Experienced on the Oculus Rift
This is a 10 minute VR 360 documentary that focuses on the effect of solitary confinement. It is done by PBS Frontline, so if you have seen any of their work you know this is all top notch stuff. You basically follow Kenny and see what his life was like in the Maine State Prison and the use of solitary confinement there and how he struggles with it today. The environments were captured with photogrammetry so they all look fantastic in VR. Unfortunately, that's not available for human models so Kenny looks more like a hologram inside the environments. While the video overall looks great & runs smoothly, the human model does flicker in places and you can see some artifacts as well. Still, this is a powerfully done VR documentary. Keep in mind this is simply a 360 cinematic experience. So there are no interactions and there is no game here. However, I strongly recommend viewing this. Thank you PBS for making this in VR for us to enjoy & learn as well. Rate 8/10. Amazing work!

This happened in my home state, where I live. I did not know this happened here until it was stated so. I am a little mortified that it did. My very short brush with the law here was nothing like this. The guards would have been maine people. I assume. To see maine people destroyed like this is hard. To know it was at the hands of people I potentialy interact with, saddens me. Lets just say that this hit me pretty hard, and is well worth the time and space. We are human, this helps educate us. Take the time to listen to this man.
After Solitary is a free VR experience. It worked on my HTC Vive and Index system, looked ok, played ok, sounded ok. Was sad story. Try it, if you like Social Justice documentaries.
It was totally amazing the technology used to freely move around in a real environment. The acting was great because it was real.I truly feel compassion for the guy but very thankful the guy has a support system of a great wife and counseling.Jesus Christ too died for you,He is alive !
An excellent short talking about what solitary confinement does to a person. Highly recommend this. The technology used here to show us his story is very good.
I really recommend this experience. Graphics are great, presentation great, it doesnt require you to do anything but start it and watch. On a more serious note it shows you just what solitary confinement can do to a person. The torture will break even the strongest person.
Played On: HTC Vive
After Solitary is a 360-degree mini documentary that follows an ex-inmate named Kenny as he speaks about his life before, during, and after being incarcerated at Main State Prison. The video puts you inside his small bedroom, and the small confines of a solitary cell, both of which feel equally as narrow and uninviting; at the end of the experience, you're sure to feel at least a little claustrophobic. Kenny talks about how solitary confinement turned him from a relatively sane person into a deranged, self-mutilating, nearly insane individual. If you've watched any number of documentaries about this type of imprisonment, you'll have already seen most of what After Solitary has to offer; except this title goes into deeper detail about the psychological aftereffects when an inmate gets out. There are some technical mishaps with this title, namely with the figure of Kenny himself. His clothes, especially his hat, constantly glitch around and it does become quite distracting. It also takes away from the "real" feeling that this mini documentary is trying to provide. Aside from the ever-moving clothing, Kenny does look like a weird hologram, you can tell that the locations are pre-shot pictures and that they filmed Kenny in front of a green screen and put him over the environments. It's a little out of place, but if you're into true crime then After Solitary is still a decent way to spend 10 minutes.
