A Hat in Time

A Hat in Time is absolutely amazing. The art style is superb. The story is superb. The music is superb. If you enjoy 3d Mario games, I would highly recommend this game to you.

If you like 3D Mario games, you'll like A Hat in Time. It's a perfect tribute and it really captures the essence of games like Sunshine and Galaxy, while adding its own personality and charm. Sure, the load times are a bit extreme. And the camera can be frustrating to deal with, but you can change how it acts in the settings - and I highly recommend doing so - but on the plus side the game is pretty forgiving on platforming challenges to make up for it. Still, the positives far outweigh the flaws. Over all, a great time.

A Hat in Time offers a very well rounded 3d jump and run experience similar to Mario 64, as each world offers different missions and gimmicks, charming characters, plenty of collectibles and simple yet fun gameplay. World 3 in particular is definitely the highlight of the game when it comes to characters and levels. you get everything from exploring the bottom of a haunted well and delivering packages to ghosts, to exploring a horrific mansion and fighting a haunted porta potti. It also features the game's most popular character, and their popularity certainly does not come from nowhere. World 4 is relatively lackluster in comparison. I don't know why, but i never warmed up to its open world formula. Exploring the different regions is fun and all, but something about it never quite clicked for me, but i can't put my finger on what exactly i dislike about it. Definitely my least favourite world to revisit. The game is also pretty short. There's four worlds and one final level that serves as a final "world", making for a brief but very replayable experience. If you know what you are doing, then a run through the game will take around 2 - 3 hours, so this game works well with speedruns and challenges. I am mixed on the DLCs, however. Nyakuza Metro adds another open world level, and i never bothered to finish it. It's not bad and exploring the metro is fun, but i could never get through it without dropping it halfway through. Probably an issue on my part though. Seal the Deal adds another world that is...alright. It only has about three or four missions, and they alright for what they are. It is pretty short though, and the whole thing will only take about thirty minutes. The death wishes are perfect for anyone who wants more of a challenge from the game, as they have plenty of trials with optional goals for each world, and they can get absurdly brutal. I definitely recommend them to anyone who wanted more of a challenge from this game. 8/10, an incredibly charming and well rounded experience that i can recommend to anyone who likes platformers.
