy based on their personalities
• Earn and spend money, manage hunger, and seek rest
• Form relationships, some warm, some tense, based on their traits and interactions
• Characters can get married and have children to continue their legacy
• Post thoughts, reactions, and confrontations on their own social media
• Visit the homes and farms of their neighbors, or gather at the tavern for a drink after work
• Fight with characters they despise, and if things go badly, die permanently
• Drop what they're doing to swarm and attack the intruders when the town is getting raided by bandits
When a character dies, they're gone. Their job goes unfilled. Their relationships dissolve. They're remembered in the town cemetery, where others may visit their grave. With a revive token, they can be brought back to life.
Level up your town and rank by going on adventures and reaching milestones in your town
• Play mini-games, dungeon raids, or town rivals to gain XP for your town
• Reach milestones in your town, such as defending your first bandit raid, and earn XP
Play mini-games or fight your way through dungeons & town rivals with your characters to gain town XP and win artifacts that gives them special perks
• Rare, epic, & exclusive legendary drops when you complete a dungeon
• Win more artifacts for your characters when you beat a mini-game
• Play 6 different mini-games and 5 tiered dungeons
• Battle & go on raids with the strongest characters in your civilization
• When characters die in a dungeon, they die permanently
• Go into battle with your town's population and fight off the other town rivals
Control the town or the characters with your god powers
• Put thoughts in character's heads
• Force a confrontation or an encounter
• Cause chaos and smite town resources or exile your characters
• Watch your characters react to your decisions on their social media
• Heal characters before dungeon raids
• Pick up characters and drop them where you'd like on the map
AI Society runs entirely on your machine using Ollama. No internet required, no subscriptions/monthly payments, no data sent anywhere. Works with LM Studio. Choose the model that fits your hardware:
• Llama 3.2 1B - Lightweight, runs on almost anything
• Llama 3.1 8B - Best character quality and depth (Recommended)
• Gemma 2 2B - An alternative lightweight option
Every conversation, every social media post, every decision your townsfolk make is generated live by the AI model you select.
Note:
Linux Users: GPU acceleration works automatically for NVIDIA GPUs.
AMD GPU Users: install ollama via curl -fsSL | sh for GPU support.
Without it, AMD GPUs will run on CPU (slower but functional).

The game has an interesting core idea, but in its current state it still feels too basic and underdeveloped. Even for an idle game, there is simply too little happening to keep the player engaged over time. It lacks depth, meaningful interactions, and overall progression. In addition, several important features are missing or need improvement. The selection of AI models is very limited, and it would be great to have the option to load custom models (for example via Ollama). There are also no proper audio settings — the game is extremely loud and there is no way to adjust the volume in the menu. When creating villagers, avatars and genders are not randomized, which makes the world feel repetitive. On top of that, it’s quite difficult to follow characters, so a camera-follow feature would greatly improve the experience. Overall, the game has potential, but right now it feels more like an early prototype than a fully developed idle game.
Nothing happens. Such a cool concept, but it needs to be fleshed out. The chat logs get out of order, some characters stop talking. There are zero settings to even adjust volume. You can't edit characters if you make a mistake... it's just rough. You can establish decrees to tell them what to do, but otherwise you have zero input. Again, cool concept, but very lacking. Half the time it doesn't get accepted, and when it does get accepted, it doesn't work. The potential is there, just not yet. Really hoping this gets turned around.
Honestly, I’m giving this a thumbs up 👍 It’s a really cool, one-of-a-kind LLM-based game that you can run locally, which is already a huge plus. Watching the AI villagers think, react, and form their own little society is surprisingly engaging. What makes it even better is that the developer is actively updating the game, adding new features weekly and expanding the overall complexity. You can tell it’s evolving fast. Definitely worth trying if you’re into AI, simulations, or just something different.
