A Mage Reborn

It's a nah for me. This should have either been a complete story, or a longer first book. Where the story ends in terms of pacing feels like a middle - no matter what choices you make, you arrive at the same point. The first book in the series should(!) have a resolution, even in the non-interactive genre. And if you compel a reader to make all of the many choices - then you should really repay them with something. There is no hook for me either, nothing that makes me wonder what happens next. I think it's due to how awkwardly the romance is paced. It doesn't read like a flow of a growing affection but like a series of jump-cuts. The way it was introduced seemed very sudden, at least during my playthrough. I was sure that the characters were supposed to be platonic friends, because I didn't notice any build-up until I suddenly got an option to kiss one of them. Some drama happened; then, suddenly, there is an option to profess your love to the person. It also states that you've known the person for a few years, and that you had some sweet memories with them. Great, I guess. But it does nothing to me as a reader. So when the drama happens in the end, I'm thinking, "Ok, so what?" It's a shame, because the story beats are engaging. There is some decent tension and drama. If only it were longer and ended at a different spot to give us some hook; if only more time was spent on the characters rather than on some random Baron and his village...
