950 easy finds, then “okay where are the rest??”
Thank you to Make it a Triple for the curator copy. This is nonetheless an impartial review. First things first: I appreciate that it’s not called “A Thousand Hidden Bees,” because let’s be honest: most of them are not hiding. This is still a good HOG, just one where the bees are often vibing in plain sight. You’ve got 12 main levels (plus a few sneaky extras) and 1000+ bees to find (
including some tucked into menus and options
). I had a really good time with it, but the price tag doesn’t quite match the playtime. Each level includes anywhere between 42 and 170 bees, and honestly, about 80–90% are just there, in plain sight. No detective hat required. The level progression asks for around 80% completion to unlock the next one, which happens quickly. I clocked about 1 hour for 996 bees, and a big chunk of that time was spent chasing the last few stragglers. It’s very approachable, maybe a bit too approachable if you’re a seasoned hunter looking for a real challenge. The presentation is lovely. The art is cute, the music is calm, and the whole thing has a bright, upbeat energy (sometimes very bright, more on that in a sec). The zoom works great, and I love how the UI fades away when you move near it while searching. There are also more customization options than usual: separate sound sliders, toggles for bigger click areas, optional cursor, and even the choice to make bees disappear when found. Nice little touches that make the experience smoother and more personalized. But there are also some HOG staples that are nowhere to be seen. There’s no hint system at all, which wouldn’t be a huge deal if every bee was an actual one, but some are disguised as jewelry, patterns, tattoos, etc. So the last stretch can feel oddly tricky compared to the rest. Also, the main menu counter confuses me: I’m sitting at 996/1000, but I’m missing 8 bees according to the different levels? Math is doing its own thing here. Add to that no brightness setting (which is rough with how intense the visuals can be) and no achievements at all, which would’ve helped track progress better, especially with the math shenanigans here. So yeah, it’s a fun, relaxing search with a lot of bees and a friendly setup, but at originally 13$ CAD, it feels a bit high for what’s there (even with the launch discount in). I’d personally keep an eye on it for a bigger sale, or even future updates if hints or achievements ever join the hive. So I recommend the game, but sadly not the current price tag. I don’t write reviews often, usually only when a game really stands out to me. A Thousand Bees absolutely did. TL;DR Mood 5/5 (Lovely!) ◽◽◽◽◽ Challenge 3/5 (I didn’t pick it up for that, but it’s surprisingly tricky in a good way.) ◽◽◽◾◾ Usability 4/5 (Mouse recommended, maybe even required. I’d love an alternative to zooming with the wheel.) ◽◽◽◽◾ Stability 5/5 (Windows version) ◽◽◽◽◽ Details This game is a little work of art. The hand-drawn visuals are beautiful and incredibly atmospheric, and the music fits so well that, for once, I didn’t want to turn it off ;) Everything feels warm, thoughtful, and human-made in the best way. Finding the bees is genuinely fun, and much less repetitive than "searching for hidden objects" might sound. Some of them are cleverly hidden, and tracking them down can be surprisingly tricky, but in a good way. I first tried to rush through some levels a bit like a sport, but then switched to just slowing down and enjoying the mood. I haven’t finished every level yet, but I already wanted to leave a review. There’s also something about the spaces in this game that makes them feel unusually intimate. At times I almost felt like I was intruding, which only made the world feel more alive and lovingly crafted. Since I used to do usability testing for a living, I can’t completely ignore that side of it. A Thousand Bees does pretty well here too: it has accessibility options like larger hit boxes, and, blessedly, separate volume sliders for music and sound. It is very clearly designed around mouse controls, though. A lovely, cozy, atmospheric game that clearly had a lot of care put into it.
Really enjoyed this game! Great variety for challenging-to-find and easy-to-see-right-away bees. Really unique art style as well, I hope the dev makes more like this! Was a nice change from cats (although I do love cats! And there are cats in the game!!).
This game is so beautiful! Both in art style and soundtrack. It provides a place that is just lovely to hang out in. Recommended for all relaxing hidden object game enjoyers out there.
Very calming, beautiful game! It has amazing art style making it great for such hidden object mechanics - it's not so easy to find all the bees, event with Beekeeper mode (check Options), and it's music is very well suited. Great, relaxing game.
Played on Steam Deck. Zero problems. Such a lovely game! The art is absolutely beautiful and has this soothing effect (maybe it’s the palette because I personally love these colours), the music pairs perfectly well, and everything just puts you into a calm+flow state where you just tick off bees one by one. Great chill/cozy experience. I won’t spoil anything but some of the bees are hidden in really creative places. Highly recommend!

There is no more cozier game than this one. Vibrant, colorful and full of life! Every level is a work of art! The hand drawn and painted pictures are a sight for sore eyes and make every level vibrant, fresh and unique. Plenty of levels to explore and find all the cute bees (including some hidden ones and secret levels!) and now there’s even achievements to collect. This game came as a surprise and it delivered on the genre it belongs to. The soundtrack is soothing and relaxing. For the lovers of these kind of games, pick this up and get lost in it. It is worth your time!
Really chill and fun game. The mode where the bees don't disappear is really challanging, though. You don't need to get it perfect to unlock a new level, but who doesn't want to get it perfect?
A cozy game with lovely illustrations, nice, relaxing background music and fitting sound effects. I also really like the effect where the bees you’ve clicked on pop away. I want to find them all. :D
