This is more than just an odd looking strategy game, it is a strategy platform. Genetically engineer amorphic creatures & buildings, in real time, in an endlessly open world that adapts to your playstyle. Share, and even battle your designs. How much will they be worth?

This game is awsome, but super hard. I have been into RTS sense starcraft 1 was released. I have no hope of "winning". It feels like the first proper RTS + Sandbox in that you can build anything you want in unites. Not to mention everything is funner in VR.
AoP is an rts that feels distinctive, which in 2019 is saying something. I play-tested the crap out of this and still have a lot to learn. The unit customization system provides many viable strategies and possible play styles. You can mimic builds and strategies from other rtses and tower defensey games if you wish. Some of your intuition about how rtses work will require adjustment in AoP's reality. There is no campaign. The only goal is to kill beefy Overseer units as cheaply and quickly as possible to receive a higher score on the leaderboard. If you know what you're doing you can defeat the first Overseer in 15 minutes, but getting that first kill is only the lowest tier of real victory. The AI never runs out of resources and cannot be defeated. Enemy units and buildings spawn around your units just outside of your line of sight, and killing them makes the enemy angrier which makes the AI spawn more enemies, leading to a meat grinder of attrition. You can keep pulling up weeds in your yard until your yard is perfect, but you can't prevent weeds from growing outside your yard. How long can you keep your base alive while hunting Overseers deep in the wilderness? Supports VR. Solid game performance with large numbers of units on the screen. You can stop time and issue commands. You can increase game speed if builds feel too slow. You can die a lot. You can save your army designs for future games. You can reconfigure your builders on the fly. You can slaughter thousands of enemy units. Resource nodes only come in two flavors and never run out. Maintaining steady production of fleets of expensive units requires controlling many resource nodes, which can be difficult to defend when the AI gets really angry and is attacking you from all directions. A Phr00t rts.. how perverse.
My 20+ hours are mostly on a single map, which I only stopped playing after I successfully hit a unit cap. Well, not literally a unit cap, but at some point, even this clever little game can't handle the sheer number of units I produced, and I managed to crash it. I asked for it, though. No question. I was basically ONLY using units that convert enemies into drones, so my unit count was a bit... exponential. I'm not even mad. :) There are a number of viable strategies, so there's probably some replay value, but you'll have to try not to fall into the same paths you'd used earlier, as there is very little to force you to do anything a particular way. If you need a game to encourage you, and reward you for following a specific path to "victory", this ain't it. If, however, you like a good sandbox game with thousands of units (as I do), then it's a good time. It's indie as hell, and I love it.
As a lover of strategy games and games from Phr00t's Software, I'm happy with this game. The systems took me a while to get a rudimentary grasp of and I'm surprised by how well put together it is. Coming into the game with a certain mindset and having the overlord taunt me as the resistance level goes from medium to extreme, destroying outposts I once thought to be robust provides a nice challenge. The feeling of going from being destroyed to being able to handle a overseer resistance level of extreme (sort of, at least) is very rewarding and the feeling is something I don't see in games too often. I absolutely recommend this game if you like to experiment and be awarded for thinking outside the box, while reaping the satisfaction that comes from both.
Open world rts rpg, where you go out and hunt for mining spots to guard, to grow your army and build up your defenses, and then send out your best units hunting for the enemy's big boss. I'm not good at rts's and never got that far, but theres a lot of fun customization and the game has been balanced a lot since i started playing.
Needs a bit of polish visually and in the UI, but, otherwise, this game's mechanics are frickin' golden. Feels amazing to play, got trapped in it for 6 hours today. Awesome spin on an RTS.
Play this game. It's good!
Well worth the 10$ I hope they keep adding more stuff to further our customization. highly recommended. very original.
I’m not very good at RTS games, so I don’t spend a lot of time on them. But I love the dev’s other games so I gave this a go. First, it seems like a new twist as there are no fixed units to start with. You create your units, balancing various types of attack an defense as well as movement. Do you make a lot of cheap, fast attackers, or a few slow, impregnable tanks? Why not some of both, and specialty units to round out your army? (Spoiler: it kicked my a**). One thing I want to point out is that I played this in VR and this added a lot to the experience. It’s very visceral when you are embedded in a translucent game field, watching enemies attack from your units’ POV. I loved some of the details the dev lavished on the VR experience. If you are an RTS fan definitely check this title out!
Fantastic game with continued updates that target Quality of life, content/variety of units, AI updates for more dynamic and unique games... This is an amazing game as is.. You can quite literally play the same game infinitely or choose to try and speedrun a new game (Niche playstyle) to kill an overseer as fast as possible =P In general, this game rewards you for expansion by giving you more resources. You can choose to tech up your units (which, if focused on, can literally let you 1v5 per unit) or focus more on the macro of the game.. Being cost efficient and setting up sacrifices. Just to let the community know, I made a super unit that took nearly 10 minutes to build that was a covert ops kinda sniping/kiting monster with stealth and a shield. Lol. Killed an overseer with that single unit albiet it was a close fight. Play this amazing game your way. Buy today, support a great indie dev that puts procedural generation into most if not all of their games, and join your friends on the leaderboards whilst exploring your unique seed and adapting to survive in this incredibly addictive RTS.
