How I became a Speedrunner
When I first saw this game, I thought it would be too hard for someone like me. But the game mechanics are very intuitive and you can actually play the game quite easily, if you know platformers in general. It comes with a lot of beautiful artworks and an outstanding soundtrack, which I enjoyed a lot, but I think those things are not even the best parts about Afterthought. What makes this game special is the unique gameplay. If you want to dive deep into the mechanics, you can basically invest infinite time into the game and pull off the craziest stunts! God, it just feels so rewarding when you finally get that S time. You can even beat the developer ghosts, if you want to embarrass them. And there are a lot of bonus objectives and Skins for all the completionists out there. Although it does not seem like it, almost everything in the game is quite achieveable even for Normies like me. Except for the online highscores... Personally the most interesting part about the highscore system is, that you can filter the scores by categories. Although I am pretty sure, that I will never get one of those world records for any level (those runs are just insane), I was still able to get records in categories like "Only Dash" or "No Skills". I think what this game really taught me was how to Speedrun. It even turned me into some kind of Speedrunner at some point, which I think is a pretty cool experience.
Afterthought is a platformer with very own and individual movement moves. The aim of this game is to reach the end of a level as quickly as possible. There are 5 different skills available for you. You combine these and you can achieve unbelievably fast speeds. Unlike some other platformers, there is no permadeff or any other form of punishment. Taking damage actually slows time. So this game is also very beginner-friendly, because the more damage you suffer, the slower the game runs. This gives you more time to fine-tune your skills. Of course you don't get good scores anymore. This keeps you repeating the level to beat your high score. You can easily upload your score and also look at the replays of the other players. All in all the art style, soundtrack and animations harmonize very well with each other. I recommend every fan of jump n run games to give this game a try!
Afterthought has the best 2d platforming I have played on PC. Play the demo and see for yourself. This game has a compelling art style, smooth and incredibly satisfying gameplay, and an excellent soundtrack. There's also progression which unlocks neat effects for your character, as well as new abilities to improve your times. The game offers extremely detailed breakdowns of your level routes, and can show you ways to improve! Even if you want to just enjoy the story, there's a mode for that too. Afterthought is compelling combination of art and substance, and I would highly recommend it to anyone.
To say that this game is good would be a great understatement, as in it of itself provides a combination of great aesthetics, interestingly great art style, cool and calming music, with the addition of a creatively challenging gameplay, all of these aspects alone make the game more worthy of being called a hidden gem in steam's vast sea of games. To be completely honest, the game's art style and gameplay does remind me of games like vector having a lovechild with cytus. As such the game honestly deserves more attention and love as it has that potential to become greater than it already is.
Speedrunner meets Art Game! What a beautifully made game with a great love for detail. The artstyle and music work together really well and convey a stunning melancholic atmosphere. The gameplay is introduced through an elegantly designed tutorial before you are thrown into the sometimes bleak and cold, sometimes bright and warm levels. The bosses are unique with a pretty crazy design! It's fast-paced and challenging (there's a leaderboard and a rating system, too) but it's also fair because the game offers ways to help and visualize things. The UI is customizable so you decide how much help you want. The well-crafted cutscenes add a lot of depth and underline that a great deal of thought and heart was put into the game. Absolutely recommend <3
Afterthought is a really nice game with a pretty fast learning curve. The gameplay is really smooth and easy to understand. You have multiple options and skills to finish a stage. The Artstyle/Design is really unique and awesome. If you´re someone who really likes to challenge yourself or someone who really likes to finish in a smooth and elegant way, this is the right game for you. Finishing a Stage the way you want is one of the best feeling. Only Downside of the game: My wrist hurts like hell and the stupid feeling when you say/think "This is the last run".
Nice game for speedrunners. 스피드러너한테는 좋은 게임입니다. Clearing level 1 in 4 second? 4초만에 1레벨을 깬다고요? Nice game for speedrunners, only speedrunners. 스피드러너'한테는' 좋은 게임입니다.
i'm gonna speedrun this review and will just write one word: spectacular

I have a current time of 2 hours played and thats more than enough to say this is, by FAR, the singular most underrated game I have ever seen, seriously what the hell is happening? How in the nine realms does this not have an indie CULT by now? Dear developers, I love what you've created.
