I love these games! I haven't replayed them fully yet, but just booting them up and cruising thru the first levels of each gave me an intense nostalgia. These are probably some of the very first "indie" games I ever played (mid-late 2000's?). The idea that "one person can make a game?!" shattered my mind and, being honest (and sappy!), changed the trajectory of my life. They always struck me as mini-Genesis offbeat platformers. But the spirit of the Lucas graphic adventure games (and the AGS community, Bernie's made several of those too!) kinda permeates everything, the well-written and goofy dialogue, the way characters bob up and down while talking...the music! This is a great package and I hope there are more collections like this! The simplicity is an absolute strength in these, I'm not sure what's been changed, but even this cleaned up presentation is worth the admission (oh yeah...free! play it!). I hadn't played Treasure Hunter Man, but it seems awesome to and very "of a piece" with the first 2 Kitty games! Thanks for the games, Bernie!

Simple but smart... Very nice game
A fun collection of platform games.
It's nice to have these games available for more people to play, this is an incredibly obscure franchise and it makes me sad to know that I'm one of the few unabashed fans of it. The one big problem with the versions available on both Steam and itch.io is that these games stutter to hell and back when played in fullscreen, due to them not using the exclusive fullscreen mode like their original versions, but rather the maximized windowed fullscreen, something that Multimedia Fusion games don't work with too well. So, for anyone who's planning on playing these games, just keep them windowed instead of fullscreen. These games are great, I still recommend them. Darkside Adventures especially, as I grew up playing that game and it's had a major impact on me. The first game may have aged a bit with its slippery controls that don't mesh well with the precision platforming it requires from the player, but it's still a short and sweet game with a cute soundtrack. The second game is iconic, with a godlike soundtrack and immaculate boss design. I 100%'d the game twice by now, once in the original, and now again in the Steam version. Aurora Road can go screw itself though, that level is harder than even Distortion X. I finished Treasure Hunter Man 1. It was pretty fun, shame that I can't seem to find the one missing treasure to 100% it. After beating Treasure Hunter Man 2, I can say that this game still holds up on its own merits, if anything because it was a pretty interesting evolution of earlier games you've made, and with how many elements from it would be carried over to future titles like A Game With a Kitty 3. Unlike the previous two games present in this package, this one truly feels like a 16-bit game rather than an 8-bit one. Now knowing that this version borrows 75% of its soundtrack from the updated OST of the second game, I will die on the hill of saying that the new tracks exclusive to this one elevate it above the sequel's, with not a single dull or overutilized track (looking at you, abandoned town/generic dungeon theme from 2). Unfortunately, the music that's exclusive to this updated version is criminally underutilized. Also, it's still the same game as the original release at the end of the day, warts and all, which means that the underbaked ending areas, lack of interesting puzzles and the little reason to explore beyond getting macguffins is still present in here; the package just sounds nicer and has better controls. Overall, a nice collection of three great games marred by the limitations of the software they were created in and some spaghetti code that broke for one reason or another when being updated.

Searching for the term "platformer" on Steam gives you over 17,000 results... there's thousands and thousands of garbage tier platformers infesting Steam. "A Game with a Kitty 1 & Darkside Adventures" fits right into that category of retro 2D shovelware glutting the Steam store. Only a tiny number of those are any good, and this isn't one of them. This very poorly made platformer fails to meet even basic standards for what PC gamers expect... as a game, well, it's awful, a kind of metroidvania-lite with a cat pixelblob, some badly written text everywhere, no optimisation, clunky controls, janky gameplay... this is a disaster. It looks like something the 1990's rejected. In the modern era of high quality bleeding edge PC gaming, these kinds of flat, lazy, lackluster platformers just don't cut it. Platforming is a dead genre for a reason. Even though this is "free", it failed to attract any interest for gamers here on Steam Direct for obvious reasons. Here's another case where Itch failed. They have like, ONE job... to act as containment to prevent poorly made amateur shovelware from leaking out onto platforms where gamers might see them and lose hope in the gaming industry. But here we are. The participation trophies and hi-5's from the group hug weren't enough and some of the amateur drivel they're supposed to protect us from got out. This game fails on the visuals because of the use of incredibly lazy, ugly pixelcrap. The developer would probably argue this is a "deliberate artistic choice" but we all know it's because the developer was incapable of producing anything better. The game looks very poor compared to professionally developed games. Whether the developer lacked the skill or the budget for modern visuals is irrelevant, this looks bad because of that developer decision. Gaming is a visual medium, and it's a disservice to gamers when developers don't bother doing their jobs and creating contemporary, high quality visuals. Games like Undertale and Stardew Valley are rare exceptions that succeeded in spite of their awful graphics. Pixelcrap is never really okay, and there's no excuse for games that look this bad. This wasn't designed for typical widescreen monitors, it's locked to a deprecated 4:3 aspect ratio. It won't look right on modern PCs as a result of this bizarre decision to publish a PC game that doesn't conform to the standard display form factors. Let's look at the price and what kind of value this actually offers gamers. This is "free" enough (not every "free" game in the "free" section is truly free, there's usually some hidden price tag), at least you won't be expected to spend any more money after you download this, but just because something is free doesn't mean it's good, and the cost of a game is more than just financial, your time is valuable too. Despite having no up-front cost, this failed to appeal to the 130 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB shows this peaked at only 3 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Since free games don't contribute to your game collector badge and other profile stuff, is this a worthwhile addition to your Steam library? No way. This is just impossible to recommend to serious PC gamers. I didn't spend any money on this, but I still feel like I got scammed.
