2024: Aliens Are Coming

"2024: Aliens Are Coming" is one of those cases where an amateur developer bit off way more they can chew, then after burning $100 on Steam Direct, deciding game development is actually hard to do and thus walked away. What do you do in the game? This is a bunch of 2D retro pixel minigames sandwiched between cringey high-school sci-fi club dropout fan-fiction writing e-book intersituals, none of which are done well. Someone watched a bit too much X-Files, then decided that in 2025, what PC gamers are craving most is 2D pixelcrap minigames. They were wrong; the game failed dismally. The developers abandoned this 7 months ago. It will never be completed. This unfinished game is just polluting Steam and making it harder for gamers to find genuinely, completely made games. This features really godawful pixelcrap "art" instead of real graphics. It's hard to say if this was because the developer didn't have the skill to do the job of creating 3D visuals, or couldn't afford to hire someone who does, but it also doesn't matter. What matters is that this looks much worse than most other games because of that decision, and that's a major deterrent to gamers. Games like Terraria and Stardew Valley succeeded [i]despite[/i] the bad graphics, not because of them. It's free for now, but the developer intends to charge for this through paid DLC if it ever leaves Early Access... but considering the poor public reception, it's likely this will not be one of the 25% of games that ever gets finished and leaves Early Access. Despite having no up-front cost, this failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 2 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? Nope. This isn't worth downloading. There's no financial cost up-front, but you'd still be spending your time and a little hard drive space on a product that's far from the best. There's thousands of better alternatives on Steam.