This game is still early access and continously being developed. It is something i have wanted for long now. AI driven settlement. It's World box with AI but with interpersonalities of rimworld. Really love this gem. The latest update has fixed alot of the issues the other negative reviews left. This is EXACTLY what i have been looking for. I have other idle games with some town versions but it's always involved interacting with the town. This game the characters use a large language model (which you can now choose from a list since last update) in the game. They run their own town, and the personalities you set them (you can select random as well) interact in the way they speak. So far my settlement: -Settled by campfire, the extroverted settlers were chatting, the introverts wandered off into forest. -Day 2: Town hall was built by the extroverts. The introverts had gathered some crops and wood. -Day 3: Introverts introduced themselves via the social media and extroverts welcome them and said they will help them settle in. Day 4: They worked together to build town hall. They are now discussing with each other how to help the farmers gather the crops better as one of them was struggling and upset about how hard it was. They are now going to raise this at the next town meeting. This is simple amazing! I have this on my second monitor on windows (WIN+SHIFT+arrowkey) to move the window around whilst doing other stuff. I feel like i'm watchng an antfarm with AI. I can't help keep trackof what the little people are upto and how their lives in the newly formed town is shaping, whilst they develop interpersonalities. Looking forward to this being developed further really hope this continues as this is an example of where AI in idle games can be very interesting! Keep up the work on this and this could be a great gem! Social media of my settlers: https://ibb.co/QF3YYkg8
Wouldn't recommend this to other gamers as it's just unintuitive. I've got a few hours in the game now, and after 150 days in game, only 4 houses were built. Decreed that more houses should be built, so the last 5 villagers would stop congregating around the campfire all night, and they agreed! New housing! ...but no new housing was built. Added a villager specifically to do some preventative maintenance and he never picked it up. Housing falls apart just to be rebuilt rather than a villager get tasked to repair the building. When utilizing 'social media' to talk among the villagers, some replies from villagers get replied to unrelated posts, and some AI absorb specific hobbies given to different AI without noting it on their character sheet (or this specific post by AI used the wrong villager to post as). Made a new town, and added 8 villagers throughout the day. As long as you add villagers before the first day ends, they'll also get slated for new housing and will get a tent and house, but if all initial hosuing is complete (you stick to the first five and didnt'add new villagers), they'll complete housing for all 8 vilagers, otherwise, they'll never build another dwelling. A lot more polish required. Not ready for launch, which is expected.Just kind of sad. Hopeful this game gets fleshed out.
Well I tried it, curiosity got me. I don't know if I would call this a game. It's more of an AI with a simple graphical design. The bots you start out by telling them a little bit or a lot a bit, up to you. But after that, that's..... well that's it. You kind of watch these little pixelated bots roam around, but they..... roam, that's pretty much it. I made it to almost day 14 in the game cycle, I never seen a single social media message, no communications really much, they cut wood by just standing near a tree, there is no movement just the bot standing and kind of waving in the wind or bouncing, to go home and sleep, they, yup stand outside the house and well sway like a tree in the wind, then if their hungry they gather around the camp fire and..... yup, stand there, then finally night hits, you see a priest you programmed and a devil worshiper enter the same bar, yesssss drama or something.... nope, they just stand there. This is not a game at its current state, its more of an idle AI system that looks cute, but really leaves you unsatisfied. I mean it, you don't do anything, just watch.
Local AI that runs on your own machine, bypassing the environmental and moral conundrums that come with using generative AI. The interactions between villagers is pretty damn addicting to witness. Over time, my little villagers began to actually truly develop personality traits based on what I had given them when creating their characters, and even the automatically-generated villagers that show up randomly develop their own personalities as well. As it is, my village is run by a hard-working wizard woman who is very practical and wishes her citizens would focus more on the greater good instead of little, finer things. It's a prosperous community guarded by a pious werewolf with a persistent faith in their god, and farm-fed by a chill, friendly, disco-dancing beekeeper who acts as a calm mediator during big arguments and events in the town. I like this game :> "Maybe if we all stopped focusing on wealth and power, we could actually get something done around here for once in our damn lives!" - The Town Leader, Polio Lopez.
Alright, I've got some things to say about this. There is a clear idea here that has the full capability of being a total hit. Like a monster hit. Its just missing a lot of polish. I know this is still in early development, so I give it plenty of patience. The AI Social Media Tab is hilarious when its working well. I am finding a lot of glitches where the wrong comments are being posted though, and it kind of ruins the experience once you see that it really works. It also seems that there is a building or home limit in the game? I've tried letting it go on its own and I've tried to intervene, but I can't seem to get my villagers to build enough homes for everyone. All that being said, I'm still going to recommend this charming game. It's like a fish bowl, but all your idiot work peers that you can watch struggle with being trapped. This is a genius idea and I can't wait for it to be flushed out. Cheers
This "game" is half baked and isn't ready yet. It is missing about a thousand items on the to do list, like "Resolution Settings" and simple things that seem to be ignored. If this was an early access I would feel great buying it. As it is now? I'm contemplating a refund. 120 "days" in and my community has no social media posts. Half of them do not have houses. All of them except for 1 has no change in Relationships between characters. I am playing on the largest LLM option. The most exciting thing that happened while it was on over night was the destruction and reconstruction of the tavern due to no maintenance... so far nothing is happening and no conversations or anything similar is happening... is my game broken?
I really appreciate the idea of and the game itself. The open team developing it responds and handles bugs or suggestions right away. This makes the game constantly grow with options and actions. I've heard whispers about the option for mods being added in the future, which would make it even better. For those interested in A.I. and not into fancy AAA graphics this game sits at a perfect price with a promosing future.
