The gameplay of ADAPTR is pretty straight-forward and easy to learn. Your task is to build a robotic vehicle from a selecion of parts (various kinds of wheels, chassis blocks, joints, gadgets like a grabber, thrusters, lamps etc), suitable to finish the maps. And you need to modify your vehicle for each map as there are different kinds of obstacles. At first I was afraid that it doesn't offer much content for the price, having "only" 10 levels in the base game, and some of them are quite easy to "finish" for the first time. But it turns out, this is the kind of game which is easy to play/finish, but damn hard to master. Some of the levels are already difficult when you only want to reach the goal point at the end of the map, and then there are additional achievements to master if you are going for a "Gold" rating instead of the "Bronze" medal you get for simply reaching the goal. There's a par time to beat, a maximum component count, a target score, a hidden robot (ARTHER from the developer's other game Fortresscraft), and a max number of attempts per level if you really want that Gold medal. So, even if you manage to breeze through the maps for the first time in a few hours, there's a lot of replay value for completionists. Or people trying to come up with exotic vehicle designs. That said, I've already spent a considerable amount of time playing it, and still only have bronze medals for the first 9 levels, and didn't even beat the last level yet. The graphics are good, as well as the soundtrack and sound effects. And the vehicle editor is very well done and intuitive to use. So, overall, this is a nice and fun physics puzzler. Could be an interesting title for streamers to check out because the individual maps are relatively fast to finish, and you can get hilarious fails trying out, eh "suboptimal" vehicle designs. Might also be a cool game for speedrunners. And completionists who want to 100% it. Therefore: Thumbs up! Maybe not the best game of the year, but well worth it's money. I've had plenty fun with it so far and am still trying to finish the last level and get my first gold medal, so I can recommend it with good conscience. It's also really great how responsive the developer is: I've stumbled on a few quirks/bugs myself, and after bringing them up on the games's Discord channel the developer instantly replied and fixed those issues on the same day! This is awesome "customer service" compared to some other games which have gamebreaking bugs for months or years and the devs don't seem to bother with fixing any of these. I wish there were a few more maps/levels, because some of them are pretty short and linear. But 12,50€ is still a fair price for what you get out of it, and hopefully there will be additional maps in the future (From the main menu, it looks like there are 2 additional chapters planned).
A fun vehicle building physic puzzler that has you build a vehicle using any available parts and run it through to the end of the course in the given amount of time. Yeah, *just* do that. Good luck. Also, find and collect ARTHER if you can. I've been at this now more hours than I spent dollars on the game which is my incredibly unfair benchmark for whether a game is good. And this game is seriously good. Also it seems like it's not gotten much attention yet, so I'm going to see if I can get all the gold medals and claim 1st world-wide 100% :p
Think of this game as building a machine to navigate a puzzle, with many choices of how to build your machine to complete the task given to you, (suspensions, rotation blocks, extending blocks, etc). The graphics and gameplay are smooth, and the levels have replayability because you can build your robot in multiple ways, trying to beat previous high scores of fewest components/fastest time. It's a solid mix of voxel/cube building with physics based parts. Definitely worth buying! It's made by the person who made Fortresscraft, which is an excellent 3D voxel automation factory game with some survival and tower defense mixed in.
I have been able to play through the entire game and i really enjoyed my experience. I found some very creative ways to deal with some of the obstacles in the game. one of the things i most enjoy about this game is that there are many ways to build a vehicle that will work for each puzzle. you get many different pieces to build your robot machine such as rockets and magnet grabbers. the game reminds me a lot of battle bots. in fact i stole one of the designs from that show to beat many areas in the game. I would reccomend this game to people who like to have fun building stuff and making cool robots. definately has been worth picking up and playing.
So far I like it. Trying to come up with combinations of parts to make a vehicle to complete the missions is fun and often rather challenging. The lights do help on some levels to see things that are hidden in the dark :) And rockets can just be plain awesome! Honestly I've actually spent more time just doing bizarre combinations of parts making crazy vehicles than seriously trying to complete the levels so far....... If you like building things and solving puzzles then this should be a good way to do both.
A fun little vehicle based puzzle game that I've enjoyed greatly. Two things to remember about building the vehicles for anyone reading this. Everything connects to Chassis blocks and you can just slap wheels on the side of chassis blocks and go.
This is definitely a fun game and would recommend to anyone who enjoying building simplistic to intricate building. I do have a small complaint I do hate that there aren't lot of options BUT with the lack of a lot of options it does force the player to be really creative. With a negative comes two plusses!
A fun game made by the creator of FortressCraft: Evolved. https://store.steampowered.com/app/254200/FortressCraft_Evolved/
I think this game has great potential, it's a fun game you just shape your A.D.A.P.T.R (Armored.Digistructed.Adaptable.Probing.Tactical.Robot) to fit any problem, it "adapts" with little difficulty, it's fun to design a vehicle/adaptr to accomadate the challenges of each level.
Really fun game, highly recommended !
