"2D Dawg 2" is not a game, it's an e-book that's been dumped on Steam masquerading as a game. As a visual/interactive novel, this doesn't feature any notable gameplay, it's just a lot of clicking through badly written dialogue that would never have been accepted or published in print, which poses the question, "How did something this badly written end up on Steam?". When someone hoping to become an author is unable to get published in print, they spend $100 and dump their high school fan-fiction onto Steam, under the guise of a game. This garbage e-book tests the very limits of cringe... and breaks them. The only thing more cringey than a furry fan-fiction on Steam is a Russian furry fan-fiction on Steam. Who knew Russia had furries... well, we all know now. So yeah, this is a high school anime club dropout furry fan-fiction about the authors imaginary Russian furry girlfriend. The cringe is weaponised... and the sheer number of fake reviews is boggling. Visual novels/e-books are tedious at best... imagine the best novel you ever read, be that Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy or 2001: A Space Odyssey or Twilight (if you have terrible taste in literature), but then translate that to a format where the words dribble out and you have to click your mouse every time you wanted to read the next sentence, instead of just turning the pages. You'd think it was garbage. Now imagine that experience, but with much worse writing (because if these guys could write professionally, they'd be published authors and this would be on shelves in bookstores, and they wouldn't have to pay Valve $100 to self-publish this on Steam), and you have your average Steam e-book. One of the chief problems with failed authors polluting Steam with non-game E-books is that E-books can easily just be presented in a web browser... there's no justification for charging money on Steam for what might as well be a webpage. We don't spend thousands on buying a gaming rig to spend money on Steam for something Chrome or Firefox could do. Despite having no up-front cost, this failed to appeal to the 130 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the e-book peaked at just a dozen or so concurrent readers, and now there's basically nobody reading it. Even though it's free. This is a dismal public reception, but it's easy to see why gamers rejected it. While this E-book is "free", you can get better quality, professionally written books and comics for free online (from places like Project Gutenberg) or from public libraries. Steam isn't a comic book store, neither is it Netflix, it's for games. Your gaming rig is not a Kindle. It's impossible for me to recommend things to PC gamers that aren't really games. It's important to note that, despite this being such a low quality product, there's a number of positive reviews that all appeared immediately after the game launched, from suspiciously inactive Steam accounts that have reviewed almost no other games apart from this. Take the review score of this game with a grain of salt.
**2D Dawg 2 Review: A Charming Retro Adventure** Released by PixelPaw Studios, **2D Dawg 2** is the delightful sequel to the quirky platformer that captured the hearts of fans everywhere. Building upon its predecessor’s foundation, this game follows our lovable canine hero, Dawg, as he embarks on another vibrant adventure filled with colorful worlds, wacky enemies, and engaging puzzles. **Gameplay: 8.5/10** The gameplay of **2D Dawg 2** offers a nostalgic return to classic platforming mechanics while introducing new elements that keep things fresh. Players control Dawg as he runs, jumps, and barks his way through beautifully rendered 2D environments, from sun-soaked beaches to treacherous mountain peaks. The controls are tight and responsive, allowing for precision platforming that feels satisfying. A notable addition to the gameplay is the new “bark mechanic,” which allows Dawg to interact with the environment—whether it’s startling enemies, activating switches, or charming quirky NPCs who provide helpful hints. This new feature adds an additional layer of strategy to the typical platforming experience. **Level Design: 9/10** The level design in **2D Dawg 2** is imaginative and varied. Each world presents its own unique challenges and aesthetics, with cleverly hidden secrets waiting to be uncovered. The game encourages exploration with collectibles and power-ups scattered throughout each level, rewarding players who take the time to investigate every nook and cranny. Enemy design is equally whimsical, featuring a cast of hilarious and sometimes absurd foes that require different strategies to defeat. Boss battles offer memorable encounters that test your skills without feeling overly punishing. **Visuals and Art Direction: 9/10** One of the standout aspects of **2D Dawg 2** is its charming art style. The vibrant colors, cartoonish character designs, and playful animations give the game a lively and inviting atmosphere. Each level feels distinct, capturing the essence of its theme with beautifully crafted backgrounds and engaging visual effects. The attention to detail in both character animations and environmental design really helps bring the world of Dawg to life. **Narrative and Humor: 7.5/10** While **2D Dawg 2** does not prioritize a deep narrative, it offers a light-hearted story that adds a layer of charm to the gameplay. Dawg’s quest to save his favorite treats from the clutches of the nefarious Cat Tyrant is filled with humorous dialogue and goofy characters. The writing has a playful tone, appealing to both younger players and nostalgic adults. However, those looking for a complex story may find it lacking in depth. **Conclusion: 8.5/10** **2D Dawg 2** takes the best elements of its predecessor and amplifies them, delivering a delightful platforming experience that is sure to entertain. The combination of engaging gameplay mechanics, imaginative level design, and charming visuals results in a game that is not only fun to play but also a joy to experience. PixelPaw Studios has successfully crafted a sequel that manages to feel fresh while paying homage to retro platformers, making it a must-play for both newcomers and returning fans of the franchise. If you’re ready to join Dawg on this whimsical adventure, grab your controller and prepare to embark on a journey filled with laughter, exploration, and doggone fun!
