A Glider's journey is a short, minimalist, yet very challenging flight game. The goal is simple: Glide to the next landing zone and regain forward momentum along the way by collecting boosts.

This game reminds me a lot of 'Race the sun'. While different in many aspects, it borrows (somewhat) the visuals and audio. It also has that strange "it's relaxing yet very, very challenging" vibe to it. While having very simple controls (left, right, up, down), it's very easy to crash or miss a checkpoint, which resets you to the start of the level. And...I'm very willing to admit I'm terrible, but even on 'very easy' finishing a level is difficult. It's fun to retry (and retry...and retry), but if you're playing this to complete this: keep in mind that levels are fairly long and there are no checkpoints in between. That said: thumbs up for this one. Easily. :-) (final note: played this through proton: was flawless)
Die Steuerung macht das Spiel unglaublich schwer, dabei könnte es so einfach sein.

Firstly, this isn't playable with a mouse/keyboard. the nose is constantly dipping, meaning you constantly have to move the nose up. Which for mouse means moving it up constantly, and therefore bringing it top to bottom repeatedly. Move it even slightly to the side on any of those runs and you're screwed, plane crashed. Even on controller, the controls are just not great. fiddle with settings all you want, turning feels terrible. And pray that you don't actually get good, because you're punished with glider shaking if you get going fast. Very Easy makes you not worry about gravity or shaking, but that doesn't help when you're going through massive series of corkscrews and can't feel in control. It's advertised as relaxing, in reality it's anything but. It prides itself on only using one button. So did Balan Wonderworld, turns out we started putting multiple buttons on controllers for a reason. Simple gives the player less to learn, but it also leaves nowhere to hide This was apparently a small passion project, so jank and odd design decision are to be expected. In this case I feel they did good on modelling and music, but the controls leave something to be desired. I hope the review doesn't discourage future endeavors, but I cannot recommend.

Not sure if I would pay the full price for this (I got this as part of a humble bundle). HOWEVER This game has given me a 2 valuable things so I overall recommend it. One is that sometimes you get this sense of moment to moment immersion and calm that I only remember feeling in real life (for example, when enjoying the clouds on a nice day). The second is an immense feeling of achievement after completing level 14. Level 14 will make you cry in frustration. There are 3 fairly difficult parts of the course: the top silo windows, the windmills (sometimes rng just screws you over depending on the windmill blade positioning), and a row of concrete rectangular windows. If you make it past those 3, you get hit by the game's hardest section. You have to dive into a silo, corkscrew while still diving to the right, level out, hit a bullet time buff, pull up like your life depends on it to exit out of the top of a connected silo. On that note, the frustration of lv 14 almost made me give up. I'm pretty sure I spent 3 out of my 5 hours there. So if there was one thing I wish was implemented in this game is an instant manually made checkpoint system (like in LOVE: kuso) where you can practice the sections of the levels without having to redo the whole thing. If you do get this game remember to enjoy the moments and not focus on "completing" the game.
To preface, I recommend playing this on Easy and my experience comes from playing on Normal with a controller. I loved this game for the majority of it. The first half of the game was challenging, but in a way that felt like it was helping me learn how to control the glider and get better at playing it. The second half, around the ice level, is where things ramp up to a truly annoying level. To summarize my biggest gripe with the game: IT HAS NO CHECKPOINTS. The game demands perfection out of you through rather long levels, but because there are no checkpoints a level can open up with an easy, minute-long segment then slam you with a roadblock of a challenge. For me this was the loops in the ice level that I couldn't practice because of the aforementioned minute-long easy section. If the game feels unfair on Normal difficulty, I feel like allowing players to have checkpoints would be nice. I switched the difficulty down because honestly the levels are very pretty and the music is relaxing. I feel like this is a great meditative game on easier difficulties. But if you like trial-and-error difficulty and long gauntlets where the smallest mistake means having to start over from the beginning, Normal and Hard should provide that for you easily.
This game is most definitely not for everyone, and is sure as hell ain't relaxing at times (if you're playing on anything but "very easy").. That being said, if you're looking for PilotWings-esque, "fly-through-hoops" style game, this is the perfect one to get into. The levels are pretty good, and you get into the flying physics after a while. The second to last level can eat my ass, though. Overall, a solid 6.5/10.
Truly beautiful gliding game with a moving soundtrack. However, I will echo what JDBB said in that the game feels like it should not have rings at all or only a start, two middle checkpoints, and an end ring. The first level in particular was frustrating and many times I wished I could glide through the air weaving around the trees and end up at the final checkpoint rather than ensure that I went through each ring. If you are frustrated with the game, please continue for at least another half hour because the third and fourth levels are so beautiful and fun to play that the initial frustration is worth it. Skimming the tops of the fields of grass is the most satisfying flying feeling I've had. The developer is responsive to questions and kind enough to donate to the YogsCast Jingle Jam. I highly recommend trying it out for around 30 minutes.
A nice little game that can range from nice and relaxing to frustrating but rewarding. The levels are gorgeous, the music is amazing, and I love the low-poly aesthetic! The hard difficulty is very challenging but incredibly rewarding when you complete a level, and if that isn't your cup of tea, then there are a few lower difficulties to try (useful for learning the level 😅) While completing all the levels, I didn't encounter any performance issues.
