About

Build, Gather and Fight in a Desperate Last Stand Against an Onslaught of Never Ending Evil!
The darkness is an entity of evil. Some say it is the manifestation of human fear and nightmares, others say it is a wandering mass of damned souls haunting us. The origin of the darkness itself is unknown, but one thing for certain is that we can keep it at bay through the power of light and fire.
The complete, full release of Age of Darkness: Final Stand is available now and includes Co-operative Multiplayer, Campaign, and Survival modes.

Brace yourself against huge tidal waves of Nightmares. Leveraging an internally developed technology called ‘SwarmTech’ allows the game to render over 70,000 enemy units on the screen at one time. These enemy legions claw their way up through seething fissures in the earth to reinforce ‘The Veil’.

Light up a rich, complex, procedurally generated map to claim territory back from ‘The Veil’. A dynamic living death fog that conceals enemies and drains life from your troops. Holding the line against this terror is not for the faint of heart.

Borrowing from the the roguelite genre, Malices are random afflictions placed on the player during every Death Night, unraveling the best made plans. Conversely, if a Death Night is survived, you may decide between three randomly selected Blessings, enriching the experience and giving your army a much needed edge.

Lead the charge against the horrors of the night with powerful and unique Heroes. Using special abilities gained from leveling up, these Heroes can be key to turning the tide of a desperate battle. But beware, the Nightmares have Elite roaming champions of their own that drop precious resources when killed, posing an extreme and ever-present threat to your expansion.

Co-Op Multiplayer - Team up with a friend in co-op multiplayer to survive the onslaught, defend humanity from the forces beyond the Veil, and reclaim the light together
Epic Campaign - Award winning single-player campaign full of epic battles and dire threats
Survival Mode - Put your endurance and skills to the test in the endlessly replayable Survival Mode
Award-Winning SwarmTech™ Technology – Witness the internally developed ‘SwarmTech’ technology, allowing the game to render over 70,000 enemy AI units on the screen at one time.
Unique Heroes & Factions – Choose Heroes reigning from three distinct Factions - The Order, Rebellion & Volatists - each with their own playstyles, abilities, bonuses and army units that offer a unique gameplay experience.
Dynamic Day & Night Cycle – Fight to reclaim territory by day and survive against the relentless horrors that come with every night.
Living Death Fog – Encounter The Veil, a living death fog that conceals terrors and adds a new layer of danger to your survival, which must be kept at bay through the power of the Light.
Malices, Blessings & Hardships – Embrace roguelite mechanics that make every run unpredictable and unique.
Elite Nightmares – Hunt down wandering powerful enemies for Dark Essence, each requiring different tactics and strategies to defeat.
Horror and Embolden Status Effects - Embolden your army to aid them in battle, but ensure they are protected from the brutal effects of being Horrified.
Terrifying Nightmare Foes – Face off against horrifying monsters like Spitters, Crushers, and Wraiths, each wielding unique abilities.

They Are Billions got me hooked in a new type of defensive survival RTS. For those unaware of the budding new genre, you're playing a strategy game where you need to clear out an enemy filled map in a timely manner in order to build a thriving economy, strong enough to support a army capable of beating the frankly insane attack waves that periodically threaten your existence. Its a careful balance of aggressive expansion, unit management and defensive planning thats utterly addicting to someone who spent their youth playing total annihilation against as many hard bots as possible and building a wall of guns to fend off any threat. Age of Darkness follows the above template to the letter, but its not exactly a clone of TAB. There are some differences that set it apart and a number of improvements I really enjoy. Starting with the good points: Combat is tight and responsive, units move when ordered and the melee combat feels pretty good, which is often hit and miss in RTS games. Graphically, the game looks lovely with a distinct artstyle and it features heroes in the survival modes which level up as you play, offering a range of abilities to compliment your army. Enemies have a nice variety and units all have their roles, there is very little fat on this game. Mid points: The lack of fat cuts both ways though. Choice is limited and underbaked. There are 3 factions to choose from, all with two heroes each, but faction differences are lacking. There are only a couple of different units between them, the order faction for example having a knight and catapult, where as the rebels have a thief and long range hunter unit that can lay traps. These are fine and nice, but it really feels like there was more to explore here and the devs didn't go through with it. Late game gets samey, as it often does with these sorts of games. You simply mass your best ranged options and cut through the map. Not sure thats the devs fault here, TAB is the same, and its often pretty rewarding to watch your army bulldoze. You might like it, you might not. Bad or lacking: Multiplayer is a fantastic idea (its two player co-op only) but me and my wife couldn't play a game through to completion without crashes or games refusing to load at all. We were enjoying it when it was working, but i simply cannot recommend a game that you can't play. Apparently its hit and miss, with some people able to play several multiplayer games in a row without issue, and others unable to play a single one. We are in the latter catagory. The devs have moved on too. Thats fair enough, they brought the game to place they were happy with and started a different game, but I can't help but feel that the game has so much more potential. More heroes, more unique units per faction, more building options, more map types and terrain. There was a lot that could be done here but I don't think we'll ever get it. As a result, i can't recommend the game despite really liking it. Combat is fun and tight, building is rewarding and enjoyable, the gameplay loop appeals to me, the art looks great, the world is engaging, its all there. But all just slightly underbaked. If you're new to the genre and like the idea of a defensive, hold-out based strategy game thats high on tension and timing, I think you could have a good time with AoD, but i'd recommend TAB over it. Sure, TaB doesn't have multiplayer, but with the crashes, neither does AoD.

Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 1.14/day in the week to Jul 30 → 1.43/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,402 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Me parece un juego de 10, ningún otro del estilo me ha gustado tanto, me encanta el modo coop, pero ojala existiera un modo de juego con oleadas infinitas que vayan escalando de a poco.

The Campaign is tedious garbage. Poorly written. Poorly thought out. Just bad. AS to survival... They are Billions beckons... Another side note... I hate artificial delays in load screens. If it is not a artificial delay then it is a poorly optimized piece of trash.
Story Mode: Starts terribly boring, gets a little better as it goes but I stopped at ~Act 3 from boredom. Survival Mode: IMO the core mode for this game. Is quite good. Multi-player mode: never tried Once you learn the game mechanics it becomes easier but it can easily lead to micro-management. In survival mode it might take a while to notice but not only can you choose a faction, but there are 2 hero options for each faction. Each with their own unique abilities. You win survival mode by capitalizing on the types of units the faction is best at. When you choose buffs, melee is best with maxing hp. IMO they are also best to reflect damage for the final stand. They are mainly best for keeping enemies off the defences. For me personally I go for range and vision with archers and that balances both vision needs early, mid game to secure locations and expand as well as to provide range during final stand. Siege is best with a mix of AOE and knockback. This helps out significantly for every death night and the final stand. A lot of people don't understand the armor mechnics. Many troops need to replenish armor periodically. If it's broken down you'll frustratingly notice that the unit takes too much damage too easily. For final stand I always make sure to have 2 crews per dark crystal location so that one can replenish armor at a nearby workshop while the other takes the front line. I beat normal difficulty for all factions in survival mode, but have not yet increasing difficulty. Warcraft 3 like walking mechanics (but a little more forgiving). Note: I leave games open alot so the "played" amount of hours may not accurately reflect reality. Maybe played 40 hours as at the time of this review.
Abandoned game, do not buy.
Abandonware
This ideally would be a game with neutral review, but I am choosing to put a negative one in hope that devs actually work on it again so it can reach it's full potential! It's not a bad game, you will definitely have some fun with it, but it's just sad it was abandonded at this state. Pros ==== - They are billions type of gamplay which not many games exist like that. - Multiplayer mode! It makes the game a lot more fun and wish more similar games included such a mode. - Different heroes. - 3 factions to choose. - Graphics and art are cool. - Performance seems to be good at this state, had some issues in the past but seems to be fixed now. Neutral ====== - Although it has a multiplayer mode, it makes you think all the possibilities of it e.g. campaign or scenarios if it would be properly expanded. Cons ==== - Campaing. So when you first open up campaign mode you see a huge map and you think "This is going to be an awesome campaign". However it's all an illusion cause it only has a few missions that you don't even get to reach the full potential of factions and also most missions seem to be around killing human enemies. The current campaign would be good if it was the "First Part" but apparently it's sold as a full experience. Also it would be good to have a tech tree of sorts similar to TAB. Also the story isn't that good and doesn't even allow you to fully experience all the heroes and factions. - Needs some QoL, especially around unit responsiveness, reaction and path finding. - Plenty of bugs especially with multiplayer mode that are game breaking. Some were address but some still remain. Final note, if this game has a scenario editor similar to warcraft 3, it could have given the game unlimited replayability!
