Really fun and deep Survival RPG
Very similar to Sunless Seas- I love it!
I opened this game and then proceeded to spend my entire weekend on it. Two of my crew members are fighting over obscure occult philosophical points, more than one is probably a murderer, and another is having me go all over the world for body modifications. This is a strange and wondrous journey. Fans of the Sunless games will enjoy this game immensely. I understand that one of the writers was poached to write for Sunless Skies, and it shows. The writing for both is top notch, filled with interesting characters and a jam-packed world of cosmic horror. The game plays the way opening a curio cabinet feels. I think an advantage this game has over the Sunless games is that it almost universally rewards you for interacting with things and being curious, so long as you're willing to risk a smidge of sanity if things go wrong. While there are a few quests that can go horribly, I would say they're fewer and further between. This is great, because the joy of a text-based adventure is being curious about and interacting with the world; anything that penalizes you too harshly for doing so ends up making the game less fun. I'd say this game's struck the balance between rewarding curiosity while keeping stakes interesting. The one downside is that the overworld between points of interest is pretty sparse artistically. All of the "rooms" more or less look the same, with small changes for flavor depending on what region you're in. If you find this relaxing, you won't mind, but I think most players are likely to find it repetitive. Nonetheless, the writing in-port makes up for the slog between ports absolutely worthwhile. And of course, I hear Cheat Engine exists if you really want to zoom between ports.

No*
The writing is good, everything else is hit or miss, mostly miss for me. There is interesting stuff, but buried under "meh" gameplay; the worst being traversing the House, which is very repetitive. As far as I am aware the first 15 minutes is representative of a large portion of the experience, hence the low play time. I could see some enjoying this, but unlike Sunless Sea/Skies (games very similar to this), there is not much here OTHER than the writing.
I start the game, I'm instantly drown under mass of texts. I start reading but more keeps popping nonstop. I did not have the time to take a first step that suddenly everything is pitch black. Then I'm dead. What a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ game.
Why have I never reviewed this???? It's crazy how many of the games that I thought were the most brilliant, I forget to review. Sorry about that. Anyway, this game oozes the spirit of Lovecraft in a way that few people could ever dream of. It isn't trying to copy a lovecraft story or merely take the aesthetics, it is like the essence of distilled cosmic horror in a unique setting with brilliant writing. The combat isn't the greatest though (and not something you should even attempt for many hours). Unique and just great.
I was intrigued enough to try to figure out the unintuitive gameplay despite the mediocre tutorials, but the game is also kind of glitchy, Seems like an interesting concept, but needs better execution.
Has some rough edges and failed design ideas, but it's a decent trading game, great exploration game and fantastic lore binging/atmospheric game.
