Abscond, developed and published by XiNFiNiTY Games, is a minimalist arcade survival title that strips gameplay down to its most essential components: movement, reaction, and score chasing. Released in 2017, it positions itself firmly within the tradition of reflex-driven high-score games, where success is measured not by narrative progression or character development, but by how long you can survive under escalating pressure. There is no story, no worldbuilding, and no layered progression systems—only a clean arena, a controllable shape, and an ever-growing threat level. The premise is straightforward. You control a small flaming circular entity navigating a 2D field filled with hazards and hostile projectiles. Enemies appear and pursue, obstacles close in, and the environment gradually becomes more chaotic as time passes. The objective is simple: survive as long as possible and accumulate the highest score you can before inevitably being overwhelmed. This “endless survival” structure places Abscond in the lineage of classic arcade games that emphasize repetition, mastery, and incremental improvement over time. The gameplay loop is immediate and accessible. Controls are intuitive, relying primarily on directional movement to dodge incoming threats. There are no complex combos or layered mechanics to learn; the challenge arises from increasing speed and density rather than mechanical depth. As the session progresses, the pace accelerates, demanding sharper reactions and tighter maneuvering. Power-ups occasionally appear in the form of collectible white squares, offering temporary advantages such as speed boosts or enhanced capabilities. These brief moments of empowerment provide contrast to the otherwise defensive gameplay, creating short bursts of offensive opportunity amidst constant evasion. Visually, Abscond embraces extreme minimalism. The arena consists of stark backgrounds and simple geometric forms, ensuring that visual clarity remains high even as chaos intensifies. There is no visual clutter, and every element on screen serves a functional purpose. This aesthetic choice reinforces the purity of the design—nothing distracts from the core objective. While the presentation lacks decorative flourish, it effectively communicates threats and keeps the player’s focus centered on movement precision. Sound design and music are similarly restrained. Audio cues support the action without overwhelming it, reinforcing impacts and movement without introducing elaborate soundscapes. The overall tone remains consistent with the game’s stripped-down philosophy: clean, direct, and focused on function rather than atmosphere. For players who appreciate clarity and immediacy, this approach works well; for others, it may feel sparse or lacking personality. Where Abscond thrives is in its competitive structure. Online leaderboards provide motivation for repeated attempts, encouraging players to refine their skills and climb rankings. Steam achievements further incentivize mastery, offering small milestones tied to survival duration or scoring thresholds. Because sessions are short and easy to restart, the game supports rapid iteration—players can jump in, attempt to beat their previous record, and immediately try again. This loop can become addictive for those drawn to self-improvement challenges and arcade competition. However, the same minimalism that defines Abscond’s identity also limits its long-term appeal. Without progression systems, unlockable content, or evolving gameplay modes, the experience remains largely static. Once players have internalized movement patterns and enemy behaviors, the novelty may diminish. There are no additional environments, story arcs, or gameplay variations to expand the formula beyond survival and score accumulation. For some, this focused design represents purity; for others, it may feel underdeveloped. Ultimately, Abscond stands as a compact example of arcade design distilled to its core. It offers quick, reflex-driven gameplay sessions built around precision and endurance rather than narrative depth or mechanical complexity. Its value lies in its simplicity—an accessible yet challenging arena where survival time becomes the sole measure of achievement. For players who enjoy minimalist score-chasing experiences and tight reaction-based gameplay, Abscond provides a clean and concentrated challenge. For those seeking broader progression systems or layered content, its streamlined structure may feel too limited to sustain extended engagement. Rating: 5/10

It's a fun little game based around the idea of dodging walls and balls while collecting squares. It's a fairly simple concept that'll provide entertainment for a good half hour, which is also roughly the amount of time it took me to get all of the achievements. It's only $1 so it's not a terrible deal but if you see it on sale I'd recommend it.
Abscond is a minimalistic game where you control a small flaming circle. Its a casual game for when you want a quick amusement, and try to beat your own score. That means its easy to play and sometimes is funny but nothing more then colecting collecting
good game
