Age of Pixels is a surprisingly fun, low-budget RTS that plays well enough and is likely inspired by legendary RTS games like Age of Empires (note the similarity in the names ;) ). Personally though, I think it's not as sophisticated as a typical RTS. For instance, there aren't a lot of buildings in this game, and you only have to contend with 4 types of resources; 2 of which are linked (as in can be gathered from the same resource node). There are no army formations and despite having some unit variety, it doesn't seem to matter too much. Hence, there's no real strategy behind attacking enemies except that you should bring more troops than your enemies. Being an indie game that I assume has a very small development team, the game does lack a couple of "quality of life" features that I've taken for granted in the RTS games that I've played. However, this only provides plenty of room for this game to grow and perhaps pave way to a much better sequel.
Watch me play!
Didn't spend too much time (yet) but I hope you can get an idea of the game from my first hour (approx) playing the game https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=62EcKDrNPxg
Pros
+ Low-budget RTS indie game that works well as an "introduction to RTS". Not too sophisticated to get into and learn overall. + Pretty nice pixel graphics! + Love the music variety here + Has a campaign + several other game modes including Skirmish and Multiplayer + Has a Creation mode + Lots of replayability if you tend to spend tens of hours on RTS games. + The reduced price tag makes this game so much more worthwhile!
Cons
- Controls can be a bit hard to get used to. - Kamikazes seem to explode when clicked on for some reason. I think that's a bug? - Group management could use some revamping. If you select more than 1 person, you can't see what units you have inside the group. Can be a bit hard to select a specific unit when the group is huge. Can't only select combat units either and if your workers happen to be milling about your army, it's likely you'll accidentally select them as well. - Some quality of life stuff like 1. No grouping, as in you can't tag groups of highlighted troops with numbers and select them by pressing the corresponding number. 2. No unit formations. 3. etc - Some glitches like my units getting stuck in walls that were recently built - Can't figure out how to open chests - Crashes - the game crashed during my stream without warning - From my hour-long play, the game doesn't seem to offer a lot of strategic gameplay, focusing mostly on building and amassing a huge army as fast as you can just so you can overwhelm your opponent.
Overall
All in all, Age of Pixels shows a whole lot of promise as a fun RTS that's affordable, has pretty cool pixel graphics, and is easy enough to get into. There's a nice campaign that you can play, and skirmishes (multiplayer or single-player) after you're done, plus a Creation mode too. Of course, the reduced price does make the game a lot more worthwhile even if you only plan on playing the campaign. However, the game isn't perfect and this is something that you might want to bear in mind when deciding whether or not to make the purchase. Good game, you can enjoy it for a long time!
Awesome game with a cool art style and loads of potential, 10/10
Jako że gra dopiero wyszła to powiem o niej krótko. Gra Age of Pixels to gra strategiczna, w której chodzi o to żeby wytrenować swoją armię i budować budynki oraz żeby wygrać.
In this video I take a look at Age of Pixels an RTS game that strips things back to the basics. A fun little title without all the fancy stuff. I though the tutorial was pretty easy so i attacked too early in my game and got destroyed. Take a look at the video where I walk you through the tutorial then a full match. I think this might be fun using the local multiplayer it offers. I very like this RTS game!
Awsome!!
It's interesting, but it needs a tutorial. I have no idea how to play. I couldn't even find an in-game manual '~'
A basic and frankly quire bad RTS. I would stay clear of this one!
Not too bad. Nice and simple. Easy to quickly pickup and play.
